We had dinner here two nights ago and were very impressed by our main courses. I have the fish which was delicious and my husband loved his lamb dish. We were a bit disappointed by our dessert which was the bomb Alaska. This had a...nice flavour but only had a very tiny amount of very icy sorbet under the meringue and no sponge.More

The first place we went too was so busy we went for a drive and found the Wharf St Bistro. Friendly service, nice menu. Both had the Pate for entree which was beautifully smooth. Partner had the very yummy fish tacos and I had sliders...The portobello mushroom and blue cheese was DIVINE!More

Underwhelming after an amazing recommendation. The waitress started by spilling someone’s used finger bowl on my fingers, cutlery and clothing. Ok - mistakes happen but my cutlery wasn’t replaced until after my meal arrived. I had the lamb shoulder which was ok - a lovely...sauce and the lamb was lovely apart from some fatty lumps. Feta and lamb is a great combination. My friend had mussels for a starter which she said were a bit overcooked but not too bad. Her main was pork belly. The dish came with mashed potato but there was no sauce. She said the meat was dry and tough. The crackling looked amazing but when she tasted it, she said she could taste that it had been cooked in a deep fryer separate to the pork, and she could taste fish and chips and the other foods that had been cooked there in the crackling. We did share our feelings as politely as possible and it was well received by the staff. The cost of one of the two glasses of wine we’d had was taken off the bill without us asking which was a nice gesture. Everybody has off nights - it’s difficult to know after one visit if that was just one of those.More

So glad to have come across this "bistro" which turned out to be a top restaurant... We were shown to a table in the lower section looking a bit like a sunroom with windows opening onto the river. Stylish interior - a mixture of elegance...(dark wooden tables, elegant rope chairs, mirrors, plants) and casual style with bright colours and witty objects. The staff was friendly commenting on the menu and giving recommendations as to the wine. We ordered our first green-lipped mussels followed by risotto and pan-seared fish and decided on NZ Chardonnay. The food was great - nothing to be criticised in the least... This place is worth a visit!More
