Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Honestly usually a solid place but this time they got my beer wrong and tried to convince me it was right??? My bruschetta was soup and soggy bread, my pizza was soaked in balsamic and then when I order a different beer to avoid that...incorrect selection, they got it wrong again!!! Not coming back thanks tho I've never written a review inside a restaurant before so this is a firstMore

What a difference a year can make. Last year, for my wife's birthday we tried GLG and were more than pleasantly surprised by warm and outstanding service and a good meal. Today, we were greeted nonchalantly and our service was undistinguished when it wasn't disinterested...quickly changing our anticipation into disappointment. The bar staff were more interested in talking to each other than paying attention to the paying customers. Enough said. We will not return. PS the fish and chips were as good as last year but not a good enough reason to return.More

On our first night in Newport RI, we had lobster rolls at the Gas Lamp Grille. Everything was good but nothing special.

Stopped with my daughter for a drink and a snack. The nachos with chili were ok but not our favorite. The chili was too sweet to be on nachos. But...the spicy clam chowder was the best

This venue was quite crowded for an early FALL outing. The service is very good and the food and beverage quickly and well prepared. I have been in Newport for many years and the presentation of the NY Sirloin is great and of course I...am off duty now with my second drink of Italian lemonade made with lemoncello and lemon vodka! Newport has events of all kinds throughout the year. The annual flower show, the old folk and jazz festivals, and of course the Newport Mansions at holiday time. During the end of the pandemic, I walked through one of the mansions holiday lights show which was the first because of health reasons and exposure to COVID. Annually there are 3 mansions decorated for the holidays. When I had my solo photography show in 20!7, Ethan Galvin insisted that I allow him to show the decorated staircase at the Breakers for the holiday season in color at the top of his article announcing my show. Anyway should you be in NEWPORT for any event this venue should be visited and enjoyed.More

We wanted a light supper -- good food without too much culinary flair. This place was outstanding. I had the cod sandwich, cooked to perfection, superior roll, and steamed broccoli on the side. It was steamed, not pale and pulpy as some places might do....My wife had an amazingly generous salad with quinoa, beets, Brussels sprouts, almond, and maybe more. Prices were refreshingly reasonable. Tap list was thorough, but mostly dedicated to larger mass market craft breweries. They compensated for this with a house APA brewed by Ragged Island. And Jesse, our server, was a high energy, very pleasant person.More

Hit the gas lamp again last weekend, thought it was worth leaving a review. Just a great experience - wife and I often look to try new places and always come back. They have a formula for a casual night out that just stands up....Always worth the trip.More

We had lunch with our granddaughter today at Gas Lamp Grill. As with every place in Newport this week, there was a wait to get a table. The hostess took my phone number and said the wait would be 20-30 minutes. After 30 minutes, we...went back and I told the hostess that we had been waiting. She said she was "just about to call me". I'm not so sure. After a few minutes we were seated in the bar area. Our server was also the bar tender. The bar was filled with patrons so for her to be serving tables was more than an unreasonable expectation. She did take our orders and she brought our drinks, but then another young man delivered our food. The best things about our lunch were the orange cinnamon infused bourbon manhattan and the fried pickles. The chicken wings were just ok. My wife ordered the fish sandwich and it was truly inedible. It was mostly batter that was so crunchy you could barely bite into it. She ordered a side salad and they brought chowder instead. They did eventually bring the salad. I ordered the turkey burger which was ok, and a side of chili which was dark and thick, unlike any chili I have ever had. My granddaughter asked for a second glass of lemonade and by the. time the server brought it we were about ready to leave. I asked for the check, but the bartender/server was obviously overwhelmed so I went to the bar to get the check and to pay the bill. We have been coming to Newport for many years but had never eaten at the GLG. Needless to say, we will never enter the place again.More

Stopped in for lunch with my husband and son. It was pretty busy so we weren't too upset with the long wait for service. She was doing the best she could, they seemed perhaps short-staffed. That being said the order was wrong and she tried...to make it right but it was still wrong. Not that big of a deal but the food was really terrible. I had the lobster tacos, $32, and almost inedible. Virtually no lobster, just a glob of guac on a cold tortilla. My husband got the chili. He couldn't eat it. She offered to take it off the bill but he did eat some so we were fine paying for it. I would just never go back and advise others to look elsewhere.More

HORRIBLE - STAY AWAY It seemed like our waitress kept forgetting about us, which should have been the first sign it wasn't going to be a good experience. We got the NE Style Cod with smashed potato and vegetables and a Cheeseburger and Fries. The...NE Style Cod was COLD and flavorless. The Potato were not smashed, the were broiled yet hard and cold. The broccoli was ok. The entire meal was BAD. The cheeseburger was ok, its hard to screw up a cheeseburger, although the cheese was not melted. The fries were good, warm and crispy.More

Where do I begin Chips arrived with meal Luke warm. The server did get me some more which were very nice. The burger which was supposed to be well done was pink in the middle uncooked. The cheese was not melted on the top or...bun toasted. I sent back for cooking some more. Still raw in middle so just ate edges. We were on a coach trip and had only a certain time. So apart from second attempt of chips which were nice Meal was a disaster . Even coleslaw which should have had dried cranberries in don’t have any in. We were 2 couples asked for separate bills they got that wrong and we had one of their meals on our bill. The place plays loud not so good music. It is a noisy bar Very disappointed based on my experience today I cannot recommend. Oh had to eat chips with fingers he took my utensil away when they went to supposedly cook my burger. A few hours later I had an upset stomachMore

we stopped by for lunch on Labor day. - we were lucky to get seated immediately. - the service was a little slow - i believe it was just 2 waitresses across the entire floor. We did the nachos - which was average. not bad...but not outstanding. My wife had the veggie burger and it was mushy and a mess. Didn't quiet like it. My wife liked her cocktail - cranberry mule - it was well made and I had the local beer brew which was good. My son had the pizza which was decent as well. Lots of food, large portions, average food. There are tons of places to try in the area so nothing that wowed us wanting to come backMore
