Haven't visited Zara for a couple of years or so. Unfortunately this most recent experience was rather underwhelming on the food front. Poppodums were delivered without any dips and had to prompt waiter for these, which were rather average when delivered and in small portions. The main courses however were the low point. Mine was acceptable but not something you'd make a point of ordering again. My partner's main course was, and I quote, "the worst curry I've had in twenty years". We felt prices were high in the light of what was being provided. We won't be going back.

Fantastic Dining Experience at Zara Indian Dining Zara Indian Dining in Bishop’s Stortford is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy, inviting ambiance. The decor strikes a perfect balance between modern elegance and traditional charm, setting the stage for a memorable meal. The menu is incredibly diverse, offering a wide range of authentic Indian dishes alongside some innovative options for those looking to try something new. Each dish we ordered was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The spices were perfectly balanced, and the freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and happy to make recommendations based on our preferences. Their genuine passion for ensuring a great dining experience truly stood out. A particular highlight for us was the butter chicken—rich, creamy, and perfectly spiced. The naan bread was soft and freshly baked, and the lamb rogan josh was cooked to perfection. The dessert menu was also a treat, with the kulfi providing a refreshing end to the meal. Zara Indian Dining is not just a restaurant; it’s an experience. Whether you’re a fan of Indian cuisine or trying it for the first time, this place won’t disappoint. Highly recommended for a date night, family dinner, or any special occasion! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thought I loved this restaurant but was disappointed with our last visit as the service was poor. Had to ask for cutlery for main meal which took a while whilst food was getting cold. Nobody asked if we wanted more drinks & once we managed to find someone to order we waited an age to get them and had finished our meal. No pleasantries or customer service. Food not as great as I remembered. My son had to ask for chopped chillies as his curry had an over powering flavour of mint & apart from that was bland. Again the chillies took an age to arrive. Slightly disappointed and we had gone for a birthday celebration.

Lets start by saying simply awful in every respect. Walked in on a Thursday night and was asked if we had a reservation in a manner that would lead one to think you have no chance of getting a table without one and they were doing us a favour to let us in! Plenty of empty tables and once shown to ours the clueless waiter just walked off not even ask us if we wanted drinks. 15 minutes later the waiter asked if we would like some poppadoms, no mention of drinks so we called him back to order those. 15 minutes later the poppadoms arrived but not drinks so we asked aagin. Just started tucking in to the pops and the starters arrived but still no drinks so we asked again. Mixed starter excellent but side salad ols so did not touch those. Prawn Puree awful, tiny little prawns and the smallest puree ever. Mains arrived, chicken Sag overly dry even though generally a dry dish. Chicken Dansak awful, tough chicken and chickpeas blended to a grainy texture, awful. Lamb dish OK, not the best lamb and over done. Above all though, the service was shocking, worst we have ever experienced anywhere. Three waiters clueless, seemingly no head waiter, and other diners were looking over their shoulder constantly trying to attract their attention. Way overpriced for quality of food which is average at best. 3 starters, 3 mains, 2 rice, 1 lemonade, 1 small 330ml bottle of beer and a pint just under £100. ( no breads, sides or deserts ) Only time the waiter asked if the food was good was at the point we were paying the bill! Needless to say we did not give them a tip and he seemingly got the hump. The best tip we can give is to be more welcoming, learn how to be a waiter and get a better chef. Will not be going back as far better options in Bishops Stortford.

Spent ages waiting to be seated, conveniently told to have a seat in the bar area where we were charged £20 for two drowned G&Ts. If we’d not seen them put the gin in, would have questioned it on tasting! Finally being seated at the table was an act of a contortionist to be able to squeeze between the other tables. We felt we were part of the party sat on one side of us they were so close. The other side equally so but they were quiet. We had to move the table any time to get up and others had to move to let us get out. The menu is very limited with no indication of whether a dish is going to be mild or molten! I ordered something that sounded quite in the middle that I’d never heard of before and effectively got a very bland kind of lamb korma with some orange peel on top. My partners dish was equally bland and we both left more than half. For the prices they charge they sure don’t spend any on actual spices and I would have loved a chemist to analyse my dish to find the saffron content! Too many tables packed too close together, mediocre food, miserable staff and charging West End London prices.. 2 G&Ts; 2 popadoms; 2 main courses; 1 plain rice and 1 flat bread £60 No siree, most certainly will not be going back to this disappointment.

The Sunday lunch offer is great value and the food was delicious. We ordered loads of vegetable sides and all were beautifully spiced, a really nice change from the usual one meat curry and rice. A lovely meal for the family and the kids really enjoyed the lighter curries. So much that we could not finish it all and had the rest as takeaway the following day :)

I havent reviewed anywhere in ages and I suppose I only tend to if the experience was to the extreme. Sadly last night we had a poor experience at Zara. Havent been for a few years and apparently it has changed hands. Not sure if they were short staffed or overbooked. We were only offered drinks once all evening. Trying to get a jug of tap water wasn’t easy. The food was all cooked in a lot of butter/oil. I ordered a shashlik which is usually quite a dry dish. It was swimming in oil/butter. Mixed grills were too and the okra had to be sent back because of the oil. What happened to Asian food being so healthy?

Very disappointed with our visit ok Friday, some staff were very rude and couldn’t even smile or give eye contact. Waiter threw my cutlery down on the table and ignored my husband when he asked for a drink. Starters were good but the main biryani wasn’t flavourless. They only bought 1 side curry instead of 3. Portions were a good size though.

I went mid-week with a group of friends and the service was very poor with long periods in between being given attention. I ordered a Lobster-based main meal which came with two croquettes that were frozen in the centre (when I eventually received my meal that arrived after everyone else's and when everyone else had nearly finished their respective meals!). When we received the bill, it was very expensive and certainly did not reflect the poor quality of the service and food. My advice; try elsewhere: there are much better and cheaper restaurants in the Bishop's Stortford area.

Visited saturday night with my partner. Meal was disappointing. My partners beer had dried food in the glass, so had to return. I had chicken and parts of it were uncooked and drenched in oil. My partners food also chicken was chilli heat but bland no flavour. A shame as a lovely restaurent with good decor. We haven’t been her here for a while since moving out of Bishop’s Stortford but it does seem that it’s gone downhill. Such a shame.

It was if the chef had left his spices at home. I have never had such a bland and tastless Indian meal. The vegetable samosa was unseasoned vegetables in a thick pastry , it was more like a cornish pasty. The main couses tasted bland with no spices or seasoning what so ever . All I could taste was tomato, plain tomato. The service was okay, not the best .Absolutely dreadful and never again.

Tasteless and bland food delivered cold!! Wow.. very rarely rate anything as a 1 or 2 star, but Zara seem to have convinced me on this occasion. We ordered a takeaway tonight for the first time from this restaurant and we really had a bad experience. The only reason 2 stars was achieved was down to the delivery time being reasonable. Sadly, we are actually an Indian family who has good taste and an understanding of the spices and flavours this restaurant should try to deliver. They are catering only for people who may not have that understanding and its a real shame, and bad for the reputation of good quality Indian restaurants everywhere :-( Oh well, £50 down the drain and resorting to chicken nuggets (which have more flavour :-)

Love Zara. Our go to for eating in & takeaway. The food is great, I’m really (annoyingly) particular and whenever I ask the waiters in there they are genuinely happy to accommodate.. a lot of the time my husband makes fun of me and they join in but I love it and it really funny. The restaurant is super comfortable, staff are great, food is so tasty.. the only issue is it can be pricey if you like your sides.. but it’s so delicious and an enjoyable experience.

Amazing been in this restaurant so many times usually have fishes starters which are pieces of marinated salmon, seabass and king prawns and some times kebab. Last time also tried Salmon steak which was delicious also had it with bread nan flavoured with cocount a cashew. Also big selections of gins more than 100s and lots of options of cocktails even you can ask and they will make you up to your taste.
