Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We are from the DC area; I NEVER thought I would find a pupuseria near Lost River. I consider myself a papusa aficionado having tried most of the papusas in NoVa, even making them with friends from El Salvador. Papusa Emerita is a hidden gem!! Now this is the first time I've eaten at this restaurant, but we are sure to make it a weekly visit!
Strolled in at 7:40 unaware they were closing at 8pm, Ayida(I may be butchering this spelling), Emerita's daughter was gracious and friendly and although they were cleaning up, she made us 12 delicious papusas to go. Excellent food and service!

You're not going for the ambiance. You're going for the best (albeit only) pupusas in town! As good as what I had in El Salvador, just maybe a little cheesier. Ask for the loroco pupusa (not on menu but sooo good)!

The food is great! So good and different -- portions are big and the food is freshly made. Small little place but worth it for a good, inexpensive meal!

I was excited to learn we had a Salvadoran restaurant in town, but now disappointed in what I discovered. There is only one staff who speaks decent English; however, could not really explain the dishes or toppings available. They need a printed list of available toppings. The menu given inside does not match what is listed on the board outside. Seating is limited. I ordered the baleada and it was served cold. This is definitely not near as good as other Salvadorian/Honduran restaurants I have visited. My son's food had a hair in it. When he took it up to show the staff, they asked if he wanted a complete new plate. Well, yeah. I will think twice about visiting here again. They do not accept debit/credit cards.

I almost do not want to write this review for fear that this little gem of a restaurant (which only has four small tables inside and one table outside) will become overrun by customers once the good news spreads. Really good food! I had never eaten a pupusa before, and they are delicious. On the menu they are called "tortillas" but are much more like pancakes filled with - in my case - a white cheese and some vegetables common in El Salvador/Honduras, which I had never eaten before. I will get them again next time. The huge bowl of chicken soup was a meal in itself ($10.99 - worth every penny) and bordered on the magical. It, too, had some veggies unknown to me, but delicious. All fresh ingredients. You don't go there for the atmosphere...it's very rustic; there is no separation of the kitchen from the dining area, but the people are very friendly...a real family operation, and the food is terrific. Just go and enjoy. Oh, they need a sign on N. Main St; I drove past it. It is immediately to the south of the former KFC/Taco Bell and opposite Potomac Motors.

This place is a must stop. They have a small area for eating in, but the food more than makes up for it! Friendly people, homemade authentic pupusas and full meals. You have to try this place if in the area!

Delicious pupusas, large and very plump, just like we like them in El Salvador. 100% recommended. The asada baleadas were exquisite. A gem in the middle of the road.
