Two of us had the seafood chowder and it was excellent. Probably the best seafood chowder I've had for many years. Highly recommended. The service was faultless too.

This is such a lovely hotel - beautiful old building - gorgeous location and view - kind staff, reminds me of what hotels used to be like before everything became run by a corporation. Definitely get a room that opens onto the enormous upstairs verandah.

Hi Chris, Really appreciate your kind feedback and we're very glad our heritage 1870 building's shortcomings, didn't distract too much from your visit. Very happy to have you back when your next in the vicinity. Many happy travels, Jeremy

Hi Xanthe, Many thanks for your kind words, did you mean to leave only an average rating? Nevertheless, I love those big Californian Chardonnays (the Bogle), not for everyone mind you but maybe for those of us with educated palates (wink wink). Many happy travels,...More

Governors Bay Hotel is an historic 1870s hotel with stunning views over Lyttelton Harbour. Located just 20 minutes drive from central Christchurch via Dyers Pass Road. Gastro-pub fare at reasonable prices from the garden, bar or restaurant. Recommended in the Lonely Planet and 2012/13/14 winner in the Beef and Lamb Excellence Awards. Juke box, pin ball and pool table but definitely no pokies. Stay the night from $119.00 Per couple.
