Short list of items on the menu, which made it easy to choose. We had fish and chips, and steak and chips. Wow! Generous portions! And tasty too. The wine selection was limited though. (Don't know about the beer selection.) They have a lounge setting...(settees and coffee table) at a corner of the dining room with a great view.More

The Hermitage offer complimentary shuttle service yo the restaurant and back. Due to the peak holiday season it was hard to find a table. The restaurant offers takeaways but do not offer reservations for a table. The food is gastro pub style with generous servings....It is well made but need to offer more vegetarian options. Overall good experience and staff are very helpful and friendly and nice to deal with.More

We stayed in Mt. Cook village for 2 nights and loved the place. There's a couple of restaurants in the village but we went to the Chamois. Reading the reviews, I was slightly apprehensive. However, the food is amazing! Price is reasonable, especially considering the...massive portions you get. We got 2 beef burgers and honestly, it was one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. Looking at everyone else's meal as well, the rest of the menu looked equally great. The staff are really friendly too. I'm not sure why the place has a bad reviews, especially about the staff not serving on time etc. You walk in, sit down, order your food at the bar and they give you a transponder which beeps when your food is ready, you then pick up your food next to the bar....its simple and quick so I don't know why people are moaning about staff not bringing them food when you get it yourself? Anyway, fully recommend The Chamois Bar and Grill. Great food, great staff and a great view!More

This is a beautiful spot to enjoy a beer and a snack! The seats by the window are really lovely. The overall vibe is nice, and the pool table is also a great perk. This is a great option in the park.

I’m not one to write reviews but I do read reviews before going away and given the negative reviews I read on this place I thought I would share my review. After a long day of driving, helicopter flight then hiking Hooker Valley Track, we...checked in to the Hermatige at 5.30 and expected to just have dinner there that night but they were all booked out. We went to Chamois Bar and Grill at 6.15pm on a Saturday night of a long weekend, there were plenty of tables and the view was just stunning! The food was served quickly, large portions and very tasty. The price was pretty standard with what we would pay for a pub meal in Christchurch so I’m not sure why others have complained about the price. We were happy with our meal, the service and atmosphere!More

We stayed at the Mount Cook Lodge and motel so this pub was very handy for our first night’s dinner. I saw the reviews and were bracing ourselves but this turned out to be quite good. A 350g steak was certainly worth the price it...was charged for. And the fish and chips was ginormous and a bargain. It was tasty too. The best deal was the kids meal that came with a drink and a Deep South mini tub ice cream. It was cheaper than the old mountaineers cafe but came with drink and dessert, and my daughter said this one tasted better. We also got the apple crumble which was good. So overall this is a good place for dinner, reasonably priced, and have one of the best views. Will happily come backMore

Pretty average cafeteria type venue ideal for noisy people who just want to let their kids run riot. Poor choice of draft beer when we visited with three types room out ! Guy behind bar eventually poured us a drink and as he was pouring...I asked is that the right beer, oh he said no the one you ordered has just run out so thought you might like a Speights!!! durr Didnt bother staying to eat at this stage so cannot comment on food.More
