We have been here many times and have had good meals but this time we were disappointed in the meals and were given empty sauce containers on the plates, by the time we received them the meal was almost finished. Wait Staff seemed stressed and under pressure. In the past there have been a lot of options for Gluten free as a coeliac but these were almost all gone this time.

Visited for dinner as a single couple. Nice lively restaurant with a good humming atmosphere. Bar and dining table format with option to eat inside or outside terrace. Attentive and friendly staff and fairly quick service. Being near the se we both had fish dishes which were nicely cooked and well presented. My wife had a lemon posset dessert which turned out to be quite large and unusually included ice cream, which I benefitted from! There was nothing not to like and the the cost was NZ$105 including a couple of glasses of wine. Very good value.

We often go to Manaia on Tuesday for their Curry Night, and Thursday for their Steak Night specials. The full menu is very good, but those special nights are very well priced, so we can go more often !! Friendly service, plus the best food & wine list in Tairua. Recommended.

We came here on a Sunday night for a little birthday dinner, we weren’t too hungry so we just ordered 3 sliders between us for $21, a bowl of chips for $9 and a jug of beer for $36, the young guy serving is was really good and polite and we were brought our sliders and they gave us 3 plates of x2 sliders on each thinking it was a little bit odd but obviously good value for the money, as they were still quite small but really tasty. However we got to the counter to pay and it came to $99, not taking any notice and thanking them for our meal we got to the car and checked the receipt and thought that it didn’t sound quite right, so my partner went back inside to question the bill and the young guy apologised and agreed that we got ripped off, and went to get his manager, the manager came over and had such an attitude and basically said “you guys ordered it, you ate it and you have to pay for it” my partner tried to explain that it’s definitely not what we ordered and they were so rude about it, they continued to blame us when they clearly messed up our order. Not wanting to make a scene in front of other people. They ended up refunding us $6 as they actually charged us $18 per plate instead of $16. We would have been fine if they just explained to us what their policy was or what not, instead the attitude and rudeness from management was absolutely disgusting, we will never go back here nor recommend anyone else, worst customer service we have ever experienced from a restaurant. I would give this a zero star if possible but they are lucky the food wasn’t half bad.

Passing through on a road trip. Tairua a smallish town, so expectation was adjusted to that. SURPRISE. This restaurant was first-rate; we ate beautifully prepared and cooked food, were given fast and friendly (but professional) service, and thought our bill showed very good value. Just highly recommend this as a good experience.

Stopped in on our way through Tairua. It was a busy, sunny day and the staff were pleasant but clearly understaffed. We grabbed a table from a couple leaving but ended up having to clear and wipe it down ourselves. The table next to us ended up with several seagulls on it eating left over food so my husband and another patron cleared the table to get rid of them. Food came out reasonably quickly and was pleasant but $25 for 10 steamed mussels and a piece of bread seemed a bit steep, compared to most other Kiwi establishments I have ordered them in. On the other hand the chicken burger and chips was a huge meal and very tasty according to others at our table.

Most restaurants on any particular day can pull a success out of the hat. What makes a truly fine restaurant is the ability to perform consistently well. We were in Tairua for a week and our first visit was so good that we simply came back again and again during the course of our stay. No matter what we had to eat or drink, all of it was well produced. I will make special mention of their fish & chips, wood fired pizzas and the afogatos were to die for. They also had a good sampling of craft beers created by an enthusiastic bunch of brewers 10 minutes up the road from the premises. In this regard I would make special mention of Tristan, one of the waiters who provided excellent, cheerful table service and was able to give brilliant recommendations about the local beers. No matter what the time of day there was always a buzzing, relaxed atmosphere about the place. A wonderful and friendly place to come to in the middle of summer. At especially busy times it is worth making sure that you make a reservation so as not to be disappointed. All the staff are friendly and helpful and the chef out the back is clearly on top of his game. Well done everyone. I look forward to coming back again next time I'm in Tairua.

Ordered two meals , only got one. When we asked where second meal was they said they’d got the order wrong and would refund us. So hubby left without lunch. Not a happy camper. Wouldn’t go back. It seemed very disorganised and no one really knew what was going on

The staff were so slammed and still seemed to have a smile on their faces - they knew that there was a bit of a wait on food and drinks which they were upfront and apologetic about. We didn’t mind waiting with the great service.l that we received. Food was great too! There was a Surcharge but what do you expect on a public holiday!? Would definitely recommend.

On a busy Sunday evening in January 2020, with no booking, this great cafe & bar found a table for our group of 9 with just a short wait, and then looked after us splendidly. The food was reasonably quick to arrive, everyone got what they'd ordered and it was all delicious. Fresh, cooked to perfection and delicious. Will definitely be back!

We were looking for a coffee as we travelled through Tairua and we were pleased we found this place - not a cafe as such. We enjoyed a cheese scone and a tasty sweet muffin with a great long black coffees. They were serving breakfast when we stopped in but also had a selection of sweet/savoury cabinet food. Friendly staff - would return next time we pass through.

Ate here this evening. Hadn’t booked and it was busy but we’re told to take a seat at the bar, we would be next to be sat. People left, table cleared, then taken by people just walking in and seeing empty table. Andrea ( duty manager) tried to explain to group table was for us but they weren’t having it. Happened twice more. Finally got sat. 10 mins later had to ask for menu. Ordered food, starter came out in 10mins. Another 50mins after finishing starter and watching people who were sat after us getting served, we had to chase. They apologised, said it was being cooked now, clearly our order had been misplaced. Couple outside, sat after us, had there starter, then the special of the day came out for her, but she had finished it before his Pizza came out. This happened on at least one other table. All this said, cannot fault the food when it arrived, both mains well presented and full of flavour. Staff were polite but under pressure. The place was heaving so I do not suppose they will be to worried about my review but it is a good setting, great atmosphere, they just need to work on the final delivery.

This was the only place open on Wednesday night for dinner and we were so pleased it was. The food and service could not be faulted. We started with little tacos. Lovely spicy salad under the fish and chicken. Mains we had fish of the day served with baby potatoes and vegetables which was well cooked and tasty. The other had a calamari salad. It was soooo good. Tender calamari with a really nice salad with little bursts of sweetness. Desserts were also amazing. We had macaroons and Panna cotta. The meal sizes were not small but very filling and a nice size. Pleasant and attentive service and meals came out with very little wait time. Highly recommended.

Courteous and obliging staff, delicious food but really disappointed when lunching there on Thursday 11 March that they allow smoking in the restaurant. Two grey haired women and a slightly younger man were smoking while we were there. When I mentioned my concern to the manager, a pleasant and obliging woman, she was obviously embarrassed, but explained they were locals who ‘pulled rank’, and when told they couldn’t smoke there spoke of their friendship with the owner and said they would complain to him. Despite this bullying of young women these locals had been supplied with ashtrays, and allowed to continue smoking. I sincerely hope such behaviour is not typical of the locals in Tairua but needless to say it certainly stopped 4 of us from going there for a meal the next evening. And to the owner of Manaia - support of your young staff against such unpleasant locals is vital.

Arrived and waited at gate to be seated (should have left after waiting for 10 min to even be acknowledged however we had 2 adults and 4 kids very hungry). Finally got served then waited 45 min (not very busy). $16 for 2 frozen kids nuggets and some chips. Soggy frozen calamari no lemon. Jerk chicken wings … no jerk and slimy fat on top with wing tips still attached. Juices never arrived ( although still charged once we went to pay). Asked for lemon for calamari and got brought half a lemon in hand with pips throughout. Never once did we get an apology about the wait or condition of food. Waitress’s bickering amongst themselves and to boot not masks at till or being worn properly for service. Never have I written a review but I am absolutely disgusted if this is what tourists or locals are being met with!
