We paid $57 for two courses I had a starter and main my wife main and dessert all the dishes were great I had venison for my main and my wife the duck she was impressed with her meal and raved about the dessert. I...would happily pay that much anywhere for the food and service we got. You can pay for all 3 courses believe it was $77 but it would have been to much for us. Great meal, great priceMore

Never expected fine dining, but did expect at least edible food served in a reasonable time frame. Took near on 2 hours for the first of the inedible course to come out. Hotel staff unapologetic.

Little menu choice, very lazy desert options. Salmon plate had lukewarm salmon and polenta cake which spoilt the meal. Again, very friendly service.

We were scratching our heads about where to eat for our one night at Mt Cook. The reviews for the Panorama were mixed but we decided to visit anyway. We were pleased we did. The Panorama has been closed by management during the international travel...shutdown and instead the Alpine restaurant offers 2 or 3 course set course options. The views are to die for and we were pleased with our 5:30 booking (booking highly recommended as we were surprised about how booked up it was). The service was pleasant, professional but not massively attentive. Not that this bothered us being in such a nice spot. The food was delicious. We had low expectations and are quite critical/fussy. There was quite good variety for a set menu. About 4ish options for each our appetisers and mains. The pricing was better than we expected too for the location. $50ish per person for 2 courses. What we would expect to pay at home in Wellington. We highly recommend! Also we weren’t staying at the Hermitage and it wasn’t a problem visiting for dinner.More

We did not stay at the Hermitage as the rooms seemed a bit pricey but we came to the Panorama Room for dinner one evening. It had been a beautiful clear day and from our table we were able to watch the sun go down...slowly on Mount Cook. The meal itself was the best we had on our stay in the South Island – and we had many very nice dinners. Plenty of choice on the menu and everything prepared to perfection. The service too was excellent – friendly and attentive. We had originally thought that the restaurant might just rely on the view and offer nothing special by way of food and service. We could not have been more wrong!More

Unlike some of the other reviewers we would be unable to recommend this restaurant. The menu is potentially good, the views are excellent, but the staff are totally inattentive and not up to the standard that you would expect at the prices charged We had...to wait a few minutes to be greeted - let alone seated - despite the fact that we had a reservation and the restaurant was 2/3 empty. The staff are either badly trained or badly managed. When they were not talking to the manager behind the till, they avoided eye contact making it difficult to even get a water glass refilled. The wine arrived after the food despite being ordered well in advance, and the the Duck was a very poor cut and was predominantly gristle. It then took 20 mins to be replaced and the meal was effectively ruined. Looking at the reviews the restaurant clearly does a good job some days so I cannot understand why they were so poor on this occasionMore

Panorama Restaurant is, as the name suggests, located in a curved room with a great panorama view of Mount Cook. But even without the view, this restaurant more than makes up for the price with its top-quality cuisine and excellent service. Our server, Mr Perfect,...lived up to his name with his friendly demeanour and absolutely attentive service. A truly enjoyable dining experience!More

Nice restaurant within the hotel. Curved shaped room with lots of windows and views of the mountains - spectacular. Really good food, served in fine dining style.

We booked a table for our anniversary and were very warmly welcomed by staff on arrival. We were shown to the best table in the house, with an absolutely magnificent view of Aoraki as the sun set. Our waiter, Perfect, was as his name states,...perfect. Attentive, relaxed and cheerful, but never imposing. The meal was very pleasant, well prepared and tasteful. I know some reviewers are a little critical of the restaurant and its prices but, seriously, this is pretty much the only show in town and it's a long way to something else. For us the important thing about NZ restaurants is to have a NZ theme or context. Why try to replicate NYC or London? The balance between good service and being who we are is important, and difficult to manage in remote locations. This worked for us. Thank you to all the staff.More

We made a reservation for the earliest time possible and came 10 minutes early to be able to snag the perfect window seat with a gorgeous view of Mt. Cook and the Mueller Glacier. Our waiter was delightful, funny, friendly and patiently answering all of...our questions. We each had the 3 course menu which was a steal at $65 NZD. We each ordered the same thing; Potato, Leek, and Cream Soup served warm; NZ Venison filet and rib with potato and broccoli rabe, then finishing with the Apple Pie Cheese cake which was a work of art. There was a small scoop of sherbet with caramel brushed on the plate and the cheesecake with a shortbread base, a rounded cheesecake ball with an apple pie filling topped by a creamy lime gelatin. We took our time eating and were never rushed by our waiter. By dessert time the clouds had cleared from Mt. Cook and the sunset painted it a gorgeous shade of orange...Perfect!More
