Great coffee, great muffins and scones. The Blue Cheese Tart was good with Salad and the Carrot Cake was good anytime. The service was especially good in the mornings but tending to deteriorate with the influx of people. Sometimes orders were mixed up and people had some long waits for food and drink. The location is excellent and there is always plenty to see out the windows.

We looked at a few cafes to have lunch at but settled on this one. It had a lovely setting. We were a family of 3, 2 are vegans but there was something available for everyone. My daughter ordered the vegan curry and said it was the best she has had and she has eaten a lot of curries. It had so much flavour. Service and food coming out was a little slow despite a few staff on. I went to order an ice cream but had to wait awhile (no queue) and in the end an older gentleman came out to serve me and a younger waiter watched what to do! Recommend

Brunch menu not extensive, the usual choices. However their cheese scones just arrived out of the oven when we got there and looked delicious and they were yummy. Crunchy on the outside, oozy fluffy on the inside. The husband asked for poached eggs on grain with tomato and kransky sausage. Not on menu but they kindly accommodated him. Eggs superb, kransky undercooked, tomatoes nice. Coffee superb

Had morning tea which was so good we stayed on for lunch! Coffee was great as was the always delicious caramel cake and lemon tart. The atmosphere was busy but the staff were attentive and switched on which is brilliant for a beach place over Christmas. For lunch the kids had cheese toasty and kids pasta from the children’s menu. I had mushroom risotto which was heavenly! Wife had seafood salad which was the meal of the day and enjoyed by all. Would recommend to all!!

Lovely welcome during L2 lockdown - this cafe was recommended by another cafe that was only doing takeaway coffees - which we thought was a good sign. Very yummy Eggs Florentine with home made Hash Browns and the service was outstanding. A welcoming cafe in a lovely setting with really nice people - can’t ask for more on a Sunday morning.

We enjoyed a very enjoyable lunch here. The staff were friendly, the food was tasty and there was quite a good choice. As well, they have a small deli where you can buy meats and cheeses etc for self-catering, and good coffee.

We walked in to the cafe unsure where the counter was. Eventually we found it, ordered eggs florentine and a large flat white. The food quickly arrived - eggs were well over cooked, and the hollandaise was pretty bland. This was the better half of the experience, the coffee arrived 10min after finishing my eggs and was searing hot, and baaaaaaad with a thin scummy layer of bubbles on top. Needed 2 sugars to be drinkable. Please do some barista training.

Looking for a place to eat, it was a case of stumbling over the Old Mill Café as its some way from town. A lovely old style place, good service and great food. We found a lovely table outside in the shade (it was a boiling hot day) and were able to enjoy the bird life that abounds. We ordered the Salmon Quiche (2) and the Corn Stack plus a side salad- all three dishes were delicious. Good coffee and we were unable to resist the fruit strudel which had just been taken out of the oven-yummy indeed! A very restful and peaceful place.

We had a fabulous celebration dinner at The Old Mill cafe in Tairua last nite. We had the whole venue to ourselves and Michelle and her team guided us through the entire event from bubbles and nibbles at 5pm to a 3 course meal until late. The event was well organised and it was a neat family occasion for 36 people. The dinner was beautiful.

I was so looking forward to returning to the old mill for a fabulous coffee and food but sadly I was so disappointed. It was busy when we arrived but were told it was a half hour wait for coffee and food. We made the choice to wait. By the time we got to counter to order we were informed it was a 45 min to hour wait. Again we had already been there 20 mins so decided to persevere. Over an hour later and the cups from the previous people hadn’t been cleared from our table and still no drinks for us! We noticed the coffee machine had been quiet for a while and it was no longer that busy so asked why no one was making coffee yet ours were still not here. Another 10 mins and finally they arrived. 1, 1/2 hours after arriving our food arrived and was nice but my meal was absent! Luckily we enquired when the rest of my group were half way through food and nine had been missed so they offered me a free coffee for the inconvenience! I declined as the last one took so long and was average when it arrived. My food arrived finally and was very average again. So disappointed as not what I have experienced before. Such a shame and a lot of it probably could have been avoided if the staff had prioritised the work. The barista when that busy should not be making smoothies and taking dinks out when to other staff were available! We were not the only ones with issues another couple waited an hour for a slice of cake to take away!

Been a few times recently and the wait time has aways been a bit too long for the amount of people in the cafe. Even for cabinet food which make completely no sense. Recently got poached eggs which were more like boiled eggs. But the coffee is always great but that is all I would for go now.

We called in for brunch and really enjoyed perfectly cooked Eggs Florence. Nigel new owner/ chef and Michelle are fantastic hosts. The Old Mill Cafe is really worth calling in for their breakfast / lunch and coffee. They also have a great range of craft beers snd wines. Highly recommend 😊

Meeting friends, chose Old MILL Waterfront Cafe, Tairua - gorgeous seaviews, opposite the glorious beach. Light & spacious, casual ambience (indoor/outdoor tables); busy, delicious meals, especially the fish, great eaterie. Counter food looked tempting also, next time. (I have gait/walking challenges (stroke), wear a legbrace.) First time there, service great, we'll be back.

We stumbled across this wee beauty while checking out the marina. What a find! The cabinet food was mouth watering home made goodness. Our brunch was great, so great we then enjoyed sweets. Well done and thank you for a wonderful experience.
