Great cafe and bar in Methvan NZ

What a great cafe and bar. My wife and I visited about three years ago and decided to visit the area today on out motorbike. The cafe decor and outdoor eating has added an extra dimension to the place, three years ago we found the eatery a very special place, and our visit today did not disappoint. The food was cooked to perfection and served to us at the table with a great smile. The chef and his wife we found out own and work at the cafe, what a great team. The menu catered for most tastes and the portions were generous. If I hadn’t had to drive home I would have sampled one or two of the craft beers on offer. We will certainly return in the near future.

Excellent lunch/breakfast selection

There were five of us and the meals we all what we hoped. The scrambled eggs and bacon on ciabatta were exactly what I liked. I will need to travel back to Methven again to try other things on the Abrabica menu. The wine was good and the Iced Chocolate I had for afters. Good atmosphere and attentive host.

An excellent vegetarian wrap. Enough for 2. Delicious. Partner had infused venison deluxe burger. Good too. Well priced food,very fresh with the bonus of craft beers if you like. Would definitely visit again. Thanks

We were so disappointed with this place. I think it must have changed hands in the last 5 years as I never remember it being this bad. I asked for a half eggs Benedict as I just can’t eat two eggs and all that comes with it. The very young and not very confident waitress went to ask the check. I watched her ask him, he never missed a bit - no, can’t do that. No explanation given. We should’ve left then. But instead we ordered the bacon and eggs. You get no choice with the eggs - got to be fried (it does state that on the menu but how hard could it be to offer a choice?). No choice either about the bread - white out of a supermarket packet. The bacon was burnt, we couldn’t really eat it. The menu has 4 I think it is, breakfast items. Could really do with a muesli or granola and fruit option. We will not be back.

Hello recent reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to review our establishment on Tripdavisor. We are very disappointed to hear about your negative experience at the cafe after 9 years of all positive reviews and the same owners we are slightly concerned about your visit. The ownership has not changed but we have changed few things due to Covid 19. We have had to change our menu to a board style option, so menu has cut down in half to fit in. We have lost over 30pax of capacity due to social distancing rules. Customers can only use the the restaurant for dining purposes and with a time limit for every table, again government rules. We have lost 3 staff members. Suppliers have changed their operations. We have run with the level 2 menu since the lockdown because of the costs, we had to shut down without any income still had to pay rent, electricity, phone, internet bills so we couldn't still get back to normal. Our current menu has eggs three ways bacon & eggs (fried) Signature Scrambled Eggs and our Eggs Benedict (poached) unfortunately as we make the Hollandaise ourselves (not coming from a packet) we only have enough for full prices portions for the set days. It is our most selling item. If we serve half portions we have to say no to a customer who is willing to have a full portion. Some customers only want to pay half the price if they have half portions but unfortunately it does not work like that as the overhead cost is the same for both. We have had problems explaining to them so we have made a decision not to encourage half portions. These are the two reasons you couldn't have half portion of eggs Benedict. Since we can't fit everything in a board menu we have put Muesli and Granola both into the cabinet as more options. We are sincerely sorry for not having time to explain this to you and for serving bacon which you didn't like if you had let us know when we meal checked your table we would have corrected the mistake then and there. I would be more than happy to discuss further if needed. Thank you for understanding and encouraging our small family operated business and hospitality industry. Really appreciate it. Thank you

Venison dinner

looking for somewhere to eat and happened upon this place. Small menu but the food was outstanding. I had the venison burger and my wife the venison burger salad. We both agreed the meals were truly delicious. The burgers were crafted in house and were fantastic. The Sri Lankan chef and his UK wife were very good company. Really recommend you give it a try !

There wasn’t much open in Methven on a Sunday but Arabica was so we just stopped for a pot of tea and a cappuccino. Really enjoyed my coffee and the staff were very chatty and friendly.

A very clean and spacious café. They make a decent coffee in a good sized cup. Café style food choices might be a bit limited but this is a small town and they have a reasonable menu to pick something from. Friendly smiling staff and clean toilets available on site. Will come here again next time.

Accommodated our large group well. Excellent appetizer plate and excellent fish. I did not pay the bill, but I did hear that it was quite expensive however- but can't quantify it
