We got in very late from Auckland airport ,on a Sunday night and many places were closed. We were so excited to find Stable still open! Had fabulous gourmet pizzas and a cocktail. Staff were friendly and accommodating. I am not usually a pizza eater...but these were next level!!More
The bar-restaurant is spacious and well-designed on different levels to cater to all occasions and groups. For us, it was a mother-daughter event to celebrate in the middle of a rainy and cold day in front of a fireplace. The place was pretty busy, but...you did not notice because there were many different seating arrangements. Coming from Hamilton, we were surprised by the service. Quick, efficient, but also very warm and embracing. We chatted for a few minutes and returned from the toilets, and boom, there was the food within 15 minutes! I wanted to do this again because of the special and genuine attention I got from the waitress—a menu with a wide variety. The only pasta dish was so good. I never tasted anything so delicious and considered myself a pasta connoisseur. My daughter rated the pizza to be above average. The mocktails were superb. No dessert, but with the dishes generous and big there was no need for dessert. It is reasonably priced for great food and excellent service, and well done!More
They forgot to put order in. Then accused us of telling them our order was wrong when we place it. Waiter man is very rude .
Wonderful Food, Great Atmosphere, Fantastic Staff who were friendly and super Efficient. Meals were delicious and big ! We're had a separate room for a group of 26 and a set menu of 2 entrees and 3 mains and 1 desert and no one was...disappointed in their meals. Well trained friendly staff is an absolute credit to this restaurant!! Can't wait to go again !More
We stopped by to grab some Sunday lunch as it was a nice sunny day out. We tried the steak as well as the fish and chips. The steak was delicious and we really enjoyed it while the fish was just ok, maybe we weren't...used to the seasoning or the way it was battered. We have been delighted with the food in New Zealand, so it is with sadness that we say that we have just eaten the WORST FOOD WE HAVE EATEN HERE! Tonight, we had dinner at The Stables on Alpha, and we could not eat what...we had ordered. The first,most obvious problem wacs salt. Everything was so heavily salted as to be inedible. Yes, this is a bar, and salty food might sell drinks, but not if patrons refuse to eat it. Further,we have had meals in almost every restaurant in town, so we know this level of salt is NOT common practice here. Second, most of the food here tasted like it was delivered by a food service company and the "chef" then turned on the fryer and threw everything in. The chicken tenders (Southern Style Fried Chicken) were tough,over cooked, and I left 3 out of 5 on my plate. I often try onion rings because they have a history in my family. My experience with the offering here was that the rings came out of a frozen food service bag,were cooked too long, and then covered with salt. I left most of them,also. Finally, the pork belly, which is a common offering in these parts, did not taste good. You have to have a plan to cook pork belly to highlight its unique qualities. The chef here does not seem to know what those qualities are. Except to think that the skin needs lots and lots of salt. The town of Cambridge has so much more to offer in the way of quality food that you should give this place a pass.More

Dinner was vege risotto for me and fresh spaghetti pasta with bacon and garlic for mum. Caramel brûlée and sticky date pudding for dessert. Service and food were top notch. Restaurant was very busy on a Thursday night. Great atmosphere. We will be back again....Thank you for a fabulous evening.More
I couldn't spoil our family evening by complaining on the night ,but it was hard not too. How chefs get any satisfaction turning out less than average food ,beats me .I had to keep looking at the menu to try and match up the food...on my plate ,There are some lovely food options in Cambridge ,but sadly this isn't one of them.More
We have been going to stables regularly for 8 months every friday and more. But last week we were more or less thrown out. As the 3 of us sometimes more were told to move from a table at five to six for a reservation...at 6. We didn't know that the table was reserved and when we asked if there was any where else we could sit the waitress just shrugged her shoulders. Sounds like sour grapes, maybe, but between us we spend about 1400 a month. The way we were treated in our opinion was rude, discourteous and disrespectful.More
To be fear was busy, entre was lovely, meal of the steak was lacking, steak was grizzly and not pleasant to eat and vegetables were cold
Great selection on tap! Making it easy to grab a cold one on any occasion! The appetizers were great to share with friends out on an outing to help wash down the beers! Staff were friendly and accommodating! Great seating outside and back patio for...a nice summer day!More
I think the party I was with ordered every starter on the menu tonight and they all got rave reviews. The fish and chips were amazing along with the Market Fish. We even brought home some sticky date pudding and cheesecake!
