Was great when it was over the road at their old location but has noticeably gone down hill since coming into the Royal Hotel. Lots of front of house staff but minimal service passion. Stop at Everest instead, as those guys are sooo much better...and the food is better! Shame, as the Royal Hotel is great, but this cafe/restaurant is sub-par!More

The grew managed our party like heroes- guests weren't seated on time, they kept wandering off...must have been like herding cats. To then serve us a meal that was perfectly cooked is no mean feat- my steak was the best I have ever had. Loved...the cocktails of course! But mostly, with a large party of diverse people- some of us like the glam and luxury side of life, some are more 'pint down at the rsa' people, what stands out for me is they were welcoming and seemed relaxed with us even when the chef was probably tearing his hair out. Thanks everyone, it was a memorable night for all the right reasons.More

We were very pleased to see the renovations on the old Royal. They are very tasteful and in keeping with the period of the building. Really lovely. We were a group of about 10 people. We ordered drinks and chatted away. Our orders were taken....I hadn't realised someone in our party had said we were waiting for others so could our orders wait. Eventually a waiter came and ask if we still wanted to wait. No we said. We then waited for 40 minutes for our lunch orders to arrive. I ordered good ol' comfort food fish and chips. The batter was nice and crisp but that is the only nice thing I can say. The fish hadn't been seasoned it was mushing and 'wet'. The chips were stock standard frozen fries. The limp coleslaw was tasteless and had lost it's crunch. For $26 this was an absolute failure. My friend had ordered the honey soy chicken. The outside of the chicken was very over cooked. The inside was ok but you couldn't separate the outside from the inner so it wasn't at all pleasant. Again the greens on the plate were wilted and not worth eating. There was a garnish of a lotus root round which I was invited to eat but it had been cooked in old oil and was slightly rancid tasting. This too was a waste of $26 The greens and slaw were wilted, I would think because the plates had been put under the lights to keep warm while the rest of the meals were prepared. But cheffing 101 - you dress the plate with salad after the lights not before. I certainly won't head back to the Royal. Wellington prices for very mediocre short order cooking. If you're going to charge those prices then offer something a bit outstanding.More

Absolutely stunning, the ambience of the restaurant made for a romantic and delish evening. The food exceeded any expectations I may have had. A customer service that is a rare in the hospitality industry these days. Highly recommend and will most certainly return ourselves.

$20 for a children's meal consisting of 5 (home made) chicken nuggets, a small serve of overcooked chips, 2 cucumber sticks and a carrot stick is obscene. Adults' food was tasty (except chip scraps) and similarly priced.More

Nice beers to sample as the food took 45 mins to arrive (possibly struggling as Anzac Day evening), HOWEVER! it was very, very good; all 3 main dishes. The steak was the best I have had in a long time. Three different deserts were also...extremely good. The desert wine to go with the cheeseboard rounded out a superb meal for me - the long wait forgotten by very satisfied taste buds. The Restaurent is in an amazing building that has been tastefully refurbished. Well worth visiting.More

Nice food but service lacking Made to feel slightly unwelcome in comparison to the other tables. Wasn’t asked for another drink, just felt a bit unwelcome.

Stopped here for lunch today and was very impressed with food and service. First day for operating out of Royal Hotel and worth a stop to enjoy cool decor, food and service. Ate outside away from busy main road.

Lunch was AMAZING. Everything was so tasty and beautifully presented. I was looking for a vegan meal and Jordan our waiter was so helpful. He went out to the kitchen and arranged for a vegan burger to be especially prepared for me and it was...delicious. The chef even supplied me with the ingredients for the patty so I can make it at home. Such a lovely experience thanks to Jordan.More
