Lovely setting and good service for our meal the night before starting the Rail Trail. Risotto was huge and I couldn’t finish it. My companion had the lamb cooked 3 ways and reported it was delicious. We ordered potatoes done in duck fat, but were so full we hardly ate them. The bread with dips was fabulous and probably explains why we couldn’t eat the potatoes.

Oliviers continues to live up to its iconic status. A very busy lunchtime and the lovely attentive staff found us a table served us drinks (in house brewery English bitter for the Mr and a coffee and sparkling water for me) and took our food orders very quickly. Food was yummy and came quickly. Whole experience great - even the unlockable women’s toilet didn’t put me off.

My wife and I had traveled up to Central Otago and took our youngest son and his partner out for dinner at Oliver's. We initially decided on sharing the house baked sourdough bread and the selection of dips. The loaf was big enough to provide plenty of slices to share and the three dips proved interesting.. For my main I chose the lamb rump which was beautifully cooked. My wife chose the mushroom risotto which she enjoyed too. Our son's partner had that too and enjoyed it equally. Our son had the venison. Everyone agreed that all the mains were well cooked and presented. For dessert the ladies chose the creme brulee while the gentlemen had the blueberry cake and ice cream. Again the desserts were declared to be very enjoyable.. The restaurant was very busy which was a surprise in some respects because it was a Tuesday evening. There was certainly a good atmosphere about the place and the service was attentive. An enjoyable evening.

We may have just chosen the wrong night but from the initial impression of a lovely restaurant we found the service was incredibly slow and quite frankly irritating. The waitress was lovely but clearly overwhelmed by the number of covers that evening. My meal was terrific but my wife was disappointed with her steak meal as it was swimming in a gravy that was not clearly stated on the menu. The steak itself was cooked beautifully. The wine we ordered arrived towards the end of the meal, we were offered free coffee but by that time were so disappointed we just paid and left. This is an expensive restaurant where you expect better.

Our experience started poorly with staff avoiding eye contact when we walked in the door. Not a great start, even though we had a booking. 15 minutes after placing our order for the table of four, the waitress then came back to tell us that two of our orders could not be filled because they had run out of pork belly. When our meals arrived, they were sub standard. The lamb dish was luke warm, and the meat just tasted fatty. The venison was 80% vegetables and every dish had a very similar sauce. The service was erratic especially as it was a Monday. The other thing that we found interesting was that no one actually asked if we were happy with our meals? Then while we were sitting there (right by the service area), we noticed that other meals were being taken out to a large group, and the meals looked very different to what we were served?

Have been to Oliver’s many times and always been pleased but this visit failed at so many levels. Food quality sadly was no better than average, and given the higher end prices not good enough. I do not want to watch you serve to plate from Tupperware dishes, nor do I want to feel hurried by the speed of the courses. This was no more than perfunctory. The joy that went into meal preparation in the past felt like, and certainly tasted like it had gone. Not again.

We had luch at Olivers today and decided to sit in the restaurant rather than the cafe. There was no armosphere, it was cold, the fire wasnt on, the heaters werent on. An unsmiling waitress came over, didnt know the pie of the day, didnt know the soup of the day. The wait staff seemed very dis-organised. When the food was ready, we eventually had to go up to the open kitchen and get our own meal. It looked like the staff had had no training, however, the staff should automatcally welcome customers with a hello and a smile. In these unsettled time, each restaurant should be at the top of their game. The food was very nice (except for the tomato rissotto). Very disappointed.

We thought the food was poor quality for the price, and not attractively presented. My partner had pork belly and his serving mainly comprised fat and virtually no meat. I had a fish dish that was very salty and looked really unappealing as it was swimming in liquid. No one commented on the fact that two of the people in our party left most of their meal. Very disappointing.

Best meal we’ve had this year in New Zealand. Oliver’s came highly recommended by friends who are locals and our meals were gorgeous. The beetroot slaw was more of a salad but it was original and highly satisfying. The beef filet was as lovely as described, the crispy skin salmon sat on a brilliant risotto and the Eton Mess dessert was surprisingly rich in texture and taste. The service was casual but attentive. A perfect evening, enhanced by stunning weather. Not to be missed.

We have been here several times over the last year, most recently on Sunday evening for dinner. We hadn’t booked but after a short wait in the bar, with time for a drink while we considered the menu, were quickly shown to our table. The restaurant is a lovely setting for informal dining and our visitors from Scotland loved it. The food exceeded our expectations, and theirs (lamb rump was perfectly cooked and the hare leg pasta outstanding). Good wine selection, friendly service, good coffee to finish and a very reasonable bill....what more could you want?

Recently we took the time to spend a few days at Olivers in Clyde as it was my wifes birthday when we arrived we were met by Dave who showed us to our room (The Smokehouse were we impressed or what.... it was fantastic) The room was well first class bathroom was tiled very clean and warm . A novel touch was that there was a bath(Old claw foot style ) in the bedroom this was impressive and was a feature Plenty of towels and soaps .Double french doors opened up to the well manicured lawn was magic. From 3pm to 6.30pm on weekends there is a band who play in the courtyard and the song list meets all taste very enjoyable having a Pilsner and a wine in the sun enjoying the ambiance. The meals were first class with a huge selection and the wine list was compatable and matched our mains. Service was first class and the table staff were very personable and friendly. Breakfast is a treat in the "Long Room"you have to experience this for yourself food top notch This destination is a must and we will be back. Also Olivers is Dog Friendly we met a couple from Dunedin who bring their dog to Olvers when they come to stay,,, our Pug will be a guest next time.

We had a beautiful meal at Olivers. My younger daughter had steak from the children menu. As much care went into her childrens meal as went into an adult meal- I’m not sure we have ever experience this before! My elder daughter had pork belly. It came with Kumara and sprouts which she usually won’t eat- but she cleared the plate. I had salmon and it was just lovely. The desserts were absolutely perfect! And such fun with all of the different elements to each. It was the best way to end our trip to central Otago. Special thanks to Manisha our waitress, she was friendly, knowledgeable, professional - an all round credit to the restaurant. Thank you for the memories, we will be back.

Sunday brunch with family was made all the better by my daughter's choice of venue. Nice surroundings in an interesting setting, good food, great coffee, friendly staff and great atmosphere obviously adds to why this place was busy. The one glitch though was the over salting of one meal by the chef, seasonings are IMO a personal taste and should be added by the individual eating their meal, not enforced by prior application.

We had a wonderful dinner here during the 2021 deluge of January 2-3. This is a brewery and bar, and very well done up as a restaurant. Staff squeezed us in at 6pm. The food was plentiful and delicious (we had the panzanella salad entree, which was easily enough for two, and the crispy salmon and the beef ribeye). Leave room for desert: the lemon posset is out of this world, but so is the coconut, almond, blueberry cake.

We had dinner here during our stay in Clyde. We wanted to sit for a while and have a slow dinner and the wait staff were very accommodating. There was no rush to put our order through to the kitchen so we could sit and relax, drink our wine with our bread and dips. Our meal was a generous portion and beautifully cooked and seasoned. I would highly recommend eating here.
