Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A bit disappointed, was hoping for something better. Nothing looked very appealing on the menu so I went with the burger which tasted pretty good with all the stuff on it but the meat itself was a frozen patty that could have come from Burger...King, the fries were soft and basically blah. Although pleasant, the wait staff seemed uninterested, I was done with my dinner for over 20 min when I finally got up to get a dessert menu and got the waitress's attention. I ordered the lava cake which took over 30 min for me to get after getting up to go to the bar and asked if they had forgotten about it, when it came it wasn't even warm, plus the whipped cream was from a can. There's a sign that says they're having a hard time finding staff and to be nice to them....I'm all for it!!! But it should go both ways. They were not exactly busy, room for improvement.More

We organised a group of 16 but only 13 turned up. No problem for our hosts. Food was delicious and served quickly. Gorgeous outlook across the Bealey River to the snow covered mountains. Awesome toilets!

We were advised to reserve a table when we were booking accommodation at the Bealey Hotel. The restaurant was beautifully warm (it was mid-June) and the staff were welcoming and extremely friendly. Ok, the meal: for once my wife didn't get food envy because we...both had the same thing. It was sensational and I'll be ordering the same thing next time. My recommendation - get the beef cheeks for a rich, melt-in-your-mouth dish.More

Delicious dinner and great service. The chocolate cake was superb. A great find after a big day of walking. We also sat near a window so enjoyed the view as well. All in all an excellent experience.

We were a tramping club of 26 people who came here for a feast following a week of tramping in Arthurs Pass. This was a big ask for a restaurant with only one cook but we sent a list of our main course choices in...advance and the kitchen coped with impressive efficiency. The restaurant/bar is serious about observing anti-covid precautions - vaccine passports, wearing of masks by staff, etc. There is also a dress code which includes a prohibition on dirty boots, visible butt-cracks and so on. It was a warm, sunny evening and we began with drinks on the terrace with its splendid view of the Bealey River valley. What a sight this must be in winter with the surrounding mountains covered in snow! A good variety of beer to choose from (wine and other drinks too, of course). Portions were generous and everyone was well-satisfied with their choices. All in all, an enjoyable evening and good value.More

I didn't have great expectations so was pleasantly surprised by how great my meals were. I had the pork belly followed by the lava cake one night and then the Bealey burger (which was huge) the next. Standard of food was really good! Loved the...vegetable sides with my pork and the lava cake was magnificent. Prices very reasonable - you might expect to pay a bit more because of the remote location. And great views out the window. A very pleasant surprise. Definitely recommended.More

Got the Ribs and Lamb Cutlets, both were absolutely delicious! Such big meals and a very reasonable price. Definitely worth the 10min drive out of Arthurs Pass for dinner

We stayed 2 nights peak season - Christmas-New Year week in the adjacent backpacker units. The restaurant at the Bealey hotel has improved out of sight with the new management family. Still the timeless views. Young waitress Ella is unflappable. I reckon a flock of...sheep could stampede and this young woman would calmly get them back in the yards. Even though they were so busy, the meals both nights delicious, generous, healthy, and incredible value for money given obvious food transport costs. We had the hoki twice, salmon salad with crunchy noodles, and the enormous Wednesday steak special which was only $20. We met people who came up from Castle Hill village just to eat here. We would stay here again to eat here again.More

My husband and I stayed across the road from The Crafty Moa. Having been on a two week road trip through the South Island and not really wanting to drive after getting settled in the Airbnb, we decided to have dinner here. I ordered the...venison medallion entree which came with mashed potato and seasonal vegetables...it was very good. Husband ordered the burger and chips...also good and very filling. We started with the soup of the day, “Kumera and silverbeet”...it was okay. Kinda bland. Overall a great experience. As others have mentioned, not a lot of options in Arthur’s Pass.More

As others have mentioned, there isn't much to choose from in Arthur's Pass. The other cafe there doesn't have the best reputation according to reviews on this site, so we decided to give the Crafty Moa a try. And that was a good choice! We...both had the venison burger and it was a very tasty treat! The hotel is a short distance from Arthur's Pass, so from whatever side you come, either the village or Castle Hill, this is the place to stop for a decent feed.More

We stopped here for lunch while on a Canterbury Tour. We split a beer and a burger, both of which we enjoyed. We also liked the ambiance and appreciated the great service. After lunch we explored the outdoors and found breathtaking views everywhere. Be sure...to climb the small hill for the most spectacular view of all!More
