Great Choice

Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff. Was pretty busy when we went but managed to get a table. The service, considering how busy it was, was top notch. The menu although lacking in quantity covered all bases, the meals we chose were well presented, tasted good and were worth what we paid. Certainly deserves a return visit.

Hugely improved

Hugely improved since we last ate here a couple of years ago. Stopped in for lunch and were met by a bright and welcoming staff member. The pork ribs are so delicious, the best I have ever had, served with fries and salad. A finger bowl was also provided without me having to ask for one. Husband said his Eggs Benedict was very good also. The service was very good.

FAMILY lUNCH AT STAPLES ON ALPHA

We had a family Lunch today at Staples 5 Adults and 5 children. The Kids loved their meals and the Adults meals were excellent , Had the ribs the meat fell off the bones and other meals were excellent. Couldn,t fault anything The service was excellent. And l would recommend to friends a good place in Cambridge for a great Meal. Thanks

Disappointed

We went to stables for a dinner and had not been for some time. The staff greeting was friendly. Once we received our meals I was disappointed with my main as I ordered pork belly which had very little sauce, the skin wasn’t crispy and the mash was luke warm. The chicken and mushroom linguine had very little chicken or mushroom. The biggest disappointment was the reaction from staff once they had collected the plates and I had only mentioned the issue with the lack of Sauce etc on the pork belly dish( I didn’t mention the linguini disappointment) . They pretty much said we should have mentioned this when they did the meal check, but this was way too soon as we had only had about one bite of the food. Overall the food wasn’t great and the reaction was disappointing. We were given a discount but unlikely to return.

Called in on a Sunday night for tea and to give us a break from driving. So pleased we came here. Service was good. Food was really delicious ... great value too. We loved everything we had: cheesy garlic flatbread, blue cheese wontons and asian pork belly salad. Would definitely call in again - even make a special trip. So yum!

Starters and Fish & Chips!

I think the party I was with ordered every starter on the menu tonight and they all got rave reviews. The fish and chips were amazing along with the Market Fish. We even brought home some sticky date pudding and cheesecake!

Excellent food with great service at moderate price.

The bar-restaurant is spacious and well-designed on different levels to cater to all occasions and groups. For us, it was a mother-daughter event to celebrate in the middle of a rainy and cold day in front of a fireplace. The place was pretty busy, but you did not notice because there were many different seating arrangements. Coming from Hamilton, we were surprised by the service. Quick, efficient, but also very warm and embracing. We chatted for a few minutes and returned from the toilets, and boom, there was the food within 15 minutes! I wanted to do this again because of the special and genuine attention I got from the waitress—a menu with a wide variety. The only pasta dish was so good. I never tasted anything so delicious and considered myself a pasta connoisseur. My daughter rated the pizza to be above average. The mocktails were superb. No dessert, but with the dishes generous and big there was no need for dessert. It is reasonably priced for great food and excellent service, and well done!

Family Occasion

I couldn't spoil our family evening by complaining on the night ,but it was hard not too. How chefs get any satisfaction turning out less than average food ,beats me .I had to keep looking at the menu to try and match up the food on my plate ,There are some lovely food options in Cambridge ,but sadly this isn't one of them.

Slow service but great food

First time to this restaurant. Started off well with friendly waiter. However our drinks took a long time, and when we queried where they were we were told the bar staff were very busy. Next minute the waiter is back checking on what drinks we ordered “so the bar staff get it right”?? Just be honest and say you didn’t give our drinks order to the bar! Then another long wait for the flatbread order - was delivered uncut but no knife to cut it with. So chased a waiter for this. Then another long wait for our mains. They were delicious - thank goodness!! Had to keep asking the wait staff for water refills. Don’t know why they don’t just give us a bottle of water for our table? No-one came to ask if we’d like our leftovers (pizza) put in a box to take home. Once again we had to chase a waiter for this. Not sure we’ll come back, which is a pity as it’s a great venue.

Wont be coming back here again

Since the new owners have taken over its been Such a shame to see what was an amazing local tarnished in so little time! Not only is the service below average, in fact some days you get no service, no greeting, theres no welcome any more, the staff have all changed, joint needs a major clean, the floors were horrific and the toilets looked like you could catch an STD, The last owner made such an impact in her business it shows how quickly one only cares about finances and not the people who bring that in. Ive visited multiple times in hopes it was a on off. The food was not what was on the menu, the portion sizes have decreased majorly! $18 for 4 ribs nothing else, what a joke! Kids steak was horrible! Best thing we had was the cheesy bread and coke

Regulars not welcome?

We have been going to stables regularly for 8 months every friday and more. But last week we were more or less thrown out. As the 3 of us sometimes more were told to move from a table at five to six for a reservation at 6. We didn't know that the table was reserved and when we asked if there was any where else we could sit the waitress just shrugged her shoulders. Sounds like sour grapes, maybe, but between us we spend about 1400 a month. The way we were treated in our opinion was rude, discourteous and disrespectful.

Lovely restaurant

We stopped by to grab some Sunday lunch as it was a nice sunny day out. We tried the steak as well as the fish and chips. The steak was delicious and we really enjoyed it while the fish was just ok, maybe we weren't used to the seasoning or the way it was battered. Overall the ambience was lovely and staff were friendly.

What a great meal. Be sure to book to make sure you get a table. Great choices on the menu, pizza, burgers, a great roast vege salad and a variety of other dishes. There was a great atmosphere and the staff were lovely. Service was very good. Highly recommend

Awesome dinner.

Dinner was vege risotto for me and fresh spaghetti pasta with bacon and garlic for mum. Caramel brûlée and sticky date pudding for dessert. Service and food were top notch. Restaurant was very busy on a Thursday night. Great atmosphere. We will be back again. Thank you for a fabulous evening.

Club dinner and meeting so disappointing

Very disappointed. Loved coming here but very slow service even had to wait for someone to come and serve st bar over 5 minutes. Menu has all changed. Usedvto be good nz tucker now fancy strange food. Notveven fish and chips anymore. So sad a great place turns so quickly. Stick to known successes.
