Service was prompt and friendly.
We ordered an entree which they had to alter as they didn't have all the ingredients but that didn't matter because it was delicious. It was the last entre on the menu, sorry can't remember the name.
The mains we got were the goat special and chicken biryani which were both delicious! The meat portion of goat was very generous and cooked to perfection, as it should be considering it turned out to be more expensive than most dishes on the menu, but was worth it
Rice is $1 extra which we found a little odd as we think it should come included.
Regardless it was delicious and we would return

We visited the spice room for dinner. Online reservation worked easily and well.
Service is friendly and attentive but could be a bit more personal.
Food is good and typical Indian. We had naan bread as starter (a bit unusual style - more like pizza slices). Dips have to be ordered extra which is somewhat unusual.
For mains we had butterchicken and some mixed grill. All good.
Overall a decent restaurant but quite functional. A 3.5 star experience but benefit of the doubt makes it a 4

This was a day to find a calm spot, a relaxing atmosphere and an ambience in which eating was a huge pleasure. Well, the day was fine enough but the evening really gave us exactly what we needed.
It was clam (where was everybody?), we could relax because we were made so welcome (although I was not allowed to sit near the adorable waitresses) plus the ambience...well, listen to this.
We chose where we wanted to sit, were made to take as much time as we wanted. Then those smells - from all round this restaurant humming with satisfied mumbling - clutched at our salivary glands and hurried us to choose.
All was fabulous and the tastes exactly what each of us wanted; a sense of authenticity, the amounts good enough even for the travelling curry glutton. All in all YUM. Go there. Travel (when it's right) and make your way here, whatever the season.
It will not damage your wallet at all.

Starting with the service , finishing with the food. Horrible experience, the blonde girl who was not from New Zealand was unpleasant and impolite. We got a take away, and they forgot to put one of the dishes in. So we had to come back, which was time wasting. The same lady did not even apologised. The food was very disappointing. For three people we spend $145 for take away food and didn’t even eat it. Would not recommend this place. 👎

Dine in, seated just before 8pm. We ordered a vindaloo and the lamb chops with rice and naan at 8pm or thereabouts. Our food did not arrive until after 845, with an apology from the wait staff. I have never waited that long for a curry ever and also would have expected some communication from the staff over a delay - for all I knew there may have been a legitimate excuse for the lengthy delay. The chops were tasty, a little over cooked but not dry. The curry was tasty but we should have asked for it spicier (our fault). If not for the wait time it would have been a good meal.

When getting a takeaway, I was informed that all of their curries and rice are gluten free, and so are the onion bhajees. I had been driving all day and hadn't eaten so I got all three! The bhajees were not what I was expecting, more like onion rings I guess, definitely not what we call bhajees in the UK anyways. They were fine, but obviously greasy and you get loads of them. I got pilau rice which was fine, and a paneer curry. I don't know what it was, but something I ate here made me sick. Presumably it was the onion bhajees and i'm coeliac so maybe there was cross contamination in the fryer, but since they were gluten free on the menu I thought it would be fine. I had leftovers again the next night but no more bhajees and still felt really sick. So I wouldn't recommend if you're coeliac but it might be ok if you're gluten free for other reasons.
Closed on Mondays!!

As soon as we arrived, we were taken to our table and throughout the evening the staff would check in with us to make sure we were ok for food and drink. They were upfront about wait times because the kitchen was busy. Loved the mix platter entree and butter chicken is to die for. Amazing food and excellent service, will definitely be back. It must be good because the takeaway orders were flying-out the door the entire time we were there.

I have been eating Indian all over the world since before I was born. This little restaurant had the best service and creates the most amazing Indian food in the whole world. While I was in Wanaka I ate from here 3 times. The main reason I was sad to leave Wanaka, is because I knew I wasn’t going to get to eat this Indian food until I returned. Seriously. Just eat it!

We followed our noses after experiencing the delicious smells coming from The Spice Room. We had the banquet for 2 .. our eyes were bigger than our stomachs .. the food was fresh and cooked perfectly. The service was very efficient and friendly and they made a very good cocktail while we waited for dinner.

Highly recommend this Indian restaurant. Dined here on a busy evening during the school holidays. Even though they were extremely busy we were seated promptly and food came out quickly. Curries were flavoursome and seasoned perfectly- not too salty.

I don't typically go to Indian restaurants as I am not a big fan of spicy food but the menu here looked really good. So glad we went here as I had one of my top meals in NZ here. I ordered the Mango Chicken and it was out of this world. The portion was huge and I could not eat it all but the flavor was so good and I wish I could find a place here in the US where I could get this. The starter of Naan was also good but the Mango Chicken was excellent. Stop in an give this place a try.

We were craving some spice and the Spice Room really delivered big time. Great fish tikka to start followed by the scallop and prawn goan curry and chicken tikka masala which were both extremely delicious. Good garlic nan and onion kulcha too.

The food was amazing so many lovely flavours and so tasty.
We had butter chicken, chicken jalfrazi and prawn and scallop goa curry. The heat of the curry was perfect so you Gould taste the flavour combinations.
The service was fantastic and the server knew a lot about the flavours and the meals.
Best Indian I have had to date.

This is easily my best experience of Indian cuisine on the South Island, let alone in Wanaka! The delicious, wide-ranged menu caters for all dietary requirements and the flavours are simply an explosion to one's taste buds.
The service was absolutely perfect and the staff are very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. This is an absolute must if you live in or are visiting Wanaka.
My personal favourite dishes are the malai kofta and the exquisite biryani but everything I've tried (which is almost the entire menu at this stage haha) is delightful!

We always enjoy Indian food and try to eat at the smaller restaurants rather than the bigger chains.
We went to The Spice Room in Wanaka and experienced one of the best Indian meals we’ve ever had. There was so much flavour in the dishes we ordered and the naan breads were delicious too.
The service was friendly and the prices were good.
Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for somewhere to tantalise your taste buds.
