Unfortunately we decided to book this restaurant for a special anniversary dinner as the menu looked lovely online. When we arrived, we were told that the information on their website is incorrect, and it was buffet only. This wasn't mentioned in our two phone calls...with them prior. Between covid and the fact my wife is vegetarian, a $55 (unappealing) buffet wouldn't work for us. Everywhere else half decent in Tekapo was booked or had long wait times so ended up visiting the supermarket and having dinner at home. Would strongly recommend calling ahead and checking that dining is available...More

If we could give this place 10 stars, we would. Nice, relaxed ambience, Excellent and efficient service, good menu range, surprisingly inexpensive and OMG the food! Absolutely sublime! Beautifully cooked, interesting flavour combinations and Who knew a cheesecake could be done like that?!?! We have...been all over the South Island this past week and had meals at all different places, but the Rakanui was overall, The BEST dining experience we jave had our entire holiday. Thank you so much!More

Decent but not amazing food. Good portions and prices. My wife enjoyed the gnocci and i had the ribeye which was pretty standard, not really much flavour which was a little disappointing. The initial service was great but after we had our food we never...heard from staff again till the cleared the plates even though we had finished our drinks before and then when we went to pay we were left standing at the bar a while. The restaurant was nearly empty but there was a small wedding starting next door so maybe was just an off night. There are other options.More

We had a wonderful evening here tonight! The food was beautiful, my husband ordered the salmon and I ordered the soup of the day. The salmon had a beautiful crispy skin and the soup was exactly what I wanted on a cold rainy day. Our...server was wonderful and very accommodating (we didn’t realise they required booking for level 2, but she found us a slot and booked us in.) Definitely recommend this restaurant!More

Went for dinner with husband and 2 children. A very limited kids menu. Not alot to pick for mains, starters were yummy. Dinner did come out very quickly. Service pretty average.

The breakfast menu was comprehensive and, because of Covid restrictions, all meals were served [i.e. there was no buffet. The dinner one adequate but a bit restricted for choice of mains although the quality and quantity were fine and my steak very good. Service was...prompt, friendly and attentive.More

Very good food selection for breakfast with nice view over hotel pond, lake and mountains beside an open fire.

It was ok and I've certainly eaten worse food. I did hear that there are real staff shortages in the area which might explain things a bit. Staff that did serve us were really friendly. Clearly didn't know much about drinks menu and served a...martini in a completely weird glass. Tapas food OK but really had no Spanish feel to the restaurant so interesting choice of food genre.More

The food we had here was really nice, the staff were freindly, enjoyed the experience here, the menu was selective and was local produce from the region. .
