Trust House had donated some vouchers in the excellent Riversdale Beach Golf tournament. Big Ups to them for supporting their community. My son and I went in to have a craft beer and a couple of pizzas while watching an hour of cricket on the TV above the bar.The pizzas came out of the big wood-fired oven tasting great. There are excellent outdoor, restaurant and bar dining options. Staff were efficient and friendly.

A group gathered for a post Covid get together. The menu catered for the wide range of tastes and was good quality. The restaurant was full so the waiting staff were under pressure and we missed out on one round of drinks - other than that the service was great. Definitely lately going back soon.

We had tried to get into Farriers the previous week but it was complete booked out. Went this week with our two young grandsons and we all enjoyed our meals. The seafood chowder was really nice (husband) and the fish and chips were very fresh, just a big too big for me, and I am pleased to see they have cut down on the large pile of chips that used to accompany this meal. Also enjoyed the mixed, mainy spinach, salad rather than their usual mesculin salad. The two boys enjoyed their meals and desserts which were good value for money. The main reason for this review is to praise the waitress, Jojo, who was exceptional. Answered our questions and was very attentive to the boys, explaining the meals carefully. She had a smile on her face the whole time and we felt very welcomed.

Good reviews so decided to give it a go coming from USA and being in Masterton for two weeks. Small portions? No way. The squid salad was supposed to be a starter and had to stop half way to ensure i have room for the pizza (called a WHA, or four cheeses for you and me). Decent size for one nicely done in their wood fired oven. My only constructive criticism is that there should be an area (quarter) for each cheese instead of all mixed together cos i could not tell which one I was eating. But still, enjoyable. And the service was great by all the girls. Super attentive and on the ball! I thought it was excellent all the way and i do recommend The Farriers, Masterton NZ.

Where Farriers are now used to be another bar that we visited in the past and have avoided for several years! Had a look on Sunday and saw the place had been thoroughly done up. What a difference! It sells itself as bar with good pub food. Food was great, I had the chicken sous vide that wouldn't have looked out of place in a more upmarket place. Wife had the fish and chips which was good quality fish (terakihi). Good selection of beers and wine. Whole thing was very reasonably priced. Notes about this for guidance (not criticisms). Servings are large so make sure you're hungry! Most tap beers only come as pints which I found a bit odd!

Can’t say bad service as there was virtually no service. Drinks took more then 20 mins to arrive. Flatbread was an inch thick and not cooked through. Steak came on rye bread not sour dough as the menu said. Menu also said medium rare but it was well done and cold along with cold chips. Great taste just cold and overcooked unlike the flatbread or pizza that were both undercooked. We never got asked how the meal was or even if we would like another drink or a dessert. We took the pizza to the kitchen ourselves asking for a takeaway box as nobody came back to our table. There was one waitress working hard and two bar staff having a great chat. People even went to the bar themselves to get a drink as they obviously didn’t get any service either. Is that permitted under current COVID restrictions? How about one waitress per table because that wasn’t happening either. Won’t be back and sadly had great experiences in the past.

Went with a group last week. Ordered the pork belly @ crispy squid Asian salad. Plenty of pork belly pieces, but not crispy and therefore a bit fatty. Only three squid pieces! Asian dressing was ho hum, no punch or freshness that you expect from Asian dressing. Where were the chillies, lemon grass, fish sauce, coriander. However, others in our group were happy with their meals. Service was excellent and impressed that their wine list was predominantly local wines. Had a lovely Johner Estate Riesling. Coffee was good.

We drove past "Farriers "and it looked so inviting with the older Majestic looking buildings. Decided to try it and it didnt disappoint. The three of us totally enjoyed the meals and our waiter was very helpful. It soon filled up with a lot of other people to sample thw delicious food. We will definitely visit again when back in the area.

Disappointed this time - it was Labour day and we paid a 15% surcharge for below average service. Appeared to be understaffed in the kitchen and table service was poor. Our bread as a starter didn't arrive. One couple sharing a dessert were given two spoons but told that the restaurant could not provide a small plate to place some of the shared dessert on - really???? Food was fine - but spoilt be the lack of service.

The Farrier used to be a good spot for dining out. We had not been there for some time, so were quite surprised by the new menu which seemed a great deal shorter than we remembered. Gone were some of my favourites, and my wife noted that most of the 'interesting' pizzas were missing too. It was hard to find anything we wanted to order, aside from standards like fish & chips, and the Big Kiwi Burger. But how often can you eat the same dishes? I have the sneaking suspicion that the menu was changed to make room for vegetarian and vegan dishes. If that is the case, in my view you have dome your old steady customers a great disservice. Do us a favour guys - find some menus from 5 or 10 years ago, and dust them off. Add the vegetarian stuff if you must, but don't do it on my account.

It might have been due to staff limitations under covid. But this was one of the worst dining experiences all four of us have had. All the food served was over cooked - some burnt. The recipes seemed half done. asian sauce on the overdone dried pork was just soy sauce, sauce on mussels sour cream strange taste. The slow cooked lamb was very dry to the point of not being edible and the kumara pattie with it was burnt -it had a black crust. One meal was replaced. The others just chose to walk away. We said something about the quality to the front desk and well as wait staff but just got a 'oh that's a shame' and that was it. None of us would got back here ever again.

Karl (husband), Pam (friend) and I had a week-night meal out at Farriers tonight. It was a cold, bleak night out and on entry to the restaurant we were transported to a warm and cosy, but modern, atmosphere. The meals were excellent, two of us had the marinated mediterranean lamb shoulder which we both really enjoyed and husband had the steak which, he said, was the best steak he had tasted for some time. Cam, our waitress, was attentive, friendly and efficient. A very enjoyable night out.

Thought we would try here this evening as a change To our usual and we weren’t disappointed. Friendly staff, good sized meals and apart from a small wait inbetween drinks and ordering, there were no complaints. Chicken wings were deliciously crunchy with a nice flavoured sauce, the kids pizza is generous and everyone was happy with their meals - steak was apparently a bit tough but cooked well so inside on toughness. Would def visit again *pictured is the squid entree (we werent expecting salad but it was very lovely flavoured) Chicken Wings entree, steak meal with mushroom sauce, choc mousse dessert and pork belly main

I was part of a 12 person booking, but due to a miscommunication we ended up with one extra person. We asked if it was possible to accommodate them, even if they just had a bowl of chips. The two female waitresses instantly refused, but wouldn’t say why, and walked away from us. Two people from our group left, and they had a lovely meal at Chans. They returned after that, by then the restaurant was only half full, so they purchased a drink and sat down with their friends to catch up with them. They weren’t there long before we were all asked to leave, as apparently the kitchen had closed half an hour previously. People from other tables were all quite stunned about this sudden eviction too, it was about 9pm. I understand rules are rules. If you can’t fit an extra chair at the table, or if the kitchen can’t cope with another meal that’s fine, but there is absolutely no need to treat paying customers rudely. We’ve supported the Farrier’s for years, but I’m afraid to say in future we’ll go somewhere more welcoming.

There's a lot of car parking space and the entrance is very easy to find. The staff are lovely and very welcoming. Our food was very yummy and we didn't wait long for our meals either. The inside isn't cramped at all, there is space away from other tables and the music wasn't too loud so you don't feel like you're yelling to other people. Would visit again.
