Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On our first night in Franz Josef, our small group of seven was a bit late to the game as far as dinner plans. A few of the restaurants right in the small "downtown" were packed, so I ran up the road a bit to...check to see if Blue Ice was still open. There were no outdoor diners so my expectations of availability were low, but upon entering, the manager (I confess that I never got his name), was quite welcoming and warmly stated that they would still serve us. I ran back down, got the group to follow, and what ensued was a lovely, relaxed dinner for the seven of us which included great food, friendly and fast service, and (most importantly), a sense that we did NOT have to rush out. I cannot recall exactly what I ordered, but as a vegetarian, I was able to secure a healtful meal along with stellar red wine...and that is what matters most! Thank you so much to the (unnamed) manager who turned what could have been a disaster into a memorable evening for all seven of us!!!More

The mocktails and beer options were exceptional and priced right. We had the Waldorf salad and stir fried prawns with vegetables and it was delicious. The salad was the best I have ever had. The restaurant is at the end of the main drag and...probably gets missed. We had dinner and breakfast at other places in town but this was by far the best. Highly recommended.More

First time having Sisig in my life, and wow that was mind blowingly good. If only we stayed at Franz Josef longer I would’ve tried their whole menu

Started off great with a delicious starter (gnocci) but the rest was rather disappointing, one of the mains, my pizza, was burnt on the bottom, as we found out later for the second time. Other main was average, not bad but not great, desserts were...average as well. Service was friendly but unprofessional and slow. Overall not the worst, but not pleasing either.More

Loved our dinner here, we came back the next nite as the pizza and fried rice looked and smelt lovely. Quite busy when we were here and the waiter JM was lovely. Keep up the great work.

Although Franz Josef is on the quiet side tonight, we liked the look of the menu here so gave it a go. The food was great and the serving sizes were large. Staff were friendly. Had dessert too, also good

We enjoyed a lovely meal here on a cold and rainy evening at the end of April. Happily they even had organic white wine by the glass which is the only type my husband can drink. We shared the tastiest mussels in a creamy thai...spiced coconut sauce. I tried the traditional Philippines pork dish which was delicious. A takeaway box ( not plastic👍) was cheerfully provided for the pizza my husband couldn’t finish - it was a small size so plenty big enough for one or even two with small appetites. Then came the reason why everyone staying in Franz Josef should support this restaurant. I was so busy finding the umbrella and my jacket that I stupidly left my handbag on the back of the seat. When I returned 20 /30 minutes later to collect it, the restaurant was closed and I couldn’t raise anyone. I returned to my hotel in a panic - my entire life was in that little bag- credit cards, debit cards, driving licence, passport - the lot! I tried phoning but no answer, sent emails but held out little hope - I knew that they would be closed for the whole of the next day. I sent a message through Facebook. Then suddenly there was a knock on the door and a knight in shining armour stood there brandishing my handbag. What a wonderful service, to come out on a cold wet night and deliver my bag personally. Thank you Chris and the kind people of the Blue Ice Restaurant and Bar who saw my Facebook message and responded immediately. You truly are angels - what wonderful customer service. I will always be grateful.More

We decided to give it a try as the menu looked interesting and reviews were good. My wife had the lamb shank which she enjoyed. I was a bit more adventurous and had the pork cheek which was very tasty and then splashed the boat...out and had the Grand Marnier Mud pudding with cream and ice cream. WowMore

A lovely restaurant in the heart of town. We were pleased we went early as it got busy but when it was quiet the service was pretty average. The starters of garlic bread and Camembert were good and the beef cheek main dish was lovely....It was great to taste Filipino food. Unfortunately the two pork dishes were quite average and salty. I have scored this a 3 as we were disappointed with the service when we first arrived, the wine was just left on the table and we weren’t asked for any more drinks during the service, had to wait to pay the bill on the way out and the pork dishes were pretty ordinary.More

The service was great, and the food a bit surprising: good Filipino food in Franz Josef? I had the Adobo which was beautifully prepared. We also had Franz Josef Sunset cocktails since it was sunset, and our last night there. We liked being able to...eat outside, shielded from the main road.More
