We stopped into this delightful town of Whakatane and enjoyed the best coffee and full cooked breakfast. The staff were friendly and welcoming and we all loved our sumptuous meals. The coffee was outstanding!

I went back to The Bean in January 2023, after last visiting in July 2020. I had expected the coffee to be just as good. I hadn't expected the owner to remember me from last time. That is astonishing people skills. Coffee is still good,...as are the cheese scones.More
The decaf coffee was very bitter and far too strong and the muffin tasted bland and probably bought in definitely not todays and very fridgey cold.
We have driven past but never stopped, until today, more fools us. A fabulous Cafe with fabulous coffee & food, but even better staff. It is not often we see staff checking & clearing tables and chatting with the customers with a lovely big smile...(behind the masks) Just love ❤ itMore
still old people food but clean fresh and cheapish. do love sitting outside watching the world go by and ocean breeze do a reasonable coffee
Just great coffee. Had to have a second. Nice sunny tables outside. Food standard for a cafe and very edible.
Service great coffee poor. It's been a while since I frequented this cafe where a long black came like a long black. Not burnt filter coffee. Even when another replacement is sent out, it looked & tasted exactly like the poor quality first serve..
We had a simple Egg Muffin breakfast and were absolute thrilled to find that The Bean had plunger coffee available - very unusual and exactly what we were wanting! Freshly ground beans and the coffee was perfect :) The staff were exceptionally helpful and we...really enjoyed our Winter Sunday breakfast - out of the wind and the sun warmed us beautifully - a great spot.More
Always a delight to get back to The Bean and (probably) the worlds best Flat White. We've been getting takeaway coffees during Level 3, and now the lockdown is over the cafe is fully open again. Good selection of cafe food - I particularly like...the cheese scones. We'd be in more often if it wasn't 11 500 miles away from home!More
About 2 hours before Jacinda put is in level 3 lockdown, the staff were looking harrassed and apologetic in that we had to sign in on a form. But they were coping, efficient, friendly and the date loaf was wonderful. And the milkshake was a...true thick shake. Support them when they can open again.More
little café with a simple selection of food. Its pleasant appearance from the approach and outside area attracted us in. By the waterfront but below the walls.
Have been there with a group sereral times. Mostly just have their good coffee. Cabinet food minimal but has very good sandwiches. No savouries. Wall stories interesting. Needs an update of the missmatch of tables and chairs. With the change of ownership during the year...we have found the service good and with a smile.More
Coffee ........... coffee coffee is really really good even if you ask for weird order Went with older friends who love the food, i think a little bland and hit and miss. Rather than trying to do too many dishes just stick with sammies and...a few cakes. after all its all about the coffee...More
Second time ai have been here first time dry stale scone but good coffee. This time yes good coffee. We ordered a frittata no salad very expensive at $12, it came out after a long wait, though it was not busy, the man too busy...talking to a friend. He was very rude said he didn’t care frittata comes with salad but you don’t have to eat it. It was dry egg with a few frozen veggies in it totally tasteless. We Will not be back even though the coffee is good. Gave it an extra star for that reason The whole experience was terrible.More
I took my parents here for lunch today. Great coffee and a yummy croissant. Followed by a nice little cake. Great place to relax and enjoy lunch. Thanks again. I'll be back.
