This has to be the winner of best fish n chips in NZ at some point , perfectly cooked and as fresh as you could ever hope for . Staff are happy , friendly and it shows in the results . So good we went...back 2 more times !More

Fish could not have been more fresh. Great chips and nice salad. Very busy little shop right on the wharf filled with locals. This is the place to go for the best fish and chips at a great price.

On recommendation we popped into Gibbo's before returning to our hotel. We were able to select the catch of the day and got fresh snapper and gurnard with lovely crunchy chips, bargin at just under $20.

The very best fish & chips in the north island, I believe. Young blond lady at the counter was amazingly friendly and chatty last night. So welcoming and efficient. The cook last night cooked the best I’ve had at yet at Gibbo’s. The batter was...thin and really crispy, the fish was JUST cooked and done perfectly. I love this place, it has become a tradition for my partner and I to return to for our rare Fish & Chip treat on a summers evening. We travel to eat here.More

The queues and wait time say it all! Gibbo’s on the Wharf is a well known and cherished Whakatane institution! It’s a very simple, unpretentious, inexpensive, old style fish and chip shop with a few inside tables and one outside bench. However, their fish and...chips are right up with the very best ( and we are experts!!!) Hence the reputation, the recommendations, the queues and the wait time! All worth it!!!More
