Called in for a lunch after a trip on the railway. Great location tucked away in the bushes. The soup was excellent, taken outside on the balcony with a wind chime gently sounding and birds flitting in and out. Most enjoyable.

My daughter and I stopped for a late lunch on the way to the railway. Had the best feta, spinach and olive scone I have ever tasted. And the soup and smoothies were brilliant too. Service also came with a lovely smile. Highly recommend.

If I could I would live there! (Please let me?!) It is the most vibe-y place in New Zealand we have been to. We actually came in at the beginning of our journey and returned to Coromandel only because of this Cafe. Atmosphere, food, music,...More

We dived into the cafe in need of something quick ahead of our narrow gauge railway journey, located just 200 metres up the road. Friendly and efficient service. The toasted sarnies were fine. We wish we'd had more time to enjoy the place as it...More

CLOSED FOR WINTER from 4 JUNE 2018 - 15 OCTOBER 2018 Driving Creek Cafe is one of the best kept secrets of Coromandel Town - a warm and homely vegetarian cafe and good quality second hand book shop with a relaxing ambiance 3kms north of the township and only 100 metres from the Driving Creek Railway. On sunny days, the garden is a lovely place to sit and breathe fresh country air, and on cooler winter days, the fire adds to the cosiness of being inside. We can cater to most dietary needs and have a variety of vegan specific menu items - including baking most days. Please be aware, parking up the driveway is limited and it isn't easy to turn around so leaving your car at the bottom is advised. Please note: May to September is our low season. We have less staff, a slower pace, and a revolving menu week to week, featuring nourishing soups and daily blackboard specials.
