About
A Members Fishing Club on over looking the Pacific Ocean by the Harbour of Whangamata. We allow non-members during the quite season to come in and enjoy our facilities. We have a beautiful restaurant and new bar that is open everyday of the week.

Recently visited with another 2 couples on a friday nite, place was chocka, great place for a drink and a feed, as us kiwis say. Has great views out estuary to the sea, has great outdoor seating if your lucky enough to have scored a table. Typically good clubbie type bar service and prices. The food menu was good for a club and again reasonably priced, good selections ,not so much for the vegetarians but this is an Oceans sportsclub. Seafood predominately on the menu. Our table had several different dishes , but all were generous in proportion and all hastily devoured generously as well.
Good fresh seafood , also must add very family friendly as well with child portions on the menu and even though there was a queue when we ordered our table of six, only had about a 20-25 minute wait. The place had a family friendly and relaxed vibe with great food and atmosphere. If in Whanga do yourself a favor and eat here if staying a few bites. 🙂

We went with the kids and their kids (7 in all). Being peak time, it was BUSY; however, we found a table quickly and joined the queue to order. The regular beer battered fish & chips is always a popular choice, as the fish is always fresh and tasty. Two of us chose the Pork Ribs and these are huge. Many good choices for the kids and we also had the sundaes for dessert. We could the chef's team at work behind the counter and they earned their keep that night. Once again, a great environment, with a million dollar view of the sea and the harbour, and a great meal - enjoyed by all.

Had to sign in as a club member to get the necessary benefits. The food was good and we didn’t have to wait that long - about 15 minutes for fish and chips / salmon. You had to pay separately for beer so we had a glass of lager each. There was a good atmosphere and the scenery was worth the visit.

The food is very expensive. I ordered chili squid and I got a miserable little serving with aioli and a bit of lemon that vost $18. The others ordered dumplings which were awful - The olives had lumps of raw garlic. Very overpriced .. I've been a member for 20 years and will not be renewing my subscription

What a treat!! James & the team put together an awesome dinning experience for a group of 27 golfing ladies. A three course fixed menu that gave options we all enjoyed. Great atmosphere & great service - even a winning test match by the All Blacks on the big screen. Being the last guests for the night they let us have a boggie ( we brought our own boom box ha ha) & provided a shuttle so none of us had to drive - what more could you ask for. Thanks to the team at the Whangamata Ocean Sports Club!!!!

We loved our visit to the club. The food is so good! Tacos, Asian platter, ribs, kids sliders and the awesome dessert platter, we loved it all. Very busy but food comes quickly, staff are friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back whenever we get to Whangamata.

Just had an amazing meal Mie Kangkung which is a spicy prawn noodle and vegetables. It was excellent. Under the Monday menu for September. Thank you chef.

Just as well we got here early! Arrived just after five and the kitchen opens at 5.30 - had to queue to order food but the line moved quick and it wasn't too much of a wait for food. The small wait was worth it - we ordered platters between the four of us - Asian Platter, Sashimi Platter, Mussels and after seeing all the ribs go past we had to have those too. Definitely nothing to complain about - all was really fresh and yummy. We had to have the creme brulee for dessert - turned out to be espresso creme brulee and it was divine - even those who weren't really into dessert really enjoyed it. We are planning another weekend in Whangamata and this will definitely be our place to have dinner and try some of the other dishes.

Went out as 3 couples. New menu. Three people happy with their meals. . Except the 3 people who ordered the ONLY vegan option. Very oily roast vegesalad. some options could very easily have been adjusted to vegan meals. Hoping this will improve.

Thank you for your review. We do not lean heavily towards vegan food as out of our 6600+ members less than 1% are vegans. Also we are a fishing club which promotes game fishing and other ocean activities which are generally not vegan related. I am glad to hear that 3 people were happy with their meals. its nice to get positive feedback when we do things right.

Special thanks to Dennis for recommendations and the rest of the staff for a warm inviting evening, quiet afternoon watching the sunset, the river passing by and the boats gently playing tug of war against their mooring ropes.varied menu to tempt and tease. alltogether a wonderful idyllic way to pass the day.

We went to the WOSC for a drink on the Friday night and also ordered the ciabatta and condiments for a pre-dinner nibble. The bread was amazing. The food service staff were a pleasure, but sadly the bar staff were very chilly and standoffish. The next night we returned for dinner and sadly were very disappointed. The taco platter was shocking. One small piece of fish and the 'seasoned fresh chicken tenderloins' were overcooked nuggets of saltiness. It was a huge disaster and we left most of our meals, and a half bottle of wine as were so gutted.

What a find! We popped in for the $10 lunch which we had heard from locals was excellent. They weren’t wrong! I had the smoked fishcakes and salad which was fresh and absolutely delicious. Hubby had the steak sandwich with rocket and aioli washed down with a couple of Heinekens. We were going to get a dessert ( menu looked lovely) but we were too full. Bar prices very reasonable too .
The view from the deck was stunning - vistas of the marina, inlet and ocean beach and lots of room for kiddies to run around and explore. We will definitely be going back! Highly recommended 😀

I’ve been to the Whangamata Ocean Sports Club a couple of times now, and the food has been amazing every time. I had the best steak I’ve had in NZ, and the roast was delicious too. The staff are super friendly, and I would definitely recommend a visit if you’re in the area.
