Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited for dinner and got the Tiger fried rice which is a vegetarian option with tofu, pineapple, vegetables and cashews. Overall was very bland. Menu was very extensive, prices reasonable based on US standards, and staff was nice. I doubt I would return: would probably...try another restaurant.More

This is like ‘Chinese Food’ circa 1970. Remember Kantong sauces you could buy in the supermarket. Well, they charged $30 for something like that. Chili prawns were coated, fried and then served in a thick orange sauce. The stir fried beef was awful. Having said...that, the pork dumplings were nice and the spring rolls OK. Could do better.🥺More

Eight of us had dinner. Fast service, attentive staff who were very professional, lovely atmosphere. Meals were very good. Didn’t know how they’d be with three different country of origin meals, but they pulled it off. I had Lamb Korma (hot) which was very good....But the best meal was the Pork Belly. It was excellent.More

I was a little sceptical about an Asian restaurant that served Chinese, Indian and Thai food in the same place but I needn't have worried - the food and service was superb. My wife and I visited King Tiger twice - once for a purely...Chinese meal and then on the second visit we had vegetable samosas, a chicken tikka masala and a masaman beef curry all of which were excellent. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant.More

I was really needing a good curry and King Tiger did not disappoint. We sat on the veranda, under cover and heated, which was great as it was pouring with rain! I had the Saagwalla with paneer and my wife had the sweet and sour...pork. Both were excellent, it being a rare display in my opinion of being able to serve great tasting food from two very different culinary regions. Service was very good and attentive despite it being very busy. I would recommend this restaurant if you fancy an Asian meal of any description.More

My friend and I had a lovely dinner, but what happened after needs to be praised. A couple of days later, by which time I was in Christchurch, I realised that I had left my wallet at the restaurant. Jommie, the duty manager, has excelled...in her response to this. Upon locating it, she communicated promptly with me and has since posted it back to Australia. Thanks so much, Jommie. I’ll always remember your restaurant.More

We have just arrived in Franz Josef and the weather is atrocious. So decided on take away from King Tiger Eastern Eating House & Bar We ordered food including Popadoms, the chap that served me said 4 Poppadoms, I said yes because that is what...shows on the menu, but being half asleep after a long drive only realised when I got back we had 4 x 4 poppadoms which I was charged for. I feel that I ve been conned. Won't eat there while we are in Franz Josef. Hopefully no else will get conned by this restaurant.More

We strolled past here in the afternoon and were drawn in by the happy hour sign. We had their ‘Tigeress’ cockails on the HH special – pink gin, peach schnapps, strawberry and lime. A nice taste of summer. While there is a big range of...different Asian cuisines, we went with some Indian options in the hope that we’d get a bit of heat. We asked the waiter if we could have the spice level as “medium heat in India, not NZ medium.” He assured us that it would be hot, but it tasted mild to us. The flavours themselves were nice in the vegetable jalfrezi and saag paneer, and the garlic roti was delicious. It’s a good place to start with happy hour and snacks and move into dinner. Also a good option to cater to a group who can’t all agree on which Asian cuisine to go with, cause they pretty much have it all! BONTAKS TRAVELSMore

Fantastic food and atmosphere. We ate the butter prawns and lamb korma - both were really good. Beers were great & service was attentive without being pushy. Great place- we will be back.

Who knew that you could successfully blend Chinese, Indian and Thai cuisine? King Tiger figured out a formula that works. We had an excellent dinner from a menu that honestly had too many choices. We ate a la carte but there was a long line...for buffet line. If you are in Franz Josef around mealtime, it is worth a visit.More

With a fire pit in the front, it was obvious they had put a lot of thought into their image. The interior was even better - black and red in a relaxed but classy looking space. First came cocktails - a pineapple based one for...me and a Tom Collins for my partner - both were lush. We ordered spring rolls (has to be done!); chicken and cashew nuts for my partner and Mapo Tofu for me. When the dishes came out, they were huge! Plus complementary rice on the side! Both were so flavourful and expertly put together. Mine was hot and spicy, just how I like it and there was a lovely contrast between the crunchy vegetables in the rich sauce and the silken tofu. My partner ate every bit of his! The service was wonderful - everyone was lovely - and the prices very reasonable. Highly recommended.More

The outside looked interesting, the inside decor was lovely…. Except for the weird loudish music. There was obviously a group booking so we sat on bar stools in the window, that’s ok, what’s not is the outside eating area where smoking is allowed??? With a...glass sliding door into the main restaurant, so every time that door opened we were hit with cigarette smoke!! Average food, I had the stir fried vegetables, the sauce was tasteless, my husband had sweet & sour pork, rated as average. This is not a cheap place to eat so we expected much more.More
