Superb birthday dinner

Great price - value! Waitress Milena was superb (big smile and very friendly approach). Food was amazing. Octopus salad, "gof" fish steak (chrispy skin and juicy meat), 2 side dish + drink (beer, wine and bottle of water) for 50 EUR. Located a short walk out of city center. Highly recommended!!!

I forgot my “don’t forget me”!

We had the best evening at Skalinada which was recommended by multiple people and did not disappoint. The quality of the food and the portion sizes were excellent - they actively encourage you not to over order which is a rare thing in a tourist location. My son and I shared fresh Sea Bream - delicious. More impressive though was the knowledge of our waiter in terms of the wine and the history behind the dishes and their ingredients. The number of local dishes on the menu was also impressive as was the number of locally produced wines at a reasonable cost. I strongly recommend Konoba Skalinada. Try the Lumblija, a local spiced cake made originally by a Napoleonic solider for his local love whose name means “don’t forget me”. I forgot my doggy bag of cake on the table sadly whilst rushing for our taxi but I will never forget the taste or this fantastic restaurant and it’s great staff. Thanks.

Menu incomplete

Sadly, I cannot give more than 3 points. The problem wasn’t the taste of the food, or the portions, but the quantity of missing food on the menu (no octopus, no grilled fish, no fried squid, no crab...). But, I repeat, what we eat was good, and the waiters were fantastic. Next time I hope to taste the other (delicious) things!

Tasteless

Unfortunately I was not satisfied with the meal I had in this restaurant near the sea in Vela Luka. I ordered crab cake which was eatable but not tasty and the black gnocchi was totally tasteless. Not to mention that only one waitress was serving the whole full restaurant alone which caused very long waiting times. I had to stand up and tell her twice that I needed to pay because she didnt have any time. I suggest to order something else if you go.

Extremely greasy fried squied and french fries soaked in oil, local skinny cats that frequent the restaurant loved it. Mixed salad and lemonade were nice. Communication with most of the servers is really awkward and stunted, as if they don't actually work there and/or are not used to verbal communication with other people. We've barely eaten half od our meal, but the servers weren't alarmed by the fact, as if they know perfectly well how subpar their food is. We left the restaurant with a quesy feeling in our stomach, a nasty aftertaste in our mouth and a hole in our wallet (17 euros for calamari with fries is a standard price for Croatian coast, but this dish isn't worth half of the price; might be the cost of all the oil in it, though).

The meal took a long time to be served. The mixed grill was over cooked and the ‘crunchy’ chicken was raw. It was returned to the kitchen where they cooked the same food further and served it again with the now cold chips. There was no offer of a freshly cooked meal when the chef realised his error. Please consider carefully when eating here. They clearly rely on the tourist trade and not returning customers.

Classic turist trap

Their main chef quitted and some random person just took the apron, there is no better explanation for such awful food. Other option is that they simply try to cheat clients, the principle is: if it goes, it goes. They tried to serve us fish stock for a prawn soup, we were so shocked that we forget to take picture. Stuffed squid was so...OK let the picture speak for itself. Even the house wine was something cheap from the supermarket which you get on promo price for a few bucks. if you are not a dumb tourist that doesn`t know the basic difference between adriatic fish and frozen products from who knows where simply avoid.

Great family run restaurant with a view!

Great family run restaurant with a shady, private terrace overlooking the Harbour! We were there in May before the town was busy. Spent a couple hours on the patio eating and drinking: salads (best tuna salad I’ve had), poke frites, and a platter of mussels with white wine, garlic, oil, and a bowl of bread! Delicious! Service was friendly and helpful, and she was part of the family who owns the business. Excellent prices, and portion sizes. And cold, draft Karlovacko :)

Protected atmosphere

The vegetation creates a very cozy atmosphere and the sun doesn't blind you too much. The menu has something for everyone - whether vegetarian, fish or meat. We shared a Greek salad as a starter. The salad is very large, not dressed and also comes with lettuce leaves. We don't know it like that, but it was very tasty and fresh. For the main course we had the fried calamari with chips and prawn buzara with pasta. The calamari were very tasty. I was a little disappointed with my dish for the price. There were a whole 5 prawns on it. Otherwise a mountain of pasta with tomato sauce that lacked a bit of pizzazz - at least for the price. Visually it was an eye-catcher. The table wine was delicious and we were served very politely.

Very bad!

Poor food taste. Way too high ratings led us into a trap. Unfortunately, didn’t have time to try something else in VL. We were just looking for some simple, fresh and tasteful fish meal with lots of good olive oil and some rustical touch. Waste of time and money :/

We chose our fresh fish with grilled vegetables and baked potatoes. The quality was very good. The wine recommendation was sensational. Very attentive service. Dogs were given water immediately. We cannot understand why the restaurant is ranked 9th out of the 10 best.

Tasty for good sea food

Amazing food! We ordered fried fish plate, Greek salad and grilled veggies. The fried fish and the salad were very rich in taste and well made. I wouldn’t go for the grilled veggies just because it was too simple. Anyway the place is totally worth going and the service was nice as well !

Extremely nice ambient, kind stuff, great meat dishes and big portion sizes. Nice house white wine. They repeatedly declined to serve as with tap water, though, which I found extremely rude. Bread dry and of poor quality, seriously overpriced.

Huge portions

Visited this restaurant based on recommendation of a friend. We had a starter and two main courses, portions are really huge. Everything was fresh and delicious, including wine. Some small cats made us a company during dinner 😁

Water scam

Disgrace, this is awful. They don't serve tap water because "they don't want to be responsible for tje quality of water". Water in Croatia is always good, so this is a scam. Please when you cone here order tap water and remind tje staff that islts illegal not to serve tap water. Awful l!!!
