We called in here on Easter Friday and bought a ham and cheese roll, almond croissant and a slice of lemon tart to have for a picnic lunch at Ohope Beach. We didn't even make it out of the cafe, as the smell of coffee...(which I drink rarely) was so enticing we ordered coffees and ate the almond croissant out in the courtyard!
We returned the following day for brunch but a lot of our favourites were sold out. However we still enjoyed the Eggs Benny croissant and Breakfast Croissant, plus a slice of almond tart. We also bought some hot cross buns. We returned on Easter Sunday for more lunch supplies (the same as Friday) and again loved the food. The staff were all so welcoming, greeting everyone with a cheery "bonjour!" I hope to return to Whakatane to live one day and this place will be my regular!More
I was looking for something to buy for breakfast this morning but I'm not a fan of McD's. I also don't like panini's from cafes because I find that they load up the front and there's no filling on the rest. I got a takeaway...breakfast croissant, heated. It was delicious and packed with ham, egg and relish. I will definitely be getting them in the future when I want a treat or am running late :) I also want to go back on the weekend so I can enjoy the cool atmosphere.More
A quick lunch all 3 of us ordered seafood chowder, there was a bit of a wait for the food, but they did all arrive at the same time. The weird thing was the chowder, while very tasty was heat level of just tepid ....We then reviewed the menu to say under the title a mention of 22 degrees, so we are assuming this is the temperature it was intended to be served at. As in the title, this is our fault for not reading the menu properly but we did find it not that pleasant to eat at that temperatureMore
We have only recently started visiting Whakatane. We love the atmosphere of L’Epicerie, seems all the friendly staff are French. The croissants are fresh and very good. This will be a regular stop in the future
This pastry cafe is worth a visit. There isn't a huge selection but the quality options they do have are enough.
The chocolate custard croissant is delicious. We will come back from Tauranga again solely for that croissant.
We tried to go for breakfast because of the reviews, but sadly they were closed when we arrived at 09:30 yesterday (Sunday). The Trip advisor said they were open!
