Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Haven't been here until our daughter suggested this place while we're going around the island. Now it's our "must have"! We phone ordered our plates & told us it would take an hour, which was fine. When we arrived there, their set up was perfect for pickup and ordering especially during this pandemic. We ordered Big J Special, Pulehu rib plate & Hamburger Steak plate with mushroom gravy. We took our first bite & it was YUMMY!!! They give a lot & the price was worth it.

This restaurant is in North Shore and is a small place with no indoor seating (you can take the food and eat at the beach 5 minutes away). Food needs to be ordered either by phone ahead of time or by waiting in line (both time we came and had to wait in a long line). The restaurant serves the best BBQ ribs (kalbi and pulehu) I have ever tasted. The portion is pretty generous and normally comes with rice, side order and utensils. The ribs are so thick, flavorful and so delicious. We highly recommended this restaurant and definitely will come again when we visit Oahu next time.

A local recommended this place + we set out to see for ourselves. Currently it is take out only + you have to order by phone. It was a long wait for our food on the week night we ordered, but it may always be that way, especially right now in the summer months. The food was good + the garlic shrimp was amazing! I recommend this dish if you’re jonesin’ for shrimp! Would totally eat here again + try a few other dishes that were recommended to us! Enjoy!

Some of our party enjoyed their breakfasts, some not so much. Omelettes were large and tasty. Country potatoes good, hash browns were merely pre formed patties like McDonalds, links were only fair. Macadamia pancakes were simply regular (rather tough) pancakes with a sauce of thick gravy consistency with a few small pieces of Mac nut. Very friendly staff. Hubby never doesn't drink coffee, but all agreed that this particular pot was not palatable. I think to be fair, we should try lunch or dinner.

Staff is really friendly. Food is good with large portions. Kalbi ribs, Mac salad, and rice were quite tasty and filling—definitely had leftovers. Homemade banana cream pie with shortbread crust was a great dessert. Lots of parking and tables outside to sit and talk story. I will definitely go back when I’m on the area. Looking forward to trying breakfast too!

Located within an unsuspecting strip mall along the highway, Papa Ole's was highly recommended by a work colleague who said they serve up great & hearty Hawaiian plates. Safe to say that they lived up to the hype. We did have to wait a little bit for the food to come out, as a couple of very large phone orders had come in just before we pulled up (I would subsequently recommend that you call ahead and place your order over the phone before driving over). The staff was very friendly and working hard. Food wise, we got the loco moco, omelette breakfast, and french toast. They were all delicious, abundant, and affordable. I would certainly go back there for breakfast/lunch, as they are well worth making the trip down to Hauula for!

Papa Oles was recommended to us by Uncle Rich, an extremely friendly and welcoming N. shore native. I ordered the ribs and shrimp, my wife ordered chicken teriyaki and shrimp. Everything was delicious. The woman at the counter was so nice and helpful. And everyone eating there was laughing and enjoying themselves. I will probably go back to try out their breakfast.

Worth the wait, such a great breakfast. I had Spam and crispy potatoes, have to get the special seasoning mix on top (black and white sesame seeds and seaweed). My husband had a fantastic breakfast sandwich. Portions are large. Prices are good. Service was great! We knew it was a good spot when there were lots of local families coming to pick up huge orders.

We spent two weeks wandering around the North Shore trying out different local restaurants and decided to stop at Papa Ole's to pick up breakfast to take with us to Waimea Bay. The food was so good and the portions were huge. Worth the wait and the trip. I had the macadamia banana pancake (glad I ordered one because I could never have eaten two) and I am still wishing for more of it months after returning to the mainland. My "side" of bacon was huge also and very tasty. My husband's omelet was so huge that even he couldn't eat it all. (He usually finishes my food!). We will definitely be dropping in again on our next trip. Mahalo Papa Ole's.

This is literally a hole in the wall amidst a strip mall featuring a small island grocery story. Few tables inside and picnic table seating outside. Food served on disposable plates. But—- the food is amazing and home cooked. Had breakfast here...portions are huge. Best and largest Loco Moco we had on the island. Homemade guava jam for the toast. Friendly staff. Order at counter and food is brought to you.

I live near the Turtle Bay resort and am a Kanaina for the last 80yr. I often drive out to Hauula to eat at PapaOle’s cause I enjoy their cooking. The Pork roast with gravy is one of my favorites and so is the Kalikimaka Pulehu ribs. The wait is okay cause they make each order one and a time and it’s not like a Big Mac where lots of premade food. The quantity is awesome and the prices are good. The staff is always very nice especially to us Senior Citizens.

We ordered an assortment of breakfast foods for four of us to share. The food was hot and plentiful. The macadamia nut pancakes with buttery syrup are to die for! The sausage, potatoes and egg breakfast plate was also nice. We ordered over the phone and went to pick it up - it only took about 20 minutes. This is a place we'll go back to. I don't think you can get a "healthy" breakfast there but whatever you get is very enjoyable - live in the moment!

We often travel around the island but most times have stopped at one of our favorites long before we got to Hauula. A few weeks ago, we found ourselves in the area and hungry so we stopped. Great service with attention to everyoneʻs safety in ordering. The food was tasty and hot and delicious. Worth the trip to that part of the island on any day.... we had the garlic chicken.. good without being overwhelming.

We went for breakfast. It was just okay, and expensive. It wasn’t some great experience—you stand in a line outside, place your order and then the lady brings it to you. Then you eat outside in an old strip mall. We didn’t go back.
