Great tacos

We were on a road trip and in town for just one night. We saw this place had great reviews, so we decided to stop. We were a little nervous when the parking lot was nearly full, but were happily surprised at the number of tables. We were seated right away and chips and salsa (delicious) along with our drinks came out soon after. We both ordered steak tacos- they were yummy!

South Charleston, West Virginia Mexican Perfection

I must say that such great food adventure is rarely happenstance. However, on this trip through West Virginia, we were fortunate to roll the dice and walk to this South Charleston gem from our hotel. The only downfall is that it’s unlikely I will return to this section of the United States as this is one of THE BEST Mexican menus from which I’ve ever eaten. My husband had carnitas, as he tries them wherever we travel for comparative. I ordered Camerones Agavero which is grilled shrimp, green pepper, zucchini, onion, rice, and queso. So fresh, perfectly cooked, not over grilled, EXCELLENT. If you drive through Charleston, West Virginia, do not miss this dining opportunity.

Was in town for one night to attend a funeral the next day and met up with family since this was the closest place to where we were staying. We were very pleased with the service and the food. Due to Covid the seating area was at about half capacity but they have outdoor dining also. Very satisfied.

Too Expensive Now

They recently raised the prices on their menu and now some of my favorite items went up by $5 each. Getting too steep for me.

Fast, friendly and pretty good food, too!

If you're in a rush - or even if you're not - this restaurant will satisfy your cravings. They were so FAST!...to seat us...to give us menus......to take our order...to bring our drinks...to bring our food...to bring our check....!!! Despite all that, we never felt rushed. The food was pretty good; I ordered and enjoyed a very acceptable chicken burrito, but I was crazy-jealous of the delicious-looking chicken soup my husband ordered. But, have to admit, that cold Modelo Negro tasted pretty good on Friday night! Give this nice restaurant a try - they really know how to take care of you!

Good for a meal later in the evening

Was staying overnight in town and needed a meal after 9:00pm. It was the only restaurant we could find open close to our hotel. Would I go back? Yes! Was it some of the best Mexican food we’ve had? No but for our circumstances it hit the spot

great food, great menu, great service

Wide range of choices on menu including plenty vegetarian/vegan food. Very helpful staff were also happy to make adjustments to accomodate dietary allergies/intollerences. Food was delicious! Prices reasonable - kept going back to eat there.

They will give you sopiled food! DO NOT EAT HERE!!! they are rude and nasty!!! They made me fight to take off the moldy dish and did not even give me a discount on my food from my issue THEY GAVE ME.

Not bad food!

I have been to both Agaves. They are similar as far as decor and quality of food. The margaritas are a bit skimpy on the tequila but if you are hot and thirsty... The food is just average but again it’ll depend on how hungry you are. First time I’ve ever had flautas with a sauce over them. Not sure I’m a fan. The Charleston location had a guitar playing singer the evening I was there and that was a nice perk. Probably will not go back.

Mexican meal....

The restaurant to our hotel within walking distance. First time, but was amazed how quick the service. The food was delicious and my husband was a little surprised that the bill was so reasonable. We liked it so much we went back the next day. Wish there was one closer to home. Will stop again next time we're in Charleston.

Change of Management not good

Local patrons for more than a decade, this was our go-to Mexican restaurant for years; in our most recent visits, we have found a serious decline in food quality and service. The fajitas had a strange chemical taste - resembled liquid smoke additive; my partner ordered a fried chimi which was served lukewarm as if microwaved rather than fried. As a side note, although not as important, there were no longer tomatoes in the fajitas and neither offerings included the guacamole that we have become accustomed to enjoying. My wife ordered a grande margarita which she swears was a virgin - no evidence of alcohol. Just a note: we were there on a Saturday at 5:30 pm and only 2 of 50 tables were occupied - tending to lead me to believe that other locals are avoiding what used to be a fine experience. I wish the ownership had not changed!

A great surprise and fun Friday night for these travelers

We were staying at a local hotel on our way south. Los Agaves was walking distance from our hotel, so we tried it for dinner. We didn't know what to expect, but wow, were we delighted! It was a busy Friday night and the place was busy, noisy, upbeat and fun! We were seated quickly on the patio and we felt welcomed immediately. The server was super friendly, and our food was served quickly. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was festive. Just what we hope for when staying in a brand new place!
