We wanted somewhere to celebrate our wedding anniversary and chose The Olive Branch. It proved to be the right choice. All the food was great, the humus exquisite, and we'd certainly recommend this place.

When we lived in Carterton, we were regulars to Cafe Istanbul, and always had a great meal, and lots of laughs with the staff. The restaurant was closed for a few months for earthquake strengthening, and has re-opened now as The Olive Branch - much...of the old Istanbul menu remains with some new additions now, and lovely new furnishings. Still a gem of a restaurant for guaranteed delicious food!More

We have stopped here frequently for a really good kebab. They are good value, healthy and delicious. Unfortunately when we travelled through Carterton yesterday we saw that the restaurant has closed down. This is very sad.

Just enjoyed a meal in Cafe Istanbul. Turkish food adapted to New Zealand taste. The service was good inspite of a busy Saturday night. Enjoyed being able to have a ‘mini ‘ Iskender which was left room for a dessert.

We have come back again to get a kebab here as they are reliably good. There service is quick and friendly. The kebabs are good and you walk away knowing that you have had a Healthy meal. I find that the small size is enough...to fill you up. You can take away from here but we stopped on a long car trip and it is a nice place to stop, sit down and have a break. Will be back again.More

Sent hubby down to grab some kebabs for an easy Friday night dinner. He got us a lamb kebab each. I asked him for mint sauce and tzatziki on mine, and he texted me to say they didn't have any mint sauce (REALLY? What middle...eastern restaurant does NOT have mint sauce???) and he had to pay an extra dollar for tzatziki. We also ordered some wedges. Thank goodness we had the wedges because the kebab was truly AWFUL. I couldn't eat more than two bites of the dry, cold kebab. The meat did not have a good flavour, and the hummus that was in mine (because there was no mint sauce) tasted heavy and much too thick for my liking. The wedges were good, with plenty of tomato sauce and sour cream. That's what we ate for our dinner. The bin got the kebabs. An expensive waste of our hard earned cash at $44 for two inedible kebabs and some wedges. I can't possibly recommend based on the kebabs and since they were so awful it's unlikely we'll ever go back. What a shame. They could use some tips from the kebab place in Masterton, where they make delicious, hot and tasty food, and where we'll be going next time.More

Service and restaurant was good. Unfortunately we didn't think much of the food. The meat was dry despite it being cooked fresh on the grill and they use wraps for kebabs not pita bread.

We went to Cafe Istanbul for a team dinner with the hockey team my husband is coaching. Great cushion seated area that the team (15yr old boys) and normal tables for the parents. Total approx 20 people. I had Turkish Apple tea, gluten free mezze...dip platter and falafel Iskender with rice. All where delicious. Service was pretty decent and managed a big group quite well and let us split the bill. All enjoyed their food.More

Great food at this place, lovely atmosphere and decor. Would recommend taking a second look as you don't realise the delight until you stick your head in the door.
