My husband surprised me with a Kitchen Table reservation at The Modern for our 30th wedding anniversary. From the minute we stepped into the restaurant, we knew we were in for something special. We've dined at many kitchen tables all over the world, and The...Modern, by far, was the best. Here's why: The Service: A tremendous thank you to Sam, Dan, Isabel and Gabe for making our dining experience truly amazing. Friendly, engaging, and savvy - this team is top-notch professionalism. We wanted for nothing, their timing/pacing was excellent, and they made it a fun experience. The Food: Chef de Cuisine, Sarah, is a super talented chef who ran the kitchen like a symphony. Her sous chefs were all in concert and yet had time to engage with us as they were preparing and presenting their dishes. We enjoyed every single course, there were absolutely no misses. Beautifully plated, expertly prepared - it is no surprise they have held their 2 Michelin star rating for so long. All dishes were stunning but our favorites were the eggs on eggs on eggs, green asparagus/green tomatoes, lobster with morel and peas and the beautiful pork with apricots. The Setting: If you want a real treat, book the Kitchen Table. The restaurant and bar are stunning but having a front-row seat in the kitchen while being treated like royalty and watching the culinary perfection happen...well, it can't be beat! Thank you again to The Modern team for an amazing anniversary celebration. We look forward to dining with you again!More

This is a truly fantastic restaurant. Everything about it is top-notch: service, comfort, noise-level (totally acceptable -- not like those crazy restaurants that think that loud music makes up for good food). The meal was absolutely delicious. We started with two appetizers (green & white...asparagus with wild sorrel crème fraîche and English pea soup with black truffle-potato gnocchi) and shared the most wonderful herb roasted beef with artichoke agnolotti & mint sauce. For dessert, I was torn between the banana pudding, which sounds amazing, and something called "pb&j buttercup". The waiter suggested that the latter was even more amazing, and I can vouch for him. This was one of those desserts you remember for a lifetime.More

Start with the fabulous Modern martini. Our dinner was wonderful. Try the pea soup with gnocchi and truffle and most definitely the rhubarb mille feuille. Really lovely atmosphere and superb staff.

I dined solo at the Modern at the end of March 2024. The food was excellent. I had the crab and green curry starter, the lobster tagliolini, and the banana pudding tart. My spirit-free beverage was so tasty that I ordered two (the Ko Pilot)....Service is a team effort so everything was very quick and efficient.More

There are lots of grounds for the one Michelin star at The Modern--the food, the ambience, those fabulous floral arrangements--but don't overlook people like JORDAN at the maitre d's desk. He's the first person you will encounter and he may be, in the end, the...best. Fifteen seconds into it, you feel welcomed, important, and like you just ran into your best friend . Okay, other 5 star reviews will iterate the strengths of this dining room but don't overlook the way a place can make everything seem perfect because it began warmly and well.More

From the moment you arrive at The Modern your experience starts and it just gets better and better. After a very warm welcoming we were walked into the restaurant and seated at our table that looked over the sculpture garden of MoMA , a perfect...view for lunch. Our waiter Fiona was so welcoming and friendly, even taking the time to ask how dry I would like my martini, amazing! The food was not only delicious, but perfectly presented and the menu is creatively put together The eggs on eggs on eggs was spectacular! Your food all comes to table in unison and each dish is explained. It was our 30th anniversary and we were presented with a desert with a candle, along with congratulations from the wait staff. The sommelier’s knowledge of wines was comprehensive and he was a great help to us in choosing the perfect wine to go with our lunch. The Modern can’t be faulted, our experience was beyond excellent. If you are visiting NYC and want a memorable dining experience then The Modern is sure to deliver. Thank you to everyone at The Modern who made our 30th Anniversary a most memorable one.More

Excellent everything. Very busy and popular midtown iron clad top notch restaurant. The portions are small but very tastefully prepared with a great presentation. I have visited here in January during the “NYC restaurant week” and the lunch ran $45 for two course, water and...two types of bread before the main course. Very satisfying. Highly recommend this place especially if you happens to be at the MoMA museum as this restaurant is adjacent to the museum.More

The meal was very disappointing in every way for a 2 Star Michelin restaurant for which I had dined many times. Our reservation was at 8pm and we were not seated until more than 45 minutes later (last guests to be seated in the restaurant)....We were stuck sitting on very uncomfortable bar stools. Although we did receive a free drink and an appetizer (bad warm oysters that had sat out for hours), the restaurant did not care about our reservation or finding us a table. When we were finally seated, we were rushed through a very expensive tasting menu. The restaurant was out of the first three wines we ordered, and the wine sommelier only tried to offer more expensive wines (and not even the same country or varietal) as a substitute. The wine list is vast but to be out of so many wines does not reflect well on a restaurant of this caliber. Towards the end of the meal, the restaurant even raised the lighting to try to run us out of the restaurant which was extremely rude considering we were the last seated and not our fault. The food was fine as always but one course was served right on top of the other not allowing us time to enjoy the meal. The staff had us in a race to finish for sure so they could go home. I did first complain in writing to the management of the restaurant who offered a weak apology and he was supposed to call me and never did. Apparently, they do not care about the satisfaction of the guests. For almost $2,000 for 4 people, the experience was lackluster and miserable due to all of the mistakes of the restaurant. As the restaurant does not seem to care, I doubt if I will ever return. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone until they "get their act together." Maybe Michelin will take a more serious look at the restaurant before awarding any stars in the future.More
