I was driving from Auckland to Wellington on a wet low cloud kind of day so lunch needed to be had within 30 minutes. At the suggestion of a friend I kept an eye out for the signpost as you enter Turangi from the north....Sure enough, there it was, the sign. I followed the large red arrow and stopped in front of the Tongariro Prison. Oops. The arrow was merely an indication. The Creel is very much a local tackle shop - with a cafe. Turangi is a famous fishing town and a more genuine tackle shop one could not find. My trim latte did not disappoint and my open chicken sandwich was an artwork on a plate. It keeping with its appearance, the sandwich was delicious. While I would have preferred the bread to have been lightly toasted, I was in a hurry so the bread was only slightly soggy. Would I return? In a heartbeat and without hesitation. My lunch took 23 minutes.More

The scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked & presented nicely too, the GF toast was actually toasted not just warm bread like most places. Always great coffee here.

Excellent cafe - coffee was very good. Breakfast also very good with everything freshly cooked and very little wait. Staff were friendly, efficient and courteous.

What a lovely setting - either sit outside or in the window looking at the trunks of some superb redwoods/totara (?). Coffee was good and the plate of three sliders with different fillings (salmon, chicken, beef) and tastes was excellent value at $13. Gets an...A from us...and we mark hard.More

We got a takeaway coffee and some caramel slice. Service was great and coffee was fine but the caramel slice was terrible. It was supposed to be salted caramel but it was inedible as there was way too much salt in it. Almost like they...had got the salt to sugar mixed up. Disappointing end to our time on turangi. Going to stick to the coffee cart from now onMore

Great little café with good coffee and food and an interesting fishing tackle shop too. We made a detour specifically to come back here on our way through Turangi heading south. Worth it!

Three days in a row we have enjoyed the cabinet food, coffee and especially the superb service and interaction with members of the cafe staff. Delightful.
