Good Ethiopian food with a subtle California twist. Friendly atmosphere and nice service. Easy to find.
When I don't have time to cook I walk 2 blocks and pick up the best take out in SOMA. I either get the Veggie Sampler or the Doro Tibs, There is always enough food to feed the two of us.
Very nice food, mostly the standards one expects at an Ethiopian restaurant in the U.S. but that’s OK because the standards are quite varied. You order at the counter and when the food is ready they bring it to your table. A very good option...in a slightly off the beaten path area, just down the street from SOMA Park Inn (which is where I was staying).More
Lunch at a small, clean place just a half-block south of MIssion. Order at the counter. After a very short wait, we got a very ample plate of truly delicious food (veggie sampler plus beef tibs). We ordered medium spicy and it wasn't hot enough...for us. Frequently the tenderness of the beef at Ethiopian restaurants is an issue (cheap cuts, too chewy). Here at Moya, the beef was quite good. Two people with tip: $33. IN SF, that's a deal. I wish this place were in my hometown. Highly recommended.More
Fresh, fresh, fresh with 3 levels of spiciness. The three of us devoured the tasty siga tibs, Doro wot and vegetable variety platter. A great find with metered parking nearby.
South of Market Streets keeps changing. The cityscape has been getting a facelift at a glacial pace, but my friends and I were able to dine at a humble cafe called Moya. We ordered a veggie platter with doro tibs, which is a sautéed chicken...breast dish, and Ethiopian sourdough flatbread injera. I have only had Ethiopian food once over a decade ago, but I remembered the cuisine fondly. Moya is small, but the plates are generous and the service polite and prompt. The variety was delightful with the lentils, peas, collars greens, onions and mixed greens. The injera was slightly sour with a wonderfully chewy texture. I highly recommend Moya for flavorful food at a reasonable price!More
Stopped by this spot while visiting our niece, who had never eaten Ethiopian food. We have, in several cities, and this was some of the best we've ever had. Our niece loved it, and will introduce her friends to it. The injera was good, and...cut into three inch strips to make it easier to tear off. We had a veggie sampler with various beans and lentils along with collards. We added doro wot (chicken) and kitfo (beef tartare), which were both very good. Check it out, whether you already know about Ethiopian food or want to try something new.More
I tried the Shiro, which is made of chick peas, with Injera. The food tasted good except for some spicy green chili peppers that I could not bear. One thing that I look forward to at Ethiopian restaurants is the Telba, Ethiopian flax seed smoothie....Moya did not have Telba. The food was pricier than the other Ethiopian restaurants that I have tried.More
This place is small and you have to wait to get your food but the food is amazing. There was one lady there who ran the restaurant. She took our order and then started making the food. We could see her cooking the food in...a pan on the stove. We had to wait some time for our food because there were 2 or 3 orders before us, but when we got our food, it was excellent. Some of the best Ethiopian food I have ever eaten. The restaurant is small probably could only fit 5 or 6 families of 4 in the whole restaurant. We ordered the lentils, chicken, and ground beef. Everything was excellent.More
Great vibe and wonderful food. It will satisfy without feeling heavy. Fresh ingredients make it a wonderfully healthy, yet decedent experience.
It was my first time with Ethiopian food and I just loved it! As the menu was completely new for me, I just asked for a suggestion from the lovely lady who works there and we had a delicious meal with a veggie plate and...another one with chicken (a very traditional one); unfortunately I just can't remember the names. Very good prices! We ate a lot for less than $15 per person. Beware that some plates are very spicy, so remember to ask before you order. :)More
I like Ethiopian food. This is something I look for whenever I get to a place. Moya is very close to our office in 9th street.
This is a small restaurant run by a woman who loves to cook. It is still very authentic and has not become a large commercial space. You can ask for mild, medium or spicy food. Only complaint would be that the business hours are very...short and it is also shut on sundays.More
During my lunch break from work I decicided to stop here for a quick meal because I was curious about the ethiopian cousine. I had an ethiopian sandwitch with salad and I couldn't say if I liked it or not, it was simply a new...flavor to me. Overall I have to say it was an avarage experience and not for all tastes.More
