We arrived to a very busy atmosphere but the staff was welcoming and accommodating. My meal of lighter fare salmon was perfect - steaming hot vegetables with the delicious char-grilled salmon. Loved every bite! My husband's lighter fare prime rib was done to perfection and...the best he has every tasted. Our server, Jarrett, was helpful and engaging. He added to a perfect evening. We'd absolutely go here again.More

My husband used to visit this restaurant 30 years ago when he lived in La Crosse, so we had to make it a "must-stop" on our visit for a summer weekend. Housed in an old train station, it oozes history. It also oozes excellent beverages...(including an impressive whiskey and bourbon selection) and amazing steaks. We got drinks at the bar first, and then for dinner both chose different cuts of steak (porterhouse for him/filet for me) for our meal which was amazing. Excellent service rounded out our experience here. We highly recommend!More

Went to the the Freight House for our Anniversary, drinks were great and the service was awesome. My husband and myself each had a Prime Rib and it was tough, just by looking at the marbling I could tell. Could hardly cut it. The kitchen...staff needs to order a better quality of meat. The prices they charge we expected so much more.More

This was our second time at the Freighthouse. The historic building in which it's located enhances the experience. On our first visit I had prime rib which was excellent. On our second visit this past weekend I had the teriyaki chicken which was OK but...nothing special. Several in our group visited the salad bar and said it was good. I had the standard suggested spinach salad with strawberries and orange segments - quite good. We shared a variety of desserts which were all really good. This past weekend we had a large family group for a 50th wedding anniversary party and they were able to provide us with a private upstairs room.More

This was a most delicious prime rib - truly the place to eat hearty! The portion was generous and tasty. Our waitress was not extremely attentive, but the place was packed. Salad bar was smaller than expected, but still plenty of choices. This was a...nice venue for something special -- anniversary or birthday -- but otherwise won't need to return.More

Had drinks here with friends and really enjoyed the ambience. We ate on the "back dock" which means we were outside in a shaded area with live music and great food. Their $3 burgers on Tuesday nights truly pack the house - come early if...you want a table! Excellent service, great atmosphere, and good food. Worth the visit....More

Stopped here for son's birthday and the food is still great. The food portions are still greatly larger than what is on the menu.

Went on a Saturday evening, no reservations accepted, but a very large dining room (no waiting). Three of the four of us had the char crusted filet and one of us had the prime rib. We shared two different types of scallops, both were delicious....The char crusted filet was so tender and tasted superb, as did the prime rib. Would definitely go back to the Freighthouse. The owner was cleaning tables in between guests, & we talked to him, which is nice to see that the owners are there, making sure guests were happy with their food.More

We live 4 hours away. Came to Lacrosse to see the eagles. We have been celebrating our anniversary the last 4 years here as we have scoured Chicago and Milwaukee area for some thing that measures up to the freight house. .

We did a take out for our Anniversary and ordered the light fare salmon and shrimp cocktails. The food was absolutely great and the packaging to keep it warm and nicely presentable was very nice. It was still warm after 20 minutes in the car.... The price was very reasonable for the substantial amount of food and the flavors. Highly recommend.More
