As food critic, I never publish reviews outside my professional engagements, but for Konoba Lucica I will make an exception.
When you are about 50 meters away from it, the smell of barbecue knocks upon the most delicate of your senses and as you get closer, it overcomes you completely so that even before you enter, you are a part of the experience.
Adorned by quality expressionist paintings the entrance halway is like a tunnel made of the smell of fresh, well-cooked food and the patio that opens before you, is a light at its end.
From that point, Boris, who runs the place and often greets guests and Tino, the barbecue master, will create the magical experience of the hours to come.
As you sit down, the patio seamlessly embraces you with its tenderly beautiful bougainvillea cascading gently from the edges of the perfecly proportionate walls that touch the summer sky of many stars, your ceiling for the evening.
Then Boris or some other charming waiter or waitress will approach you and in a way that is at the same time professional and warm, walk you through the menu.
With many options to choose from, whatever comes from the barbecue and the impeccable mastery of Tino will make your evening one to remember.
I know people who have eaten in Lucica before, and when talking to them, they would mention it was the best grilled fish they have ever had.
The reasonable waiting time will be filled by the perfumes comming from the barbecue and perhaps by a song of a Klapa - a group of male singers. They came, sat down some two tables away and in a heart-touching and yet discrete way, filled the air of this world of a patio with nostalgic longings of loves lived and wished.
And then the fish arrives. An eating companion of mine took a bite. Her face changed. She stood up, walked towards the barbecue and gave the surprised Tino a hug.
It is not just that Lucica has fishermen who supply it with fresh fish or that the fish is grilled to perfection. There is something else. The secret of Lucica that will be told to those who tune to its magic.

The best restaurant we have been while we stayed in Vela Luka... It's in an alley and it's looks just adorable. Waitresses were very friendly and did everything to make sure everything was nice.
Extra bread, I was even asked if I also wanted some of the soup my boyfriend ordered.
But the food....... In one word HEAVEN!
Fish is caught and the same day, they will cook it for you. We saw that fish was freshly brought by a local fisherman. The cook grills it on charcoal and the taste is exquisit. You can see how it's cooked in front of your table. Everything we had was delicious. Try it if you are in Vela Luka

We recommend this place to eat. We had dinner here twice. The fish is great and fresh. It was very tasty. Also, I have to mention that fried potatoes are perfect here.
They are not frozen potatoes as usual, here you eat homemade fried potatoes. Great service :)

Portions are ridiculously small to be eaten by an adult a man must order three meals. Čevapi is as thin as sticks, rumsteak is hard and tough as opanak. A portion of half a handful of french fries costs 30 kuna. They probably have chairs and tables left over from the former Yugoslavia, and if you want to sweat well and wait two hours for a meal, feel free to go there. A family of 5 members paid 900 kn (120 €) for dinner and we stayed hungry and angry. Shame and robbery. Never there again!

This was a really wonderful evening. Very romantic. The atmosphere is wonderful. Grilled food is made in front of you. You can smell the wonderful smells of food. People at the table next to us sang Dalmatian songs. This is not a typical restaurant, everyone is kind of friendly. I don’t know how to describe that feeling. You really have to visit this place. This is Vela Luka, this is island life, this is dalmatia.
The food is very tasty. I ate squid risotto. I recommend it. My husband ate grilled fish. I don’t know which is better, everything is so delicious. I recommend white wine - GRK.
We ate dessert - ROZATA. A refreshing egg cake. I wasn’t sure I would like it because of the eggs, but it tastes so nice and fresh.
The restaurant is not expensive. Prices are mostly the same as in other restaurants in Vela Luka...

Tavern Lucica offers a large selection of Dalmatian food. The prices are very affordable. The staff is friendly. Grilled food is prepared in front of you and everything smells so nice. I ate squid risotto which is great and drank homemade white wine. Homemade wine is very tasty and not expensive. I definitely recommend :)

Unfortunately only 3 stars from our side. The restaurant is a bit hidden in the backyard and has a very nice ambience. Also the service was very good. The open charcoal grill was fried on, after which I decided to use a mixed grill plate. My wife chose grilled tuna. The latter was very delicious. The grill plate, however, was a real disappointment. The meat (predominantly pork), was very fat riddled, the lamb was predominantly bone and the minced grilled.
Side dishes had to be ordered separately from both dishes. 5€ per serving of fries (which were quite cardboardy) and salad was not included as a side dish. For fish, the prices are quoted as a kilo price, so you end up with a surprise price. That was then with the tuna 38€ (without side dish)...
Bottom line. We wouldn't come by here again...

We only noticed the blue-lit sign from the street. So we came here and came to a quaint backyard restaurant. The decor is simple, the light may be a bit too bright, but we immediately liked it with the trees. It seems to be a family business. There is a huge barbecue where you can watch the boss at work.
We ordered tomato soup, Cevapcici and a grill plate with fries and cabbage vegetables. We were very pleasantly surprised when we were served a soup plate and a soup terrine. Great! We haven't had that in a long time. The soup was very delicious. The meat dishes were served with ajvar and red onions. They were well grilled and we tasted very good.
For dessert we shared palatschinken with jam and chocolate. Delicious!
The restaurant closes at the end of the month and does not reopen until June. We will definitely come back because we felt very comfortable.

Beautiful place and perfect food!
Hidden gem with amazing garden and great service. We were impressed by red onion chutney added to the fish plate starter, but only … meat and sea food were perfectly done, as well as black risotto….
Visiting Vela Luca this is place No 1 to eat!
Congratulations and regards from us - Polish guests that have eaten so much 😁

Great eats, food being cooked right in front of you in their open-air oven, fresh daily. The staff were very attentive and the vino was amazing. Also offering the best local selection. Their octopus salad is literally to die for!

Family meal of four, where we tried several different meals that were cooked in the outdoor fire pit to bring that charred bar b q flavouring.
Lamb was great and cooked really well with the pasta as tasty as ever. Mussels also excellent but not sure why the beards were left on. Black risotto was amazing plus sides and deserts were cool.
One thing that stood out was the service and politeness they demonstrated. Atmosphere was also very relaxing.
