I was enjoying a midweek arrangement with my wife. The menues created by Jef were absolutely top of the scale. Each course puts a smile on your face. To be honest I have eaten at restaurants which hold a michelin star which are significantly below Jefs level, and I have seen 2 stars which hardly match this. The focus on local products, their quality and preparation is impressiv. Another huge asset is the very professional staff. The rare combination of highly competent people, which however stay authentic at all times, creating a relaxed atmosphere. A big compliment also to Nadine the somelier authority and attentive host. The pairing wine arrengement is a must.

We went there for lunch, 5 courses, which were well prepared. The halibut was exceptional. All other dishes were well balanced. Great thing is that it is all produced from locally sourced products. Also great to watch their own garden and see the local products being grown

We booked a package at this hotel including dinner, overnight and breakfast. It was really fantastic. Everything was right, from the food to the rooms to the staff. Delicious food combined with perfect wines. Definitely worth repeating!

Michelin stars do not have to be a guarantee to your expectations, but this place deficiently deserves our stars as well. Our (father/son) visit to Texel was both business and pleasure, and going to Bij Jef restaurant was the central point of our stay. We surrendered ourselves into the hands of the team, started in the lounge and the took the 5 courses menu with accompanying wines. Unforgettable, I suggest you let them guide you as well.

The meal was thrilling. Each dish, ingredient, and wine pairing was perfection. One of the finest meals I have ever had. There wasn't a weak spot in the 4 hours I spent there. I have eaten at many 3 star Michellin restaurants and this absolutely deserves 3.

Outstanding food, coupled with knowledgeable and subtle service. What is not to like? Go on - treat yourselves as we did. Not to be missed if you are on Texel and can afford a memorable, gourmet evening here.

The Bij Jef Restaurant & Hotel is located in Den Hoorn on Texel, the largest island of The Netherlands. Staffs are very attentive and cooking is impressive. For over 10 years on a row the restaurant has a Michelin-one-star. We booked for breakfast, lunch and diner and we were impressed. Chef Jef cooks with local products. Using quality ingredients dishes are carefully prepared to a high standard. The sommelier focuses on organic wines and yet the wine list is impressive. We found the service perfect. The food was served at the right temperature and pace. Unfortunately the acoustics in the restaurant is terrible. There are damping materials under the tables. Nonetheless any conversation is nearly impossible when the restaurant is full with guests. We recommend Bij Jef to anyone who seeks very good food and cares less about a relaxed conversation.

BIJ JEF charged me with a 200 euros bill as a fine for not attending the dinner reservation I had made for my birthday evening, spent at the hospital for health issues. While it may be understandable that establishments have such laws to cover revenue loss, it is unacceptable to be treated like this regardless of the case. This was done in an extremely rude manner. 1- be aware that in the Netherlands there is a law that allows restaurants to fine you as such 2 - If you happen to visit the beautiful island of Texel and are looking for a fine dining place, I recommend your continue your route.

You can choose from a 3, 5, or 7 course tasting menu, which I believe range in price from 75 euro to 100 euro. Wine pairings are also possible (the pairing is actually a better deal than just ordering a glass of wine a la carte as the person in our group who did that paid 25 euro for the glass, and the rest of us paid 30 euro for pairings with 3 of the courses). This restaurant is definitely not cheap, but it was memorable and delicious. The chef specializes in lamb and seafood, and most of the courses had one of these elements. One of our party was vegan, and the chef was able to accommodate her with advance notice. Keep in mind this is European dining, so it is not a rushed experience. If you have a time constraint, you need to let them know in advance, otherwise block out the evening and enjoy!

Delicious food, often made from local products like a variety of Northsea fish, shells, crab and of course Texel lamb. Jef is really a mastercook, creating stunning yet harmonious flavours. I loved the sweet Northsea crab with a mild light sour yoghurt style sauce. Fantastic langoustine, short grilled with a strong aromatic 'Dashi' sauce. Nice detail are the matching breads by each dish. Very thoughtful wine arrangement, great hospitality by Nadine and her crew. Can't believe this is only one star. Trip worthy..

Michelin-star restaurant with a Boutique Hotel attached, on the tiny island of Texel. We keep coming back here every year mostly because of Jef's extraordinarily good cuisine. His style is focused on a very light, fresh cuisine, using almost exclusively the excellent local produce from the island. Everything always tastes amazing. The sommeliere always has a very nice recommendation of matching wines, service has never let us down. Breakfast is also exceptional, served as a tasting menu with some 5 or 6 courses. Fanstastic home made bread selection. We are picky when it comes to our restaurants. Between the two of us, my wife and I have eaten literally hundreds of Michelin stars. Yet Jef's remains one of our absolute favorites. His food is not as complex and experimental as in other fancy restaurants - it just provides the exact right balance of local food, lightness, perfect preparation, everything with a modern twist... When we were there this year, they were in the process of expanding the hotel to have a few more rooms (used to be 8 rooms only I think), which should be ready for the 2017 season. We are looking forward to it.

Bij Jef is set in the charming village on Den Hoorn on Texel, ideal place to get away from it all. Bij Jef is currently undergoing significant extension work but that in no way detracted from a first class dining experience, produce as you would expect is the best local fare with seafood, shellfish and lamb featuring prominently on the 6 course taster menu. All dishes very well cooked and presented imaginatively. Matching wine's are also excellent and compliment the food. Staff are worth a particular mention for their work, Stephen in particular went that extra mile and was hugely engaging and had a fantastic knowledge of the dishes. Accommodation whilst minimalist was really pleasant, clean and very well presented. All in all a very good venue that deserves it's Michelin star.
