Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Driving into Geraldine about lunchtime and saw sign in driveway saying "All Day Breakfast $13-99". Thought it had to be worth checking out so turned around and went back. "All Day Breakfast" generally seems to mean some or all of Bacon, Eggs, Sausage(s), Baked Beans, Hash Browns, Tomatoes, and Mushrooms. Took some time to find on the menu board, but finally saw the $13-99 which turned out to be for Bacon and Eggs!!! Then found their name for what we thought was advertised outside and it was priced at $26-99. Go figure. Some would argue that breaches the Fair Trading Act and seriously considered lodging a formal complaint with the Commerce Commission. Ordered Blue Cod which was fairish, but have had much, much better numerous times in many other places. Went to Geraldine for a short break to support the local community, but don't think we'll be going back here again during future visits to the town. Sad really.

Driving south as you enter Geraldine nestled amongst beautiful trees is where you will find a cafe and gift shop. Off the road parking with easy access. Local artwork adorns the walls with locally made crafts for sale in the cafe. You will be spoilt for choice with the wide selection of cabinet food baked on the premises. The croissant ham and cheese was delicious along with the Heart and Brew coffee . The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Thank you

Stopped here on the bikes. Cold and wet, needing to warm up. Lunch time stop. Coffee was good, just what I needed. Only a short wait for my cappuccino. Venison pie took a while. For a $6:50 pie it was rather ordinary. Not much flavour. Free WiFi proudly displayed on the door! The WiFi kicked me off after about 30 minutes and I was unable to log in again. I spent $20:00. Would have stayed longer and spent more if the service was good. One staff member was friendly and attentive. The rest surly and unhelpful.

After a 30 minute wait for toasted sandwiches we had to ask where our food was. We were told "they've been made but just not toasted" whilst I watched the cook taking bread out of the fridge to make them. When they eventually arrived they were dry with old bread and the saddest attempt at a salad I've ever seen (two wafer thin slices of cucumber and 4-5 small bits of shredded carrot). I get the impression this place relies on international tourists as it was nearly deserted and the lack of locals should have warned us off. We won't make the same mistake again.

Went with kids to play Soccer Golf which was good. We decided to have lunch afterwards. Ordered kids meals and burgers and chips for the adults. Chicken burgers arrived and you couldn’t actually tell that the meat was chicken. It was a crumbed patty that looked like it had been heated multiple times, meat was grey and one burnt. I wasn’t brave enough to eat it so ate the burger without it. Not what you expect for a $20 meal. We will be back for Soccer Golf but not for the food.

If I could give them no stars I would. Was waiting just behind my friend to order and rather than asking to take my order next, countless employees kept walking back and forth behind the counter completely ignoring me. They weren’t even busy either. Not only terrible service but was disappointed with the milkshake that I was finally able to order in the end. Do not recommend this place.

Really disappointed and would not recommend. Went in to grab something to eat while on the road. as I am pregnant, asked the lady when the food in the cabinet were made. Being reassured that it was made freshly daily, grabbed a ham, cheese and tomato croissant. When receiving it, the ham was dry and crusty and smelt off, the tomato was extremely sad looking because it had been sitting so long. What a disappointment.

Stopped here for coffee with friends en route south. Ordered Coffee & Vanilla slices. Didn’t look fresh and certainly tasted a day or so old. Hadn’t completely given up on them but thought it important to point out the issue... so politely mentioned it to staff who admitted they were yesterday’s (it was Jan 1) but proceeded to finger the remaining slice we had waited to finish with coffee (that arrived sometime later). Slice was taken away, no replacement offered, no partial refund offered, no explanation and to add insult to injury more of the same ‘old’ slices were loaded into the food cabinet as we left! Not good form folks... plenty of alternate eateries in Geraldine, will do that next time.

Wide variety of food choices both in the cabinet & on the menu. Appreciated being able to have our dog outside! Milkshakes with icecream were not good - not thick at all & not much flavor! Service took AGES but they were busy, food came out quickly though. Love the outside play entertainment for young & old!

We’re from Timaru. Visited this place for breakfast this morning for the first time, the Farm Shop Cafe. Absolute terrible experience. We ignored the warning signs when we came in: waitresses not greeting and not being friendly, the place generally not clean. Most of the noise came from the staff having a yarn behind the counter. Dead fly on our table. Spilled salt/sugar from previous customers on our table. Rude and unfriendly staff with an attitude: we don’t need your service. Food: presentation poor; I can come up with something much better in my kitchen and I’m not a chef. The coffee was great, but spilled marks on cup and saucer - we’re not sure if it is from previously used cups and saucers. Disgusting experience in general. The attitude of what looks like she’s in charge there is typical South African, we cannot be sure from the accent. We’re South Africans of colour. Disgusting service and food and I’m sorry I cannot recommend you to my wide circle of influence. To add fuel to the fire; we were not ask for our vaccine passports, something that I reported to the authorities. I complaint on their Facebook account; no response. I used their email and I got a nasty reply from the owners, Lyn & Peter McColl absolutely defending his staff and accusing me of racism. He only said that the vaccine issue has been addressed (fearing a fine from the authorities), but had only praise for his staff. Dine at this place at your own peril.

Worst coffee ever, don’t bother wasting your money. Until they get a proper barista , don’t bother. Ordered an apple cake that looked great but when it was microwaved, it turned into a soggy mess. Seriously, get your act together and in the gift shop, get rid of all the cheap and nasty made in China souvenirs. Very disappointing. Cute little town though with a lovely caravan park I’d recommend.

This place is well worth a visit. We did, twice. Store has a huge variety of local produce, Cafe served up good cabinet food, coffee was good, and the staff were very efficient. wwWell worth a call.

We had lunch in this place which is both a restaurant and a shop. We had a hamburger and a salmon bagel. The bagel was quite hard and should have been a bit softer. The hamburger was fine. We took the opportunity to shop at the store which offers nice souvenirs from New Zealand.

Have been here many times and never disappointed. Great service in cafe, great affordable product in gift shop next door and in warmer months a bouncy castle for the kids. A real Jewel In Geraldines crown

We stopped for the footgolf (not soccer golf as they call it). We had a really enjoyable game and it was well set up and a great idea, although there was no one on when we went on. We did not go in the cafe side, but had some icecreams and the had lots of frozen gluten free food. The scones were very good.
