Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Read great reviews online and was very impressed with the phone order and pick-up process. They have spots reserved out front, you drive up and they come out with your order. Sadly, it went downhill from there. Steak Frites was ordered medium rare and there...was not a hint of pink to be found. The steak was heavily over-salted. My wife got the lobster carbonara, which was quite bland. The dinner rolls were over-cooked as well and were tough to eat. Maybe we caught them on an off night. Had I been in the restaurant, the steak would have gone back, but not an option on take-out.More

We ate at the American Bistro on our fist night in Newport. Reservation was easily secured and we were taken in on time. The waitress was very friendly and informative. Our food was served in a timely manner. The Lobster Bisque was amazing. Butternut squash...ravioli was delicious. My husband had a salad with blue cheese and gongazola which he enjoyed as well as his fish and chips. We passed on dessert but will probably would order if there was a next time.More

Food and service were very good. We were seated in a area that was an extra space area that was a bit cold. They had a space heater on the ground to help but would have preferred to be in a main dining area. Service...was good as was food. Parking was tricky. Unless you can find street parking (limited) you have to park in strip mall nearby and then you pay restaurant $5 for a parking pass to exit.More

I was in Newport for the first time with my sister and mother to celebrate our mom's 75th birthday. Based on recommendations from TripAdvisor, we made reservations at Jo's and thoroughly enjoyed not only our meal but the service here. We ate upstairs and enjoyed...the prix-fix menu for restaurant week. All three courses were delicious and the prices were so reasonable. If I had anything to nit-pick about, it would be that the lighting was a little dark but not enough to deter anyone from having a lovely experience. The cherry on top was that one in our party walks with a cane and the staff were extremely accommodating and kind with her navigating the stairs.More

Newlyweds here. Celebrating 1 week married with Jo’s. PHENOMENAL. The restaurant week menu was fantastic. Between the lobster cottage fries, swordfish and risotto, and filet with lobster - best meal we’ve eaten in Newport. Joanne, the owner, checked on us and Tracy, was a friendly...and accommodating server. We will definitely be back.More

We heard nothing but good things about Jo’s! I was disappointed though. I ordered clam chowder, while my husband ordered the Bacon Jam Burger. His burger was mediocre and my clam chowder tasted similar to Campbells. I’d be willing to try again and order different...food. The fish and chips looked and smelled great. Should have ordered that.More

We love visiting Jo’s when we are in Newport. The staff is so friendly and warm (especially Tracy!). We started with the duck and lobster quesadilla. Outstanding! My husband needed his Jo’s burger. It never disappoints. I had the pan seared scallops with gnocchi. When...in Newport, get away from the busy downtown and try Jo’s. You’ll love it!More

I'm told the Clam Chowder was great. I had the bowl of Chicken Corn Chowder, and that was phenomenal as well. Most of our group went for the price fixed menu and had plenty to eat. I opted for the Joe's Cheese Burger, which comes...on a Hard Kaiser Roll. The problem was that I ordered it with sautéed onions and mushrooms, and the first bite had me scrambling to hold on as the burger and topping squeazed out the side of the bun. I finally found the need to use a fork and knife. I left more than half the bun on the plate and most of the huge amount of French fries, as I just couldn't finish the huge portion after having the soup. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. 1 side note, if you aren't walking to the restaurant, which is up the hill from the center of town, you have to park at the CVS parking area behind it. This whole lot is metered parking, and Joe's has a deal: They validate for $5, which is cheaper than the lot itself, but remember to expose BOTH codes to be read. Start with the validated code, and when the parking meter asks for your credit card, swipe (or read) the original code.More

Food was good. Had the bacon onion jam burger. No complaints. Enjoyed it. Wife had the fish sandwich. Meh, Ok. Bar tender was great. But let’s talk about why we had to meet the bar tender: we arrived 15 mins early for our reservation. I...even said, we’re early. Happy to wait at the bar, or sit now if you have a table. Hostess said “nope” we’re running right on time. We’ll seat you at 7. We’ll find you in the bar. They did find us at 7 (nice) and seated us promptly—at a table next to the bar that had been open and ready since we arrived. And that’s the part that frustrated me. Knit picking. I know. They sold two extra drinks. Good for them. But now they get their TripAdvisor average busted just a smidge with my 3 stars.More

As an added bonus, my wife was surprised with a crème brûlée as a birthday treat! We will definitely return here!More

It’s not cargo shorts and tee shirts for guys, or crop tops and short shorts for women but it’s not sports jackets for men and Lilly Pulitzer or Eileen Fisher for women. You could pull that off if you wanted to dress.
