We ate here twice during our short visit and were not disappointed on either occasion. Once for breakfast and once for dinner. We did try two other restaurants in town and they were nowhere close to the quality of food and service we received here. We are at another cafe for breakfast one morning and paid about the same amount and the quality and portion were nothing compared to what we received at Theodore’s. Save yourself the money and don’t waste it at other restaurants.

We ate here in June 2012, and were a little disappointed this trip with the wait, menu items, and food preparation. The one hour wait was disappointing as we called ahead to see if we could make a reservation. We were told reservations were only being taken for parties of 8 or more. Realizing that the season is just now opening and everyone has had the COVID-19 situation to deal with, we still felt like the restaurant deserved 4 stars. The service was great, the atmosphere delightful. My husband was SO looking forward to those REALLY large shrimp he ate a few years ago. He was disappointed that they were not on the menu. He had the Pasta Bolognese this trip and thought it was good, but not quite what he expected. I had the prime rib and it was very good. I ordered a side of the mushroom risotto, but it tasted a little over-spiced to me. I had the lobster bisque instead of a salad and it was VERY good. In hindsight, the Walleye was excellent last time, I should have ordered that!

Had hoped to have dinner here the first night of our visit but they were, unfortunately, closed because of a labor shortage. Luckily they reopened the morning of the last day of our visit so we could enjoy a wonderful breakfast before leaving. My husband enjoyed the biggest omelet I have ever seen served and he said it and the sides of breakfast potatoes and pancakes were all delicious. I chose the RumChata French toast, it was beautifully presented, and out of this world delicious. We appreciated the social distancing, the servers wearing masks, and the cleanliness of this beautiful dining room. Our server was great, checked on us often and the service from being seated to ordering and being served was quick. Will definitely be back to eat here again on our next visit to our favorite ND destination.

Very over priced for the food you receive. I had a queen prime and my husband had the bison. Bison was overcooked. My prime rib was cooked correctly but was not very tasty. The horseradish is mixed and leaves out the kick which is pointless. Our bill, came to $77 for TWO entries we didn’t order drinks, no appetizers. Which is ridiculous, at another restaurant we had three beers,an appetizer and two entrees for $80 and it was worth it. Service was excellent. I’d go again for that. But not for the prices.

We were totally disappointed in our recent dining experience at Teddy’s Dining room.
We arrived well before closing time, hoping the dinner rush would be over. We had called earlier in the week before arriving in Medora asking if they take reservations and we were told “only for groups of eight or more” which is understandable. Upon entering the restaurant every table was filled with the exception of one empty table for four marked “reserved”! The hostess, I assume, came and said there was one table left and led us to a booth cut off by a short wall from the rest of the dining room and directly next to swinging doors into the kitchen and across from a small service area.
If you don’t mind feeling secluded and watching service people constantly walking by and going in and out of the swinging doors, this may not be an issue for you. However, in my opinion, there should not be a booth in this particular area at all. It definately does not lend to an appealing experience for fine dining in this lovely dining room.
Our evening went downhill from there. Our waitress appeared rather quickly, and without mentioning her name, plopped down a basket with a few small slices of dry bread, no butter, and asked us if we wanted to order our food right away. We were a little taken aback as normally there is some sort of greeting, an inquiry as to what we might like to drink or have an appetizer to start out with. Needless to say, she made us feel rushed. The food was our biggest disappointment, however. My husband’s salad was “all right” and my lobster bisque was good but barely warm. We both ordered the shrimp dish which was mostly not edible. The six small shrimp, I can buy larger ones at Walmart, topped pimento grits which were so oily that there was oil swimming in the bottom of our plates. Three skinny asparagus, which would have been the highlight of the meal, were barely more then several bites. We could not finish either of our entrees. Our waitress did not arrive again to ask how our dinners were, although she should have been able to tell when she removed our plates, nor did she inquire even once if we would like more to drink. She did mention there was ice cream for dessert but by this point we were just ready to leave. And on the way out we noticed only two people sitting at the “reserved” table !!
My question is what happened to this place, in the past the food has been wonderful. We relunctantly returned for breakfast the next morning as there was no other place open for breakfast and we had a better experience as far as the waiter was concerned but again, food was mediocre. Coffee was barely warm but when mentioned he was quick to bring out hot coffee, which we appreciated. Over medium eggs were cooked hard and three strips of bacon were paper thin and unlike what we have always looked forward to having before when eating breakfast there. We understand costs have risen on food but then we would much rather see an increase in price rather then skimping on food !
We did have a very good dinner just down the street our second night in Medora, delicious steak and many other options on the menu. Not fine dining but just good food with fantastic servers.

We chose the package deal with the Rough Riders Hotel and received a voucher to use around town. We used it to have a special dinner in the Rough Rider Hotel’s Theodore’s Dining Room. This is a lovely restaurant and would be the perfect place to celebrate special occasions. We didn’t have a reservation, but as it was early enough, we were seated right away. We sat in one of their booths.
We started off with a lobster bisque and it was very good. The main course we both selected was the pasta with short rib bolognese and fresh slivers of Parmesan cheese. It was delicious. It was such a generous portion, we each had enough leftover for lunch the next day.
We had a very lovely meal here and we didn’t have to go far as we were staying at the hotel. There is a parking lot on property which is very convenient if you aren't staying at the hotel.
If we ever came back to Medora, we would definitely eat at Theodore’s Dining Room.

Everything was excellent and the service was outstanding. I ate at the bar and everything came out perfectly timed and prepared. I met so many people from all over the country who love great food, great drinks, and real American values and appreciate great service. Want to reconnect with real Americans? Come to Medora during the "off" season

We we’re staying at the hotel for four nights, and came careening into the dining room after an all-day plane flight at 8:40pm given they close at 9:00pm. The staff were warm and welcoming, and we had an excellent server named Cynthia who made our dining experience wonderful.
I had the lobster bisque and beet salad, one son had the Walleye fish, and other son the soup of the day which was corn poblano. Hot bread & butter on the table, and a yummy cocktail to compliment the meal. Everything was delicious, and the staff were a delight.
The dining room itself is really attractive too. A+ on the service, meals, and ambiance - what a treat !
Breakfast was fantastic too, we ate all our meals here each morning.

This was our first meal in Medora the night we got in. It was easy for us as the restaurant was directly under our historic room, the restaurant is the entire first floor of the original hotel building. Everyone enjoyed there food and drinks. I had the Bison Ossobuco which was good with an Old Fashion to drink that went well with the dinner. However, it was the pork belly appetizer that was a favorite of the table. Unlike, another writer, we had great service, a Argentine waiter who had food and drinks coming perfectly. They are currently not taking reservations for tables under 8, but I went downstairs and put our name on the list so we had a table when our entire party arrived. Overall it was a very good meal.

Theodore's offers an elegant and stellar dining experience rom beginning to end. The host or hostess, waiters, waitresses and chefs are top of the line. They work hard to serve their guests as well as making the dining room look clean and beautiful with that cozy, western twist. The food was absolutely incredible and plenteous. The plates coming out of the kitchen look delicious and perfect. The service is beyond 100%.

Arrived at the hotel early evening so had dinner at Theodore’s. Service was excellent and the food very good. Ambiance not so much. While hotel design and esthetics were superior, the restaurant is more like a large cafeteria with few booths. However the ambiance in the bar is much better and serves food, and after the meal we wished we had chosen to sit there.
The next a.m. we had breakfast at Theodore’s. Same ambiance, but the breakfast was incredibly good! Denver omelet with cheddar cheese was large, hot, and fantastic. Hash-browns were great too.

This is Medora’s upscale restaurant. The overall dining experience was very good. The fresh bread with the meal was delicious as it tasted almost like a sweet white bread. I had a beat salad and grilled chicken with a honey mustard sauce. The chicken was dry and my only complaint. I had the cheesecake and brownie and both were delicious. Overall a good time and worth checking out.

The French toast was unique and delicious. First impression was the portion was small but turned out to be very filling. Service was great nice atmosphere. Sides like bacon and sausage and breakfast potatoes were also excellent. Overall great experience. Just a little pricy but to be expected here. Well worth the price.

Medora is an interesting town with a lot to do, whether hiking or visiting historic sites. But there is not a lot of fine dining available. Except for Theodore’s at the Rough Riders Hotel. This hotel restaurant has a remarkably imaginative menu, including bison osso bucco and tenderloin to unusual offerings. Brussel sprouts with a cinnamon honey sauce and many others. If you want fine dining in Medora, try Theodore’s.

Excellent restaurant. We both had walleye in butter sauce over roasted potatoes and asparagus which came with lobster bisque - or other soup choice or salad. Everything was cooked to perfection and was good size portions. Highly recommend while visiting Medora.
