If you are staying at Mt. Cook, be sure to find this little gem of a restaurant located near the National Park Visitor Center. The coffee and meals are very good and less expensive than at the large Hermitage Hotel at Mt. Cook.

Went here for coffee, snacks and an evening meal over a three day period and kept going back as better than the ‘bus barn’ up at the big hotel on the hill. After a suggestion from the excellent staff (young NZ ladies) we booked a...More

Bless you! Thanks SO much for your great review. It made our day! And there is nothing quite like dinner as the sun sets with it's golden rays on Aoraki. Travel safe.

After trekking the Hooker Valley there is nothing better than dropping into the Old mountaineers cafe for resustinance. Whether that’s food or a couple of beverages you won’t be disappointed at Charlie’s place. The view is outstanding with views right up to Mt Cook and...More

We stayed two nights in the area and ate both evenings at the mountaineer cafe. Both nights we enjoyed the food and the scenery. We are not big sterile hotel people so this was a wonderful alternative.

The building is nice. The Window is big enough that all the guests can see the view of the mountains. But the food is average.

Decent lunch with slightly higher prices, had beef burger set and the organic fried chicken set. Portion was reasonable.

Yes, organic free range chicken, with no chlorine and no awful GM food fed to the chicken is slightly more expensive, but we are delighted with those who supply it and we are so happy we can offer it to our clients.

Grilled salmon with rice, tomato soup, and garlic bread tasted good. We were sit right at the glass window with great view of Mount Cook. Staffs were very friendly with great service.

Acceptable food after a full day of hiking. Mt Cook does not have a lot of dining choices. This one gets the job done. Alcohol was very expensive compared to the rest of the country.

Alcohol is the same price, unless you purchase at a supermarket and drink it at home. Good to know that you enjoyed the food.

There is not much choice of where to eat in Cook Village, we ate here on 2 nights & had excellent home cooked meals. Portions are large. Staff were friendly and service was good.More

Delighted that you get us, that you loved the food and could taste the flavour. We are about home cooked meals with flavour and as much in the way of organics as possible. We only offer organic chicken now. That way we are supporting the...More

It is the only building in the village that was open by Edmond Hillary and it has many original climbing implements. The service was friendly and the food good. A lovely fire kept you warm while you ate
