Highly recommend both their Kohan bento and Tempura bento boxes. Place is always quite full especially if the tourist buses carrying Asians have arrived. The staff are all exceptionally courteous and efficient. Kitchen is very clean. Food is fresh and authentic. Make sure you book as it's popular.

This is a busy place, so get a reservation. They offer a wide selection of sushi and tempura options. The bento box offered the perfect variety! The tekapo roll and fresh NZ salmon was incredible. Be sure to get dessert - each is garnished with a NZ animal made out of honey/sugar and a nest of spun sugar.

As the title says it is important to book before going to this popular place. We arrived with a booking and were led to a table while about 10 diners waited! The menu is basic but to the point. Good, simple Japanese food. The bento boxes are an easy choice if you want to dabble in a bit of everything... More

We are avid fans of Japanese food and frequented many Japanese restaurants in Bangkok. Also we took a trip to Japan a few years ago and ate at many nice restaurants. We were a bit hesitant to visit a Japanese restaurant in New Zealand but we are so glad we did! We would like to say Kohan is one of... More

Went here for dinner, absolutely loved it: 1. Super fresh fish. Their Salmon Don was amazing 2. Also loved their JFC (Japanese Fried Chicken)

At first we struggled to find Kohan tucked behind the back of the "main" row of shops in tekapo. When we did we were pleasantly surprised, plenty of locals getting takeaways and popular with Japanese tourists - a good sign we thought. Super friendly and efficient staff. We both had the tempura bento box probably could get away with one... More

My husband and I ordered 2 different bentos and they are yummy. Very fresh ingredients used and sashimis are good! Reasonably priced. However the restaurant has a weird smell upon entering which kind of turn me off. Be sure to make a reservation as dinner are quite busy.

My wife and I enjoyed dinner here. Prices were reasonable and both the service and food were very good. We made a reservation a day in advance which proved to be prudent. They were turning people away when we were there due to a large bus group that they were hosting.

Stopped in for lunch as I was heading to Aoraki Mt. Cook. Wanted to be sure I could get some of that locally farmed salmon.. Sure did! Had both the sashimi and salmon teriyaki. Food was good, portions decent sized and fairly priced. A good option if in Tekapo (don't let the tour buses parked out front scare you away... More

If you go to Japan than this will only be an average place. But the food is good if not great. Endamame was a bit cold and served with no salt. The Tempura was average - needed better dipping sauce. The shrimp Nigiri on the other hand was really excellent. Miso soup average
