The Outside Inn is a unique and intimate place to stay, eat, enjoy a coffee or a drink, or just relax in Ubon Ratchathani. Made-from-scratch Mexican food, amazing burgers and other American & Western choices, as well as a full Thai menu. A full drink menu including authentic cocktails, beer, wine, coffee, and other non-alcoholic drinks. A beautiful garden setting with classic Thai and Isaan style and architecture. My Wife Kookkai and myself are regular dinners at The Outside Inn.I was back in Ubon a couple of weeks ago and of course had to go back for our hit of Mexican food. I live part time in Australia at the moment and have been to a few Mexican restaurants. I have to travel to Ubon to have the best. Apart from great Mexican food, they make sensational burgers and my wife always has a couple of Thai dishes and loves them. Great food, lovely staff, cozy surroundings all makes a wonderful night.

Great restaurant for a night out!

Great spot for a lovely Mexican dinner, wide variety on the menu with some American food and of course some great Thai dishes. I came with my family and we enjoyed a great chat with the owner and some amazing food I would recommend the chilli con carne dishes , the chilli fires especially, or a burrito. As a bonus the food is not expensive either!

Great Place for Sleep And Eat

We visited the restaurant at Outside Inn almost weekly. The burgers and Mexican food are the best we've had in Thailand. The owner, is incredibly friendly and helpful. If you are an expat living in Ubon ratchathani, you must stop here! Their holiday events and trivia nights are a great way to get connected with other foreigners in town. Also if you just visit this town, Please stay over night there and try Mexican Foods.

Interesting experience.

Upon arriving we received a very warm welcome. We decided to sit outdoor under the trees which make for a nice courtyard. We ordered the chip and queso. The cheese dip was very good but in my opinion not enough chips to eat the cheese given. Next was the stuffed jalapenos but unfortunately they were not available, hate when that happens, so easy to stock up on the things you have on your menu. Then we ordered the verde burrito, which was good and interesting in taste. I enjoyed the burrito but is not what is served in TexS or in mexico, I guess you can say it has a thai twist to it. From reading the reviews I expected a bit better. Yet I also was not disappointed and will give it another try.

We ate here twice during a recent visit. Between us we sampled the Mexican food, the Thai and the burgers. And we were very happy with all our choices. At first the menu which was full of drink options worried us as it seems a bit eclectic. However the cuisine was excellent and I am sure use the range of drinks would also impress. Staff were very pleasant and it had a nice ambience even when quiet . All in all a great choice

Quiet and clean place on outskirts of Ubon.

Quiet and clean place on outskirts of Ubon. This guesthouse offer clean and spacious rooms for just about 550 Baht. The place has a nice lively outdoor restaurant which is visited by locals, expats and tourists. Offers good local Thai food. Well recommended.

New owner fixed what wasn't broken.

I hadn't been by in quite some time, and always liked coming in for some great scran (and the cordial atmosphere I found there). Brent is gone now, and the new chef is awful, the service has nose-dived, and the new owner is disingenuous as a polly. We won't be back.

I have read the reviews for here but they seemed to be for a top rated restaurant not the accommodation. Ok, to make it balanced. Everything was good but please remember in my reviews I’m fair. The rooms and Outside Inn are quaint but old. No problem but first impression, the toilet wasn’t clean, urine marks from last person. Bathroom not cleaned. A lot of dust in the the room and under the bed. But the bed, the mattress old and very hard, the pillows too fat. Next morning my neck and back sore. Value for money, for price good. Breakfast for price ok. Maybe offer a choice for more baht.

Lovely garden restaurant with a chef on a top level

The chefs' international years of travel culminate in a mix of Mexican, Thai and international food. Wonderful queso with homemade nachos, quesadilla with tofu, stir fried cashew with tofu and jasmine rice, French onion soup as a runaway but also perfect. All wonderfully authentic and finely tuned! The service is the most beautiful thing Thailand has to offer: personal, amiable, cordial... It simply couldn't be better. A hot day ends in this wonderful garden, with great signature drinks, good food, attentive service and good mood from all sides. (It was already our second dinner here within three days...) Very suitable for vegetarians and also vegans. (e.g. vegan, homemade burger.)

South of the Border in Ubon Ratchathani

I guess most people don't come to Isaan to eat Mexican food, but it is an unexpected combination you can try at The Outside Inn. And, all things considered, they do a very good job. It can't be easy to assemble all the fixings for Mexican food in this part of the world. We would recommend the chilli verde burrito (very filling) and the mushrooms wrapped in bacon (quite delicious). Apart from the food, the restaurant has a lovely Isaan-style garden with wooden furniture, lots of pot-plants and greenery and regional accents. Plan on spending at least 700 baht for two people.

Kitchen is open on Sundays at 11:45am! Hi Micheal, We are very sorry if you came by during a time when our kitchen was closed. We are open everyday during lunch and dinner times, so if you were here outside of these times our kitchen would not be open. However, the time listed in your review is not accurate- our kitchen is 100% open "Sunday at 11:45". The kitchen is open 7 days a week, from 11:00-14:30 for lunch, and 17:00 - 21:00 for dinner. Drinks and our reception (we are also the top rated accommodation on TripAdvisor in Ubon) are open everyday from 08:00 - 22:00. So either you are thinking of another restaurant, you mistakenly listed the wrong time in your review, or you for some reason assumed the kitchen was closed when in fact it was open. Regardless, we're sorry that you weren't able to try some of our handcrafted Mexican, American, & Thai cuisine. Mexican and American food is best in Thailand. Thai food is just as good (according to my Thai wife and her family). Largest rooms you'll find short of 5 star hotels. Very friendly and caring stuff that speaks English well. Oh, and cocktails are heavenly! Disclaimer: I liked it so much that I have decided to make owner an offer.
