This evening Wickman House did not live up to the ratings. First we were seated on a picnic table - no cushions or back. This is fine for a family gathering in the backyard (hamburgs and hot dogs) but not OK for a #1 rated...restaurant. The waiter was pleasant, knowledgeable but kind of full of himself and pretentious. The food was good but not great. My wife had the grilled trout and the fish was great but the smoked pistachio was overbearing and had to be wiped off. I had the 'surf and turf' and was disappointed. The turf (waseda bavette) was overcooked and tasteless and the four grilled shrimp was good but not great. I would consider returning next year in hopes that it was just an off night.More

We ate at Wickman House tonight, a five course dinner we consumed at a picnic table (our choice). We were visited at different points of our stay by three of the restaurant’s staff of twelve, who collaborate on everything from harvesting from the restaurant’s gardens...to cleaning and trimming game, to preparing all the sauces and creations made, serving and cleaning up. Two of the courses, the gazpacho and a small plate of “pfannkuchen” pancake we shared, were as creative and fun, tasty dishes as any we have had anywhere, including some very highly rated restaurants on three continents. I particularly enjoyed the kitchen’s careful blending of complementary flavors, for example, pickled chow-chow and fresh corn kernels with a slosh of heat in the gazpacho, or the blend of rye and other grains in a lefsa-like ‘pfannkuchen” pancake, topped with fennel, aronia berries, blueberries, smoked carrots among other complementary morsels. We choose fish entrees, hers the pistachio pesto trout, mine the blackened whitefish bedded in a lovely, thin sauce. We started with oysters on the half-shell, hers nice little plump ones from Washington State, I with slightly larger ones from Prince Edward Island. We complemented these with a nice, reasonable Chablis we also enjoyed throughout the meal, leaving a little to share with our servers and whoever else among staff wanted a taste. After everything else, needing no more, we succumbed to two slices of brown butter, pear pound cake topped with a caramelized cinnamon whipped cream. Total recommend for any visiting here, but you need reservations a month or two in advance. We know they will be open when we plan to return to Door County in November, and that they shut down for part of the winter. In conversation we learned they host a large wine tasting event sometime after opening in the Spring.More

First time visiting Door County and we were told that we had to visit the Wickman House, and I'm so happy that we did! First, this place is always booked so be sure to get a reservation. We were able to jump on a 9pm...reservation, which was a bit late for us but we arrived around 8:30 to have a cocktail because we read many reviews on their impressive cocktail menu. Our waitress Mackenzie was so friendly and made us feel so welcomed. We started off with the organic deviled eggs du jour and the smoked whitefish cake. Oh my goodness, both were great but that whitefish cake! Delicious! For our main, I had the surf and turf and it was cooked perfectly and so flavorful. My boyfriend originally wanted their wickman cast iron chicken but they were out so he ordered the dinner special, which was the whitefish, but Mackenzie sadly came back and broke his heart telling him they were also out. He ordered the cioppino and WOW! That broken heart recovered very quickly. What a great dish! The broth was fantastic! It was my birthday so the pistachio cheesecake was a must and well worth it. So! This place deserves more stars! Make those reservations and go! I wish I had taken more pictures to share, but we were taking in the experience and was clearly distracted by the ambience and the food.More

This place was packed and for good reason. Make a reservation well in advance for a special meal. The pork belly and pork loin entree may have been the best I have ever eaten. The pork belly was perfectly crisp and the loin portion moist...and not dried out The liver pate was superb!. The wait staff was very conversational and knowledgeable about all of the drinks and menu items, unusually so. The restaurant manager worked the room to make sure everything was being done perfectly. A must visit in Door County!More

We’ve eaten at some amazing restaurants across the world and this one was among the very best. Complex, interesting flavors - the kind where you are sad the dish is done. Pfahnkuchen, grilled greens, grilled trout with pistachios, lemon, and piccada plus truly spectacular drinks...(Sri Lanka and Final Ward). And eating outdoors with great service. I can’t rave enough.More

6 of us came for our reservation. Got the reservation 2 months earlier. So, it's very hard to reserve. We got the cute room to the left. It was a very hot night and the AC wasn't working as it should, but they had a...great wine list and drink list, as usual, so they had that going for them. Started with the Kale Caesar and the kale was perfection. So tender and flavorful. I had the Heritage Pork, pretty tasty, but not the pork chop they used to have. My husband had the grilled greens and Seared Whitefish. He liked both. Mackenzie was our server. She was very friendly, helpful and knew her menu. We were all so stuffed after the meal, that we couldn't order dessert.More

We had a truly excellent dining experience here. We ate inside the main dining room which was decorated with fresh flowers and candles. We started with cocktails and appetizers that included the chicken liver mousse and the Tartare du jour. With our entrees (Cioppino, Cast...Iron Chicken, and Duck breast) we had a bottle of Sancere and a bottle of Pinot Noir. We had flourless chocolate cake and a Pavlova for dessert. We savored every mouthful and it felt as though we might be enjoying the best meal of our lives! Cost with tax and tip was $100 per person, which was a splurge for us, but worth it.More

We had the pleasure of being among the first to dine at the Wickman House after a long hiatus because of COVID. We were tourists, but were recommended by our Inn keeper and other locals as the best dining option in Door County. And we...understand why. Lots of great places to eat in the Peninsula but this was a league above anything else you can find. Couldn't tell that it was the reopening, the staff were very knowledgeable and efficient. The cocktails were the best I've had in a very long time anywhere and the food was unbelievably delicious. We each had an appetizer, a small plate, and a main and they were all perfectly cooked. We were told that the head chef had come from Chicago where he had previously worked as a sous chef at a Michelin-starred restaurant, and suspect it is just a matter of time until he establishes his own credentials as head chef of the Wickman House. This is a do not miss. We will be reserving a table well in advance of our next visit to Door County!More

We've been visiting Wickman House since it opened 6-7 years ago (?) The staff are as professional as a 5 Star dining restaurant in any big city! The atmosphere is inviting and quaint and the outside grounds are the perfect spot for a cocktail and/or...appetizer. The bar menu has everything that you could want from Specialty cocktails to a wide variety of wines and several beer options. The food is outstanding and inventive. The menus change with the seasons. Many of the herbs, vegetables and edible flowers are grown on the property or foraged. There are vegetarian options as well. This late spring and summer, Wickman House changed their menu and designed their: Smoke/Barbeque Summer with outdoor seating and pick up with picnicking on the grounds available. The restaurant purchased several large smokers and offered smoked meats by the pound with many side dish options. They also had a few nonsmoker options. Now, Wickman House has evolved once again and started their inside dining in a safe and socially distanced environment. Appetizers and cocktails can still be enjoyed on the outdoor grounds. This is definitely our "Go To" place when in Door County.More

After a day spent driving we went in very casual clothes. We felt pretty out of place... would probably recommend dressing up a bit more than shorts and tee shirts.
