Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I grew up close by and was delighted to find that this place still exists! I have so many memories of dinners here with my family as a child and it was lovely to return for dinner again now many years later. A very special...place well worth a visit and the food is good - very typical Kiwi food, a journey back in time! My granddad's favourite restaurant, he always wanted to come here for his birthday!More

We went here last night with a group of good friends. Everyone enjoyed the food and the environment, inside and outside. Pre-dinner drinks were so restful among the sounds of native birds, surrounded by daisies, wagon wheels and a huge stone. I felt like I’d...stepped into the 17th Century. The best surprise of all was my dog/daughter actually came with us into the restaurant. Finally, New Zealand is catching up with Scandinavia and the wider Europe. A grand evening. All the ladies who served us were professional, attentive and a little bit hilarious. Somebody has a huge passion for fashions of earlier centuries as there’s a whole room displaying a stunning historical setting. There’s a lady in there with a few secrets. A fine evening. Thanks so much. We (including our daughter) will be back!More

This place is fantastic, the service was excellent. The atmosphere and history awesone. I loved the scallops and my partner loved the meaty pizza which was to much for him to eat - the waitress put it in a box and we brought it home....It had so much meat on it. The price was reasonable. We certainly will be going back there, I have mentioned the food and service to other people and overseas visitors who have all gone to Fortaleza and totally agree with us. Thank youMore

The worst pizza I have ever had for $29.90 the base was a store bought one and was doughy and terrible .My husband had a very average “fillet steak” honestly thought he would choke he was chewing so much , and had this weird mushroom...side was meant to be a sauce but was like a tin of cooked mushrooms or something.. Will not be back.More

Very interesting venue and nice staff but what a dreadful pizza. We were assured that the pizzas were made in house but our pepperoni tasted remarkably similar to a frozen supermarket pizza. We left more than half uneaten as it was simply not enjoyable.

We drove past the rather unassuming 'Forta Leza - pizzeria' sign on our way out to Tuapiro Point. My husband has Cypriot heritage and we were immediately drawn to the Greek Taverna style aesthetic of the building, and the sign that looked like it had...come directly from the mediterranean. On our way back past later in the day we decided we would drop in there for pizza - the food reviews were good. We arrived at 5pm on Sat 5 Nov (Guy Fawkes' night) and the place was quiet. We were warmly greeted by the bar and waiting staff, and expressed our admiration at the novelty of the interior of this 120-year-old heritage building (an old dairy factory build c1900). We felt like we'd walked into Texas: the giant slabs of timber acting as bar leaners and tables, the exposed timber beams and stucco walls, knobbly handrails, tall brick fireplace with armchairs, grand staircases, multiple areas and split levels made the place instantly appealing to me. The walls were lined with curiosities and interesting historic pieces. Some may have been put off by the dark and low-ceilinged interior, but we were not. And besides, they make up for it with a beautiful outdoor dining area in the rear courtyard. The ladies told us that there was a museum we could look at - a display of up to 200 year old ladies' dresses, hats, corsets etc, and then upstairs a display of painstakingly-hand-made dolls and a section about the team of women who made them. There was no extra charge to view the collections, and you could easily spend half an hour exploring them. If none of that is your cup of tea, the pizza was lovely. The young server (who only just started that week) did forget to bring our plates, cutlery and condiments but as we were eating pizza and calamari, we didn't overly mind. They were very welcoming, attentive and we had no issue. It didn't take long for locals to start arriving to enjoy their meals shortly after we arrived. Easily the most interesting building that I had seen in many years (I love architecture and old things). If the environment/experience of where you eat is as important as what you are eating, this is the place for you!More

Driving home from a trip away we were lured in to this strange place by the promise of gourmet pizza. What we got was factory mass made garbage at an inflated price. Service was ok but our drinks order was wrong. The decor is interesting...but the food was unbelievably bad.. I cannot understand how this place has even one 5 star rating! False advertising at its finest people. Stop for a drink and a look at all crazy stuff on the walls but for the love of god do not eat anything!More

Well, it's taken me 20 years to actually visit Forta Leza restaurant, although it's been highly recommended by friends. What a time trip! Such a quaint and historic setting. The building is in much of its original state, which brings to mind Transylvania or similar...."The former Kati Kati Co-Op Dairy Company Ltd is today the Forta Leza Restaurant. Today the former factory, built in 1902, is a restaurant owned and operated by the Belcher family who bought it in 1979." And the food is really good! And there's so much to explore. There's even a doll museum! We've added it to our list #favourites.More

We went to this place for the first time for dinner this evening. Our meals were both delicious and the service staff extremely friendly and helpful. Very happy and would not hesitate to return to try other selections from the menu. An old worldly pub...with a history which gives the place atmosphere and unfortunately are becoming few and far between.More
