My husband and I had dinner here while visiting the Bay Area. We love this restaurant! This time we had white sangria, pastel puertoriqueno, tostones con mojo, ensalada de guayaba, and camarones ajo limones with arroz con gandules. So delicious! As always, staff attentive and...friendly. So glad they had pasteles. They usually sell out quickly, and I believe are made on weekends. But so yummy!More
The food was very good. The staff were incredibly friendly. My only complaint is that we showed up in the afternoon and they were closing for a period of time. I was disappointed that the website didn’t reflect the afternoon closing time. We ended up...taking the food to go (and a $20/RT Uber ride). Would have liked to been able to spend additional time in the area, instead of taking are food and leaving.More
Husband and I headed straight to Mission district to check out Nuevo Frutilandia. Saw it on TA when looking for restaurants in area. Delightful!! We love Cuban and PR food, and were so happy to find this gem. We arrived for lunch, just as it...opened. Decor is bright, colorful, evokes the tropical ambiance of the islands. As an added bonus, we found out that Guy Fieri from DDD visited here. Our server, Jessica, was friendly and attentive. We started with a carafe of sangria, followed with tostones, ensalada de quayaba, and shared an entree of lechon horneado. Delicious!! Everything was lovingly prepared, as if "abuela" was in the kitchen. Finished off with coffee and dessert, empanada maduros. Excellent. (Picture has some bites taken out. Sorry!) Yummy!! We will return on our next visit to SF!More
We weren't expecting to find such authentic and delicious Puerto Rican & Cuban food in downtown SF. The service was great. The owner was there and was very friendly. Tostones, ropa vieja, empanadas - all excellent. Apparently, they make pasteles fresh over the weekend, but...run out within the first few days of the week so we missed out on those.More

Our first night in San Francisco we decided to try a new place. It was record highs that day (temps hit 102), so when we got there, they told us about an hour and that we were the last table they were taking because the...staff was done from the obnoxious heat. I wasn't happy about trying the place initially because reading some of the menu items the spice mixtures seemed odd to me. So I had predetermined what I would get.....well that went out the window because they were out of 3 entrees. We started with the chicken mofongo and the fried green plantains. Everyone loved them. I wound up picking the garlic shrimp with Puerto Rican rice. It was very good, slightly over priced for the small amount of shrimp, but good.My son got the roasted pork with garlic, pineapple and carribean spices. His was amazing and very plentiful. My sister made a mistake and got the empanadas not realizing it was a small appetizer but my son had enough pork and rice to share with her. My son and his girlfriend had the sangria, not really impressed and overpriced. We closed with the tres leches and everyone but me loved it!! Service was fast and friendly. Will most definitely return to try other menu items next time we're in town!!More
We ate here after seeing Guy Fieri feature it on Triple DDD. He didn't let us down. The food is pretty authentic Cuban and Puerto Rican. The arroz con gandules isn't as good as my Puerto Rican dad makes it, but it's pretty close. And...the ropa vieja, almost as good as my Cuban mom makes it. We'd definitely go back on our next visit to San Fran. What we appreciated most though is that we technically made it during their closed hours (3-5 pm). Yet the owner welcomed us in and he and the cook treated us as special guests.More
We stopped here before attending a reggaeton concert at Roccapulco and had a really nice time! The ceviche was very tender and tasty, and the fried yucca was a new discovery that we enjoyed. I also really liked the sangria. The best part of the...visit was talking with the owners, who are wonderfully friendly and entertaining. We had traveled to Cuba a month before going to Fruitilandia, and had a great time talking to them about Cuba and the Caribbean. I'd go here again and would recommend Fruitilandia to others!More
Small restaurant, friendly staff. I was looking forward to loving it since I love Cuban food. I came for pasteles but they had run out so I took the Mofongo to go, to try their stuff (my first visit). I have made mofongo before that...were tenderer by far and more flavorful. Theirs were thick, dry, low on flavor to my palate. Why cross the city for that? So far I haven't gone back. I made my own Cuban dinner for New Year's Eve; delicious; cheap, and not that much work. One day I may try their pasteles but they are only available certain days a week, subject to availability....More

Traditional Cuban and Puerto Rican food with fast service. Friendly staff is welcoming. We loved the chicken empanadas, the beef are great too. The gandules are worth a try and the house made sangria is refreshing. The owners are super nice and take pride in...their resturant.More
I love this small little restaurant. The service is always friendly and they have the best black beans...just like mom used to make. Make sure to get the Mamey batido , a smoothie of a tropical fruit named mamey. Very buttery and yummy
