Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We go to this Restaurant every time we’re in Hanmer and it always delivers! Great food and great service, the Tandoori Mushrooms, Onion Bhaji are delicious, Biryani exceptional. Thanks again for an awesome dinner.
Very excited to hear that Indian Springs have opened a restaurant in Christchurch, will definitely look forward to going there 👏

This was our first visit to this restaurant and wish we had found it on our previous visit to Hanmer Springs.
The food here is delicious and the portions are realistic. We tried the prawn kadai with a baingan bharta. They came with basmati rice and we added a naan bread and mango chutney.
You can choose how spicy hot you like your food. As we like things fairly spicy we opted for medium hot. It was spot on. A good zing without being burning hot!
It’s reasonably priced and the staff are friendly and helpful.
We would definitely recommend

My wife and I have literally just finished dinner at this restaurant and have to say the food is amongst the best I have had outside of India and the U.K.
It is only a small restaurant and quite unassuming but the staff are friendly, keen to please and, above all, eager to show off their cuisine from different regions of India. They have a small selection of bottled beers, one on draft (Kingfisher) and several wines to choose from. There is a good range of starters, main dishes and desserts but I warn you, the portions are very generous.
We chose dishes we hadn’t tried “back home” and were not disappointed. Not too hot for my wife and just right for me but they will tailor any meal to any temperature you care to ask for.
If you like your Indian food and find yourself in Hanmer Springs make a point of heading out to this restaurant. It’s right in the town centre and there is plenty of on street and off street parking.
You will not be disappointed.

Depends what you’re used to folks - as a tourist from the UK I may’ve been anticipating a slightly different interpretation of Indian food.
The popadoms & chutneys were very ‘out a plastic tub’. The garlic nan wasn’t large, but ok, & my wife & I’s curries were, well, average whilst lacking anything remotely memorable (including a decent amount of chicken). I’d guess you’d be better off elsewhere.

Pleasant experience, but overpriced for lunch time Indian. Most Indian restaurants throughout NZ do a lunch time special for under $20. No lunch time special here which is all good but up there in price. $28 for a vegetarian curry which had only a few pieces of Panner in it, the rest was a bowl of sauce. Some rice and garlic naan.

Absolutely the best Indian we have ever tried and the service was magnificent. We went there with friends for a birthday and couldn’t have been more impressed from the onion bahjies to the butter prawns. If visiting Hanmer and like Indian give this place a go, you won’t be disappointed.

We often eat at Indian restaurants and have done so at Indian Springs several times in the past. The food is always good but this time seemed even better. The naans were some of the lightest I have had. We went for the $40 Indian banquet and this proved great value for money. We had a discount voucher on my phone, which for some reason did not work however the manager gave us the discount anyway. We will be back.

Incredible service from the crew at Coriander Leaf. The manager, Sarabjeet, did all he could to make my partner's pre-engagement/birthday evening as special as he could, even going so far as to call me multiple times, getting a birthday banner/ balloons free of charge, and introducing himself personally upon arrival. The staff were the most attentive we've ever seen at a restaurant, checking in frequently to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. They even opened the door for customers on their way out of the restaurant after finishing their meals!
The food was the best Indian we've tasted in 2 years of travelling all over NZ, and the most fairly priced - no doubt about it. These are genuine, honest, down to earth people who make incredible food, and are passionate about delivering high quality in every aspect of their restaurant experience. Ignore any reviews bashing their service - they are utter nonsense.
Thank you again Sarabjeet and the team at Coriander Leaf! Definitely recommend to all and will definitely be back!

good, could need a few slight improvements.
the 2 main ones is they need to use a water filter for the water carafes and the ice served with the soft drinks, the local pools have less chlorine in them and honestly it distracts the taste away from some pretty good curry with good meat portions ( you will be paying for it though)
secondly, if you are going to play music, it should be subdued and played thru something decent. a "warehouse special" at the front of the shop that honestly was screechy sounding was pretty horrid, luckily the hostess turned it down after a few minutes to use the phone .
but in general the food is damn good, service is too, its a little cramped but the staff do it as clean as they can between serves.
best of all "extra hot" on the menu means just that! not just that little extra kick. i ordered it that way and really enjoyed it and i am a chilli freak
so if you are the owner reading this: please get a water filter!! honestly if i had drunk a glass of the table water before eating i wouldnt have enjoyed the meal anywhere as near as much

O M G. The food is to die for! It's not just the best Indian food we've tried, but the best meal we've tasted in a long while. Everything our group of four ordered was so incredibly delicious and cooked to perfection that we all agreed it was the unexpected highlight of our weekend. It's worth stopping by Hanmer just for Indian Springs alone. Definitely recommend!

The food was amazing, service good and price extremely reasonable. Very authentic and questions regarding origins of dishes was given with enthusiasm. They had chura which is often difficult to get at a lot of other Indian restaurants. Highly recommended.

Good service on a busy night but very average food. The rice and naans were well cooked but the curries themselves left a lot to be desired. Lamb overcooked and tough and seasonal vegetable curry was in fact frozen mixed veg. We won’t be returning and will the other curry house in Hanmer next time.

Absolutely delicious, and very good value. We ordered 2 starters and a main, and a couple of naans between the 2 of us, and left very full, with a takeaway container full of leftovers for the next day. Highly recommend the chicken tikka, and aloo gobi curry! Looking forward to coming back next time we're in Hanmer Springs.
Note: their medium is spicier than some other Indian restaurants.

Small restaurant with prompt good service and stunning food of generous portion size. We started with onion bhaji served as dumplings which were delicious. As mains were shared two dishes we weren’t familiar with but both were stunning; Bhuna Lamb and Chicken Achari a Rajasthani dish. Several other dishes were on the menu which we didn’t get to try but that were new to us too. We will be back next time we are in Hamner Thanks team
