We just happened upon this cafe. Staying along the road and we were out for a walk. It is delightful. Excellent coffee and yummy Gingerbread, the best I have ever tasted 😁 we will be back later in the week. Can thoroughly recommend.
A short stroll from our favourite accommodation at Kaimanawa, this is a small cafe/come fishing tackle shop with great coffee and good cakes. Totally relaxing and close to the lovely Turangi river walk so a good start or end to a pleasant meander through some...lovely countryside.More
It's a bustling cafe with fabulous food and friendly staff.
This is Maori Language Week and when I ordered coffee in te reo Maori (an official language of Aotearoa NZ of course) I realised that the North American staff member didn't understand, so I offered...to write up a list of some common drinks (coffee, tea, etc) and she seemed keen. I didn't have a printer so I wrote them out and gave them to her, with the appropriate reference. But today I checked and the same wait staff member said the owner had taken it away to look at it. It's already Thursday so it looks like the week will be over without any recognition of our cultural treasure, te reo Maori.More

Thank you for your comments, i did take it away and look at it, as you said we are a very busy cafe . We would not have had time to explain to customers. I am to long in the tooth to learn another language...More
My wife and I decided to go and visit Turangi and go to the Creel Cafe as we have heard such nice things about the actual cafe and its food.
The Cafe certainly lives up to what customers say, the front shop is for trout...anglers gear for fishing and at the rear is the cafe (same building), the food cabinet had different lovely homemade pies, etc all looked yummy, on the menu board there was a selection of soups.
Around the walls are marmalade and pickles you can purchase adding to the cottagey enviroment.More

Finally managed to get along to this place after many visits to the area. I very rarely write reviews, however this was one of the best coffees (flat white) I’ve had in a long time, highly recommend for any coffee snob.
