Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I ordered their fried chicken dish. Unfortunately, the chicken was dry, and to my dismay, the mashed potatoes were cold in the middle. When I raised this concern and returned the dish, there was zero apology. The lady in the kitchen appeared uninterested, wearing a...frown that seemed to convey, 'What do you want?' Regrettably, no one suggested a proper resolution until a server finally offered to heat up the dish, albeit without any comment or acknowledgment. The lack of empathy and professionalism was apparent throughout. I believe this establishment requires significant staff training in hospitality, and their kitchen could benefit from a touch of passion in preparing food rather than just focusing on quick service. What surprised me the most was the positive reviews this place has received. In my experience, it fell short of delivering both in terms of service and food quality. I hope they consider reevaluating their approach to ensure a better dining experience for future patronsMore

Very good coffee, the best I‘ve had so far in NZ. Very friendly staff with chilled atmosphere. I had a long black which just hit the spot. Interior design is very hipster-like, which is nice.

Loved the great food & excellent coffee. We stopped on our way to Christchurch for brunch & bc of the queue thought we’d have to wait a while but the drinks and food came out amazingly fast. Five stars to the chef - my halumi...burger was delicious and the kids loved their eggs. My husband had a milkshake called a Kick in The Nuts - double espresso - divine, lol. And the prices were good.More

We just stopped in for a takeaway coffee on the way through, but when I saw the cheese and onion scones, I had to try one of those too (shared it as was big!). The menu looked good and at another time we would have...stopped for food. The coffee was great and the caramel toffee that came with it a welcome surprise (I don't have a particular sweet tooth, but it hit the spot). The scone was great, crunchy outside and soft inside and the staff a pleasure to deal with. We didn't stay long or eat in, but the place had some neat quirky decor and kept me entertained looking around while I waited on the coffee. I can definitely see why the ratings are good with The Running Duck and can certainly recommend stopping in if you are in the area.More

We liked the tasty fried chicken, fresh halloumi salad and great Underground Roasters coffee. Service could have been more on point but it's a cool place to stop and the town is nice too. The 1950s decor is fun and there's a chest of toys,...coloring books and space for kids to play.More

Everything about this place is disappointing. From the food to the service. Paying $19 for a burger that has a bun, $5 bag of coleslaw, chicken and 2 pieces of bacon? I dont think so. No sauce, no tomatoes, no lettuce or even cheese! Not...to mention the Aioli that tastes like it has been watered down. So much potential, but alas i am extremely disappointed. Everything is dirty. It is not hard for staff to wipe down surfaces instead of idly chatting to each other. Be better.More

Delicious fried chicken with mashed potato fries and coleslaw salad. The pork belly burger is a tad hard on the end-bits. Coffee and milkshake were great. Highly recommended. Oh the order tag is Billy goat for us.

Fabulous to see more options on the menu, especially low carb! Love the decor! It's fantastic hence why we return. The food really is average though sorry. Very small milkshakes. Shame it was cheese sauce instead of real cheese on the kumera fries. Service not...great & we were one of three tables there so that's not the reason. Not unreasonable to expect a greeting as you enter & stand at the counter. Appreciate the voucher in the entertainment book!More

Probably the best place in Geraldine to have a good coffee and watch the world go by. Good food, good friendly staff and good service.

Cute cafe and retro decor. We were there during school holidays so it was busy but served quickly. All the food was yummy. And check out the toilet :)

Great spot and funky vibe but not friendly or at all helpful. Coffee too strong and bitter/ over roasted IMHO (as seems to be the norm for NZ)

The eggs Benedict had perfectly cooked eggs. Served in a metal camp plate was off putting. Breakfast menu not as extensive as anticipated (no full breakfast offered), and tables not cleaned between guests. Staff very friendly and service orientated.
