Mirek leads the team splendidly. A great host whose food only just shades his hospitality. The quality and presentation of the food, the flavour combinations ( which are clever but not pretentious) are exceeded only by very fair pricing. I don’t just recommend, you need/must go out of your way to make sure you experience this fare- the locals, of which many of the guests were this night, know what they’ve got here

This place is ridiculous. I've never had such a great time and a more interesting and enjoyable meal, and the owner spent exactly the right amount of time chatting away with us and informing us about everything he was serving up and telling us about his past lives as a chef in other countries. I'm going to be recommending this place to everybody I know who comes up to Hanmer! Fantastic food and such a different experience with such creativity in their dishes.

Love this place! I had the beef dumplings in borscht and it was incredible, as were my partners pierogis. The chef always comes out and speaks to the diners, which is brilliant as he's so passionate! The bottle of wine he recommended to us finished everything off perfectly. For the price you pay too, this place is fantastic.

We showed up on a Friday evening without a reservation and it is fortunate that we dine early because the owner graciously accommodated us. The food was divine: delicious flavors, artful presentation. I ended up loving even the things I didn’t expect to like such as a piece of red onion with cinnamon. And the dessert? Divine. Best dessert I’ve had in New Zealand. No contest.
Absolutely exquisite from start to finish.

If you’re only here for a night, go here! The waiter takes the time to find out what you like and recommendeds dishes for you. He then explains in full what each side salad is when it arrives, all full with flavour. He was full of passion and very knowledgeable. Dessert is a must. Our 7 and 4 year old demolished their meal.
A gorgeous, special meal out. Thank you, we will be back!

This is undoubtedly one of yhe best restaurant i have been to in my life. We were a little worried as its was a sushi/dumplings place and we were vegetarians. Knowing this the chef said i will try to make something for you and it turned out to be the best sushi and dumplings i have had in my life. I still remember his words "vegetarian food can be good also". This restaurant is a hidden jewel. It belongs in a middle of a high end city. The deserts were also mind blowing.

We had a terrific evening at MK. The host is delightful and made sure that everyone was happy, from inventing cocktails on the spot to making sure that our dietary requirements were catered to. The food was almost too pretty to eat, and it tasted as good as it looked. Doing one thing really well is the key to this restaurant's charm, and we will definitely be back.

Right from the moment we were greeted by the proprietor we knew the restaurant was run with genuine love and enthusiasm for food. The theme is simple, dumplings, but the execution is sophisticated and everything served with the dumplings is a work of art in its own right. Desert looked expensive on the menu, however if you want the visual and favour spectacle to continue you would be wise to choose one.

My wife and I have eaten at establishments such as "Dinner by Heston" in Melbourne and others of equal quality. MK Restaurant of Hanmer Springs is right up there. Stunning quality of food with flavour bursts to sing about. The attention to detail in the artistic presentation and the care taken to ensure you understand the direction of the culinary experience is second to none. The owner goes out of his way to ensure that you have been informed of the delightful choices available, delivers the delights and leaves you to enjoy. The wine recommendations are perfect matches for the food. This is a restaurant where you absolutely must have a desert - you would be cheating yourself if you didn't. On top of this, it is amazing value for the quality delivered. My wife and I would not hesitate to return. Booking essential - MK Restaurant is truly #1 in Hanmer.

Whilst at first sight the menu appears to be limited, what you get is a first class meal coupled with excellent service and value. The presentation is a work of art with a myriad of flavour combinations. If you are in Hanmer Springs for any length of time make sure you have at least one dinner here, but book ahead.

Lovely restaurant with welcoming staff. We enjoyed our meals of spinach and ricotta and the miners pasties boot were served with delicious salads and sides. Fortunately we were able to share a desert it was amazing absolutely delicious

MK should be a world-changing restaurant. Nestled amongst the ok, but not spectacular clubs, pubs and hubs of Hanmer is something so breathtaking, yet socialised at an entirely reasonable price point that the Government of the day is probably close to nationalising it.
The food is, well complex – next to a simple base of the most gorgeous pierogies (little dumplings of incredible complexity) is a veritable garden of salads, relishes and sauces and flowers; no doubt intricately put together by cherubs accompanied by harps… and I haven’t even got to the deserts which are the gastronomical love child of a Baz Luhmann movie and the Tate Modern. Whether you are a delicate, or big eater – there is something for you here.
The Owner, Chef, chief raconteur guides you through what you are eating, understands the best wine accompaniments and can regale with stories of near and far – perfect in these covid purgatory times where Europe feels very far away.
This restaurant is a big deal…. You should definitely go.

What an amazing experience! Wasn’t sure what sort of cuisine to expect.
All of the flavours in the mains were delicious, and all worked in together to make the dish special. But the dessert...wow! The desserts were the sort of thing you would expect someone like Heston Blumenthal to create. There were just so many elements to them. I have never had a dish so intricate, or so divine.
And the host, Marek, made the experience even better, if that was possible. He has a knack of making you feel like he has invited you into his home. Trust him to pick your wine choice. He is a master.
This place is a Must Do!

OMG.This was the best dinner we have ever had period. First the service is impeccable and friendly, the owners are the very best friendly and knowledgeable. You feel like family after eating here. And there is the food a true gastronomical experience. This is a dining experience you will not forget from the minute you work in the door to the main course, it is a true foodie's dream.

From the moment we arrived at MK Restaurant we were treated to the most amazing dining experience. Mirek greeted us and spent the evening ensuring that all guests were treated as if they were special and explained how their menu worked.
The presentation and taste of the food was just beautiful. Mirek and his team are very passionate about their style of eating and we just loved the journey they took us on. We had never experienced dining out quite the way MK does it.
It was our wedding anniversary and we were treated to a fabulous dessert and prior to this we experienced all the wonderful flavours of dumplings and the side dishes they came with.
This restaurant is not just a dumpling restaurant, it is a fabulous experience that we would highly recommend and we can't wait to get the chance to come back. Thank you so much!
