Knowledgeable friendly staff with a great range of books and the best coffee in town. With plenty of nooks and crannies with comfy seats and sofas, also a children's corner.

We cycled through from Welllington on the Rimutaka Track. We got blown about and soaked before finding Loco where we were greeted with warmth and kindness. The coffee was excellent, books such a wide range and the settees a godsend. Thank you.

Walking past, we we're intrigued with locals sitting outside, it had a welcoming atmosphere and we thought why not, so we went in and enjoyed the relaxed setting, and the bonus was the Havana Coffee ! It was a GREAT coffee too, I really enjoyed...it in here relaxing and watching the world go by. Definitely worth popping in,More

We stopped here on our way to the nearby Fell Locomotive Museum and enjoyed a couple of well-concocted Havana Coffee Works flat whites and some generously buttered scones. The service was friendly and helpful, the overall atmosphere warm and welcoming. We enjoyed the laid-back vibe...and the heaps of books all around us. The over-stuffefd seats near the front window were occupied by folks who seemed to be regulars, so we sat in the cozy, quirky back room, near the kids' corner (if you've got young ones in tow, just park them here, where there toys and children's books they'll enjoy). There aren't traditional dining tables here: it's more like a living room or den, with lots of book shelves and stacks. We needed walking directions to the museum, and the hostess gladly obliged. She also was kind enough to check if she had any books for sale about the train we'd be seeing; she didn't, unfortunately, but we were able to buy a couple of them at the museum as she suggested would be the case. This is a small, out-of-the-way place, not fancy, but it has heart. If you're in Featherston for any reason, recommend you give it a try. We'll certainly come again when we walk the old rail route, now a hiking/biking trail.More

The coffee was just great, the place is so welcoming , the lady in charge is lovely, she talked to us and gave us some information about the area. The place is quiet , excellent atmosphere to have a coffee and read a book or...have a chat.More

We popped into Loco Coffee and Books during our trawl of Featherston’s bookshops. Lovely chap behind the till took our coffee and pastry order. The Havana Coffee was tops and my soy chai latte was the best I’ve had anywhere, better than anything I’ve drunk...in Perth, Melbourne, Auckland or Wellington. Very exciting for a non-coffee drinker such as myself. My local friends confirmed later that the exuberant barista was Kate Mead, RNZ broadcaster and mover and shaker behind the Featherston Booktown Week. Lovely time to be had in Loco if you’re passing by.More

Don't think of it as a restaurant - it's a cute hybrid between a secondhand bookshop and a lively place to drop in for a good coffee. The coffee IS good, and the accompanying sweet treats are fresh from the The Baker down the road....This may be because the Loco kitchen is full of books. Featherston is a noted Booktown and the books are for sale at very reasonable prices. Curl up in the window with one of the thousands of books and look intellectual whilst you refuel.More

Spotted the second-hand books for sale and went in. Then my husband spotted the classical music CDs. Lovely owner got chatting and had spent previous 20 years with the Concert Programme on Radio NZ! No idea what the food / coffee is like but the...comfy seats in the window looked welcoming. Will return to try the cafe part next time.More

Great hot, tasty coffee. Great value for money and plenty to look at while you wait( but allow extra time as it's a secondhand bookshop as well) Worth stopping for.

One wintry weekend my wife and I popped in to Loco for a coffee, and also enjoyed a Danish that came from the local baker. We then sat in the lovely big old chairs in the window and browsed the huge range of 2nd hand...books available for purchase, a nice relaxing way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Very casual!More
