From the moment stepped in the experience was exceptional. Wait staff were attentive and aware, they remembered snippets of info and the food was delicious. Brother in law from UK thought the steak was the best he’d eaten in years. We couldn’t fault the whole evening. Thank you Alpino

Highly recommended by our hosts this proved to be a star attraction for our time in Cambridge. Undoubtedly the restaurant would still be full if it were double the size but with classic Italian flair and aplomb Ricardo managed to squeeze us in and Gerard waited on us with considerable skill and impeccable timing. Given that he was dealing with a huge number of customers, he was unfailingly polite, unfussed and extremely knowledgeable. We enjoyed a first class meal with excellenet wine and were delighted by the size of the bill. Suggest this is a must for anyone visiting this lovely town

We live in Cambridge and dine in Alpino fairly regularly with my wife and two young kids. We love the place. Great atmosphere, always busy, great food and really appreciate the staff who make a point of learning our names and making us feel very welcome every time we come. Riccardo in particular!

Went here some years ago the food was good but the service a bit hit and miss, this time both were superb. We were a group of 4 and had a range of dishes including Octopus starter (really good) Seafood Risotto, Beef Pappardelle (really tender), antipasto, pizza, 3 desserts. All were really enjoyed.
Service was top notch friendly helpful waiting staff kept themselves busy filling water glasses and wine glasses , checking on guests. As good a service as I have had anywhere in New Zealand.
Their lunch menu I believe is the same as their dinner menu so the price up there for lunch but well worth it.
We look forward to going back.

On arrival we were kindly greeted by an Italian gentleman who made us feel welcome despite being very busy with other customers. The interior was absolutely exquisite and instantly had me reminiscing on my travels in Italy (the finer dining part of the trips). Our waitress was lovely and very knowledgeable; making sure we were well looked after the entire night, whilst not being annoying (as she could see we were on a date night). I had a few cocktails which were light and softly highlighted the alcohol. The oysters were large and flavoursome paired with a beautiful Italian vinaigrette. Absolutely recommend the octopus salad (paired with a rocket and pear side salad) and my partner ordered the aged beef. Both meals were absolutely divine and perfect portion sizes. We are looking forward to dining again x

I booked a couple of weeks out for a large group, the options were explained to me and even phone calls to ensure we were both on the same page. I was allowed to provide a Birthday cake and this was held in their kitchen until Desert time, when they bought the cake out and lit the candles.
The service was amazing, friendly and prompt and the food.....just devine!
Thank you to the Team at Alpino for making my partners birthday surprise party a real success......see you for the next one :-)

The prawn entre with a lightly spiced sauce served with two thick toasted sourdough served in a bowl with a deep side - the bread I pulled apart and supped up all the beautiful sauce served with a glass of magnificent white wine from Lombardy.
Veal sliced magically wafer thin served with caper Mayonnaise and a glass of red italian.
Dessert was a searingly beautiful chocolate mouse not too sweet served with sour cherries and lightly crushed macadamia nuts.
What a stunning meal to serve an ageing widow (my mum) sitting at the bar fully engaged with the ambiance, friendliness and share professionalism of the staff. Mamma Mia, I look forward to my return visit

Reputation preceded this restaurant but it didn't really deliver for me. The restaurant was busy for a lunch service on a weekday and the food was definitely tasty but on the pricey side at $37 for what was essentially an average sized bowl of elbow pasta with 5 small prawns, even if it was all freshly handmade. My friend had 3 pieces of ravioli for the same price, and her lovely glass of red was $16. I'm not a wine drinker but that seemed a bit excessive too. Not much on the dessert menu if you didn't like coffee - we thought they'd be well served by a cabinet of delicious cakes to go with coffee after a light lunch and that's exactly what we had - across the road at Paddock cafe. The service was friendly and attentive, and it was certainly a popular venue in a little town that has a good choice in eateries.

We drive from South Auckland to visit this lovely restaurant and it's worth it every time. Lovely atmosphere, excellent food and service and unbeatable value for money. Eye fillet was cooked to perfection and melt in the mouth. The butcher next door and cheese shop up the top of the high street are also well worth a visit!

On a Sunday night, this small town eatery was buzzing. Very popular with the locals, it seems you should think about booking even if you are planning to visit on a “quiet night”. We hadn’t, but did manage to get a table indoors. The restaurant offers a lineup of tables outdoors at the front of the building, looking out over one of the main streets of Cambridge, great for people watching. But indoors also has plenty of character, a mix of high and low tables, and although full and buzzing, we could still manage a good conversation. We ordered antipasto and pizzas, several wines, and ended with coffee. If on offer, we would have liked to include more vegetables, perhaps in the form of a creative salad, but that was our only small disappointment with the menu. The “wine by the glass” options are limited; the coffee is excellent. Quality ingredients for our pizzas and antipasto, and meals which did not come out quickly but also did not take TOO long. Good things take some time after all. A good night out.

I went in with high hopes having heard really good things. The front of house Italian guy was really welcoming and energetic. Pity the rest of the staff weren't like him.
The menu was small unless you liked pizza and the prices up there.
Service was prompt but waitresses were lacking in basics such as a smile or any personality. It was only after we ordered did we realise she didn't tell us what the specials were. A pretty basic thing.
Meals came promptly and were delicious but presentation was lacking especially the risotto.
Our plates were taken without any asking "would you like to see the dessert menu". We did but were unsure if it was coming or not. It did come about 5 minutes later.
Dessert was ok but not the best I've had.
All in all food was good but there are better upmarket Italian restaurants in the waikato.

Meals have become very expensive for what is served. Several items on the menu were not available. One guest ordered a mocktail and got served a cocktail which could have had severe consequences had the guest not noticed. Apart from an apology no compensation was offered. Is no longer on our list of preferred restaurants in Cambridge. Too expensive

We love Alpino, the first time we dined with friends and I ordered the fish of the day which was incredible! I used them to catchup with friends for a birthday lunch and ordered the prawns and the rocket salad which was so delicious and last night my husband and I shared the prawns and a truffle oil pizza which was incredible too. The kids love the pizzas and the free sprinkle ice creams which come with it. This restaurant has a great ambience, great service and amazing food. Definitely our favourite restaurant in Cambridge!

I had the best pizza here since I left Europe 13 years ago. The base was cooked to perfection, the toppings were fresh and quality. My wife had the gluten free pizza and I'm told that was very good too! Attentive staff and a lovely venue, happy to recommen to anyone and we'll go again.

I brought my parents here for dinner and we had a great time. Service was really friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was humming on a Friday night. Food was delicious, we had a few starters including calamari and olives to start and then prawn pizza, pasta and pear salad. Will definitely be back (especially in summer when we can sit outside!). Best dinner spot in Cambridge.
