Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited the campsite close by (The Paddocks- fabulous!) and this lovely tradition Welsh pub in the heart of the village was welcoming, with a great atmosphere in the beer garden. There was also a pizza van outside (the pub doesn’t do food) serving tasty pizzas for a reasonable price. The warm summer evening no doubt helped our spirits but we liked it here. Diolch!

This has so much potential, the outdoor area has been really well developed, there is clearly a mix of tourists and locals. Ok choice of beers and it was a nice place to sit, in or out. Sadly its is currently on limited opening closing at 9pm on Sundays and closed Monday & Tuesday (lack of staff). There was a pizza van there on Friday evening parked outside, lovely pizza sat in the garden with a pint.
There was live entertainment from a Welsh folk band on Saturday. We had no issue in not speaking Welsh, but this is an area where the first language is Welsh, so many will speak in their first language.

We visited the village pub whilst on holiday in Llanystumdwy and we had a warm welcome. The young man working on his own was very busy but very friendly and abiding to all Covid restrictions. This is a very nice, traditional pub with plenty of outside seating as well as indoors.

What a great pub !! Stepped into a slice of authentic Wales. The traditional vibes are genuine, and while Welsh is prominent, English speakers won't feel out of place. After our week-long stay in a nearby cottage, the friendly locals and staff had us feeling like we'd been there for years. A must-visit. Looking forward to our next trip !

Maybe it's more pleasant during the week, but do not go on a Friday or Saturday evening.
It used to a pub with a polite clientele, now it seems to be frequented with yobs and louts. Shouting and swearing all night is not the kind of thing that is suitable for a small, quiet village - especially not from a community pub!
Sadly, I have to recommend avoiding this pub until they get customers who behave decently.
This is a real shame because it was great for the area that the pub was saved by the community.

Just called in on the off chance after walking down the Afon Dwyfor. Managed to be the first people in (it was exactly 12.00 noon) Really friendly bar staff, only her second day their apparently. Enjoyed a really nice pint of Clogwyn Gold from the Conwy Brewery. Didn’t realise the community owned the pub, will definitely return

Was ever so slightly dubious about visiting this place after reading some negative reviews (anti English speaking comments mostly), couldn't be further from the truth, spent an afternoon there, and found other guests to be more than welcoming, really admired the owners for resurrecting this pub (and shop and airbnb), especially impressed with Meinwen who was chatty, witty, welcoming and informative, will certainly visit again.

Visited this nice looking pub but our experience of it was sadly appalling, Bar lady Andrea i believe her name was treated us like criminals, firstly on serving us the beers clearly needed topping up and asking her to do so was treated with a tut which was a great welcome, she was clearly unable to pour the real ale appropriately and looked very un natural, the barrell ran out after our initial 3 lovely pints but she then served us 2 cloudy pints on the 2nd round which were clearly contaminated with sediment, Andrea knew better though telling us they were fine... on telling her they werent she huffed puffed and moaned and reluctantly poured us 2 fresh crisp pints which kept us happy but my word she does not like you if you arent a local... id probably give this place a miss unless you are blind and/or deaf

Came here for drinks with my partner. There was a comedy night on, and it was grotesque for the few minutes of it we heard. Full of sexually explicit humour. Explicit to the point of being deeply uncomfortable, and I'm far, far from a prude. I really don't need to hear a man recite the intimate details of some encounter like this, especially a week after Russell Brand. Especially as a woman, and even more as a gay woman, it felt awful.
Drinks were fine. Staff were friendly. Nice pub inside. The experience of the entertainment really soured me on this place, and I would have to recommend against anyone coming here if the people running it think that this kind of event was appropriate.
Big potential, ruined.
Management should have had at least some idea of the content of the acts.

Very unfriendly welcome. Won’t be recommending this pub not sure if they like the English or prefer Welsh only customers.

Came here the other week, 28 may, with a friend. Perfectly fine service from staff. Unfortunately the shouting, swearing, and aggrssive language being used by a large group (roughly a dozen of them, around the outdoor stage ( of the clientele made my friend feel uncomfortable. She felt very intimidated by this group of aggressive men and asked to leave. Might also have helped if the pub wasn't pumping out music with profane lyrics.
NB: these were seemingly locals not visitors, have seen them around regularly during my visits (I live in Criccieth and usually come to the pub each fortnight)

I'll do the tripadvisor thing few people, and try to be balanced
Good:
1. The outside seating area is fairly spacious
2. Staff are friendly
3. Pub is community run and to be fair does contribute to the community
4. Sometimes has local ales
OK:
1. Selection of drinks is pretty average, aside from aforementioned local ales.
2. Prices are pretty much standard
Bad:
1. The pub has lost some its distinctive character under the new management, and it feels lacking in identity. The juxtaposition of modern elements with traditional can work, but here it hasn't really been well thought through. We really don't need another pub showing sports. They've done a good job drawing customers with the outside area and events.
2. A small but significant element of the clientele can be a bit less than friendly at times. Sometimes they feel almost aggressive about their Welsh identity (I'm a proud Welshman and Welsh nationalist, and I'm ashamed of my compatriots when they think being Welsh justifies yobbishness, loutishness, or general unpleasantness towards visitors). In addition, a lot more shouting and swearing than previous visits.
I'd probably tell people that all in all its...passable?
If you go on a quiet sunny afternoon you'll probably have a nice time sitting outside with a pint for an hour.
I'd not recommend it for an evening out, but that's just me.
To the management: great work on the outdoor area and the community work, but consider what you might do about some of the clientele and the character (especially inside). You've got a potentially great pub here...
