Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Always fresh, always delicious, always a great value. Nothing mass produced tasting here....cabbage soup was spicy and perfect, egg roll was as good as I’ve had, and the orange chicken tasted homemade. Even later at night, this place still rocks it.

I'm not a big rice person at Asian restaurants and the Rice Bowl has lots of very good noodle dishes. In our case, we had the Pad Thai Chicken and the Singapore Noodle with Curry. Both were excellent and had the correct degree of "spiciness". I wouldn't eat curry every day, but like it occasionally and theirs was very good. The service was good and the portions more than adequate for the price. Next time we're in the area, we'll go back.

After a 10 hour drive it was nice to get a quality meal. We enjoyed the freshness of the food and the quick service. Not to mention that they were very close to the Hotel. We will definitely make it an annual visit.

If you like Chinese...DO NOT EAT HERE!! We know what good and average Chinese food is and this place is terrible Chinese. Very little appears to be freshly made. The sweet and sour chicken was greasy, hard and frozen 5 minutes ago. The spring rolls were made a year or so ago as they tasted greasy and a bit freezer burned. The shrimp ones had maybe 1 or 2 small shrimps. I only saw one per roll. The food made me sick which I am still recovering from 2 days later. Others in my party agreed with me. Oddly the place had people in it. I should have left when I did not see much staff like you would see in a Chinese restaurant. Maybe the food was supposed to be Mexican with a Chinese flair? I am not sure. We do not recommend especially if you are traveling.

Very good food at reasonable prices. Friendly and attentive waitress. Had the Sesame Chicken, egg rolls, and vegetable sushi. Also had wine and beer. Couldn’t be happier with our dinner!

Went on a Sunday for buffet based on strong reviews, "best Chinese in the Charleston area", etc. I am vegetarian and used to limited choices, but there was literally one item on the buffet besides pork, chicken, seafood, etc, namely green beans, as well as a rather limited salad bar. No veggie sushi, no broccoli unless you pick it from the pork offering, no vegetable dish at all. Over and above that the buffet was the shortest in the area, remarkably few offerings; others have long buffets with entrees, sushi, extensive fruit and salad bar you could make a meal of, dessert bar with oriental pastries, ice cream, and so forth. Their line was quite weak by comparison. The staff were lovely, which is why the third star, and the place itself while kind of humble outside was nicely appointed and clean inside, but very noisy when packed with the Sunday crowd. My hunch is that if one ordered off the menu veggie options might be available, but if you want the buffet, not happening, and even my wife, who is an omnivore, found the meat offerings to be tasteless with odd glazing; she seldom fails to finish her meal, but not here. The place was packed, but likely they are from the area and don't want to drive into Charleston. If you are in Charleston I'd stay there for Chinese. I was really looking forward to this, and I'm sorry to have to write such an unhappy review, since these are nice folks.

Wait staff NOT familiar with GLUTEN FREE. Nothing on buffet is gluten free - very disappointing. However buffet entrees were all very good. Restaurant is larger than it looks and very popular. Everything I got was delicious, my gluten free companion ate a salad and got something later.

When we travel we always try to support local businesses. We recently visited the Mardi Gras Casino and stayed overnight. The front desk recommended the Rice Bowl just a few minutes away for dinner. We ordered the Orange Chicken and Egg Rolls and both were awesome. We had a great waitress who treated us like family and both enjoyed a very good meal. The looks from outside of the building can be deceiving, but this place is very clean and modern inside. Good people and great food. Highly recommended.

A friend spoke highly of this restaurant , so my family and I visited the Rice Bowl for the first time today in Cross Lanes. I had checked out some online reviews before our visit and learned the backstory about the RIver's Edge restaurant and the items the Rice Bowl now served, including the hushpuppies, cabbage soup, and a specific salad that was served at RE. When we entered the restaurant around 1:30 pm, groups of lunching patrons were starting to finish up. The five of us were seating in the back seating area. I thought it was interesting that even though one person takes your drink order all the servers pitch in and help each other. Jody was extremely helpful. When I asked about the River's Edge items, she pointed out that they were all available on the lunch buffet. That made my lunch choice easy. The five of us ordered the buffet and my husband also ordered some sushi. It was presented beautifully at the table and I wish I had snapped a photo. There were also 2 sushi options on the lunch buffet. Jody recommended mixing the ginger dressing and the French dressing from the very fresh salad bar and I'm glad I took her recommendation. It was delicious. The cabbage soup had a nice bite to it. I can't compare it to the RE since I've never tried their version before their closing. The hushpuppies were great and my husband raved that they were the best he's ever had....and we've lived in Georgia and Florida where hushpuppies are abundant on lots of menus. Our sons all found items they loved on the buffet: one loved the General Tso's chicken, one inhaled the teriyaki chicken, and the third had seconds of the sweet and sour chicken minus the sauce. We are Heinz ketchup fans, so the ketchup packets didn't go over well with our Heinz ketchup snob sons. lol The lo mein noodles were fresh and flavorful, and I thought it was a great idea that they halve the egg rolls...such a smart idea. Jody stopped by our table and told us a little more about the regular menu and some of the customer favorites. The decor and lighting is very nice! We will be back for sure!

Small buffet with a couple sushi options included. Large menu to order from. All made for a decent lunch. Would give it another try in the future.

I eat here pretty regularly and the sushi is always very good. They run deals throughout the week and you can usually get sushi for cheaper than the usual price.

Big fan of the buffet. Very good salad bar and lots of choices on the hot bar. Now offering sushi fixed on the spot. As well, they offer the hush puppies and cabbage soup on the bar from the old rivers edge restaurant. A must try for anyone passing through.
